fter years of rumours and false starts (apparently a script was written for Ghostbusters 3 by the original cast), the paranormal investigators are back, in what's heralded as a reboot rather than a sequel. Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) are a pair of unheralded authors who write a book that claims that ghosts are, in fact, real. A few years later, Gilbert lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia University, but her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia.
engineer, Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and a subway worker, Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), to save the world from a mysterious evil and powerful demon known as Rowan (Neil Casey) who can exercise control over human forms. Paul Feig, who's directed Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig in films like Bridesmaids, The Heat and Spy, has assembled a great cast and written a sharp script, so after 30 years, they're still the only ones you'll want to call.
TRAILER TRAWL The best bits of the film’s trailer… 1 Much like the original, the group create a techno lab full of incredible equipment for busting ghosts… 2 …like the infamous proton pack – which is a portable particle accelerator. 3 Chris Hemsworth turns up to play their new receptionist. 4 And, of course, it wouldn’t be Ghostbusters without Slimer!

he tagline for this sequel to 1996’s gloriously over-the-top Independence Day is: ‘We always knew they were coming back’. And that really tells you all you need to know. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defence program to protect the planet, but nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force, because while we’ve had 20 years to build up our resources, so have they, and the second attack is infinitely larger than the first one. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction once again.
FILM FACTS The budget for this sequel was a whopping $200,000,000 – which was $125,000,000 more than the first film! Will Smith was originally scripted to appear, but apparently his fee of $50 million for two films was a little rich.

ou have to feel a little sorry for poor Max (Louis C.K.), a terrier who lives in an apartment building in Manhattan. Every day his owner, Katie (Ellie Kemper) leaves him in the flat while she’s at work. And then, to make matters even worse, she goes and gets a giant mongrel named Duke (Eric Stonestreet) into the apartment to live with them. Max and Duke fight from the start, but they have to put their quarrels behind when a seemingly adorable white rabbit named Snowball (Kevin Hart) and his army of abandoned animals (lovingly called the ‘Flushed Pets’) launch a criminal conspiracy to exact retaliation on all happily owned pets and their owners – clearly this is one rabbit with some very serious issues. Fans of the Minions might also want to check out The Secret Life of Pets, as there’s a new Minions short film called Mower Minions that will be played exclusively before it.
FILM FACTS Albert Brooks, who voices Tiberius in The Secret Life of Pets, is probably better known as the voice of Marlin, Nemo’s dad in Finding Nemo. July 2016

one of the guests of honour gets ‘accidentally’ pushed over the edge, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever more! There are so many reasons to get excited about the first (and hopefully not the last) Absolutely Fabulous movie. Aside from the hilarious script and stunning locations, it’s also got one of the most cameo-laden cast lists we’ve ever seen. Unmissable, darling.
FILM FACTS Jennifer Saunders put up a post on her website saying that the film will include at least “3 major cameos”. One of which is going to “blow your mind”. The film was made as a final act for the characters, but we think they’ll definitely return.

meeting is even more fascinating, and has now been made into a film starring Michael Shannon as the King and Kevin Spacey as Tricky Dicky. After writing a letter to the President, Elvis turned up at the gate to the White House requesting a meeting with Nixon. Thinking that it would help his popularity with younger voters, Nixon agreed. What Nixon wasn’t expecting though was that Presley wanted to use the meeting to be sworn in as an undercover agent in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs! It sounds utterly bonkers, but it’s all 100 percent true.
FILM FACTS Other actors that have played Nixon include Anthony Hopkins (Nixon), John Cusack (The Butler) and Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon). Elvis has been previously played by Kurt Russell (Elvis), Harvey Keitel (Finding Graceland) and Jack White (Walk Hard).

EVENT CINEMA Here’s a breakdown of all of the brilliant special cinema events coming to the Wells Film Centre in the following months.
ROMEO & JULIET
RICHARD III
STARRING Lily James, Richard Madden CERT TBA RELEASE 7th Jul (7pm) LENGTH 180 minutes
STARRING Ralph Fiennes, Vanessa Redgrave CERT 15 RELEASE 21st Jul (7pm) LENGTH 210 minutes
Kenneth Branagh reunites Richard Madden and Lily James, the two young stars of his blockbuster hit Cinderella, to play Romeo & Juliet, the star-crossed lovers of Shakespeare’s classic romantic tragedy. Falling madly in love with each other, Romeo and Juliet’s amorous affair is swiftly derailed by their families, the Montagues and the Capulets. A long-standing feud between them threatens to tear the lovers apart, and will have devastating consequences for both families. Kenneth Branagh directs a new vision of Shakespeare’s heartbreaking tragedy, a passionate, vibrant version of Romeo & Juliet that also stars Derek Jacobi as Mercutio.
The Almeida Theatre makes its live screening debut with an explosive new adaptation of Richard III, directed by Almeida Artistic Director Rupert Goold, with Ralph Fiennes as Shakespeare’s most notorious villain and Vanessa Redgrave as Queen Margaret. War-torn England is reeling after years of bitter conflict. King Edward is ailing, and as political unrest begins to stir once more, Edward’s brother Richard – vicious in war, despised in peacetime – awaits the opportunity to seize his brother’s crown. Through the malevolent Richard, Shakespeare examines the all-consuming nature of the desire for power amid a society riddled by conflict.

t’s been a number of years since the last Deus Ex game (five to be exact, as it was in 2011 that Square-Enix released Deus Ex: Human Revolution), and fans of the series will be delighted to hear that it’s very much business as usual. Adam Jensen returns as the main protagonist of the game, which is set two years after Human Evolution. Adam has learnt a few new tricks since last we saw him though, including a new range of technological advancements and body augmentations, so it’s clear that the last two years haven’t been wasted. Deus Ex has always impressed with its cutting-edge cyberpunk visuals, and Mankind Divided looks absolutely stunning on the current consoles and PC. The new features, improved graphics and honed gameplay combine to make this one of the best games you’ll see released this summer.

JAWS
RELEASED: 1975 DIRECTOR: Steven Spielberg STARRING: Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gary, Murray Hamilton Setting the scene… A giant great white shark is terrorising the New England resort town of Amity Island. The police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) sets off with marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) to kill the shark. Brody gets his first look at the shark while throwing some bait into the water – spawning the classic line: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”.
CLASSIC MOVIE MOMENTS
Did you know? Roy Scheider apparently improvised the infamous line on the spot. 30 years later, Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner, went into a restaurant and noticed that they had an item on the menu called the '’Alex Kintner Sandwich'. She commented that she played his mother in the film and was greeted by Jeffrey Voorhees, who played her son and was the owner of the restaurant.
