summary
HERTSMERE COMMUNITY SPACES PROJECT
About the Hertsmere Community spaces project. The project began back in Summer 2007 when Hertsmere Borough Council consulted local young people across Hertsmere about their needs. Young people said that they really wanted places to meet and ‘hang out’ in the borough and the council identified three areas where there was a particular need for this. The young people were also given the opportunity to sketch their ideas for the kind of space or ‘shelter’ they would like to see. In Autumn 2008 the council was granted just over £50,000 for the community spaces project, along with additional money for other ‘play’ initiatives through an application to the Big Lottery Play Programme. In May 2009 Superblue Design Ltd were approached to be the design team for the Hertsmere community spaces project. 1. Consultation process
2. Funding Process
This documents contains the design concepts develop for Phillimore Recreation ground, Radlett. The concepts have been created by gathering further local knowledge at the engagement event days. Via this approach the design of the shelters are able to be developed in a well considered approach that takes into regard the site, content, context and community.

The shelter will positioned close to the existing park facilities and area of existing high foot traffic. Many people already gather and use the existing bench on this site and the shelter would add to these facilities. W O The space is close to the carpark and away from S HOLL L GIL houses on the periphery of the recreation ground.

6 units: mm not to scale
The screen will be made from a 6mm expanded aluminium sheet with a titanium/gold anodized finish. Approximate for each panel is 7kg each. Allowing for an individual to be able to lift, remove and position the panels independently. The use of 6mm aluminium will provide a robust surface, which is weather resistant and will not rust. The anodizing finish will provide a strong visual character which will also be maintenance free. This is a standard source solution for the screens which means that any future replacement can be easily and cheaply sourced.
