W
elcome to the very first issue of The Superette Magazine. A biannual keepsake showcasing our designers each season and encompassing all things we love – a collection of inspirations and aspirations that fuel our day to day passions. We wanted to share with you, our friends and fans, a collaboration of all things Superette. A look beyond the pages of a lookbook and more than just clothes hanging on a rack, The Superette Magazine is designed to be a seasonal and continual source of inspiration. It seemed fitting that we debut our first issue in the summer season. Just like these first days of summer where new adventures begin, and everything starts to come alive…the first issue of our magazine sings a little to the same tune. When we first embarked on the idea for this project, almost six months ago, we had a big idea and 40 empty pages. Interviews were made, articles were written, and then re-written, and the Superette workroom was soon bursting with summer samples. Six months and now 44 pages later, and here you have it. Our very own magazine. Take a road trip with us and find a beautiful place to get lost with our very first summer fashion editorial. Fall in love with the inspirations behind some of this seasons hottest collections as we go behind the scenes in the design room with the likes of Sass & Bide, Bassike and Friend of Mine. Get up close and personal with Deadly Ponies, talk art with Kelly Thompson and mix cocktails with Stolen Rum…This issue is a collection of people, places and pictures that are special to us and we hope within these pages, you find something special of your own. So let the sun shine in… fall in love, get inspired and celebrate summer with Superette. Collect it, keep it, and refer to it all summer long Until next time… Lots of love, The Superette team. xx

My Superette girl likes to sit in her window on a winters day and let the sun warm her back. She is a girly girl, but can hold her own around the boys and manages to intelligently chat no matter what the subject. She has a folder on her desktop with her next season purchases in mind. She will get a boob out for a laugh with the girls, but never for a charmless man . My Superette girl is always on time, in step and on form. Snap happy. What was once old…is now new again. Polaroid instant photography is back! Polaroid is one of these brands- like Coca-Cola that will forever have that cool factor- one destined to keep it around for a long time. So fans of the iconic instant film who were devastated when the brand announced it was ceasing all production of cameras and film in 2008 can now rejoice. The famous instant film camera is back. Featuring classic Polaroid instant film, automatic flash and four scene settings, the new Polaroid 300 Instant Camera delivers a new twist on the classic instant photo. We’ve always loved the magic of Polaroid. With its immediacy and that inimitable saturated vintage ‘polaroid’ colour, Polaroid is an important part of photographic tradition and was a central part of the work of some of the creative greats of the past such as Andy Warhol and Ansel Adams. While we love our digital cameras and iPhone snaps, this summer, we’re getting analog on it! Polaroid cameras will be available at Superette from October.
Kelly Thompson for Superette. A wee Christmas treat for you all! Mid December will see one of our favourite artists, Kelly Thompson exhibiting an exclusive show in our very own Ponsonby store! The exhibition will include a range of exclusive pieces, including postcard packs and prints of our very own Superette girl by Kelly Thompson (see page 5). The artwork will be available to buy at a range of prices and sizes so everyone can bag a treat!

Burn, baby, burn. Summer is heating up with Bec and Bridge! We are super excited for this hot Aussie label to arrive for the first time at Superette this season. Their high summer collection ‘No Smoke without Fire’, inspired by the tones and raw beauty of an eerie desert landscape is a fresh and soft take on utility chic. Neutral based colours are punctuated by this season’s hue-de jour of pastels. Bec & Bridge know how to create that effortlessness, off-duty model look, with their relaxed shapes, and style contoured lines and has garnered itself quite the cult following of celebs including Rose Bryne and Miranda Kerr. Bec and Bridge will be in stores an online at Superette from October.

Rum Runners. From Hemingway to Hunter S. Thompson, to pirates and presidents, rum - one of the world’s oldest spirits - has a rich history deeply embedded in folklore, scandals and romance. It was this captivating and fascinating history behind rum, that first inspired Jamie Duff and Roger Holmes to set about to bring the romantic history of rum to a new generation of lovers.
I
t was back in 2006, when the boys first visited the Caribbean for a friends wedding that Jamie explained how the pair became first transfixed with the ‘rich, dark, and romantic’ history that surrounds one of the worlds finest spirits. The rest you could say, became a history of their own, re-written, and with a modern day twist by two opportunistic kiwis armed with a passion and a quit-your-day-job kind
of attitude. “Rum was everywhere up there, you couldn’t miss it. It’s like Fonterra over there- they just spit rum out, something like millions of litres a year.” The pair already had a taste for good rum, having worked, and spent a lot of time in bars during their time living in London and during what Jamie attributes as a ‘modern resurgence of rum’. “We used to go to these awesome tiki bars and really started to get into our rums. We realized rum was pretty cool and not at all like the rum culture we knew back in New Zealand.” Roger also had a bit of family history dating back to the late 1800’s, having heard tales of his great-great grandfather, a master mariner who used to hunt whale sharks around the Caribbean. “Everything was just pointing to this rum thing, rum seemed to be cropping up in every novel that I was reading at the time, from classic literature to more modern day stuffit was just fascinating.” And so the story goes, while there, they found their way a little off the beaten track (courtesy of a little help from a phone number Jamie found on the credits of a YouTube video,) and in the warehouse of an old rum blender somewhere outside of Kingston, Jamaica. It was here, under the guard of
a slightly dangerous looking master blender that Jamie and Roger tasted the most ‘absolutely mind-blowing” rums. And if that sounds to you rather like a fairytale beginning. It was. So much so that after wanting to take some of this amazing rum back home with them, they went looking for the blender the next day. Roger and Jamie couldn’t for the life of them figure out where they’d found him. “ I don’t know what happened, we could just never track him down again.” In 2008, with the Kingston rum still in the back of their minds, the pair decided to ditch their day jobs in London, a rather gutsy move mid recession considering Jamie was a Lawyer and Roger and architect, and returned home to a New Zealand, in favour of making a rum history of their own. “If you look at Vodka,” explains Jamie, “you can buy traditional vodka, Russian branded stuff, or you can buy 42 Below, or Absolut- the guys who are talking to a contemporary audience.” Jamie and Roger saw the gap in the market for a rum that talked to a modern audience. If vodka could do it, then why not rum?
Jamie and Roger saw the gap in the market for a rum that talked to a modern audience. If vodka could do it, then why not rum?
“A lot of the rum brand was built on a history of hipsters and pirates, which is cool, but the branding was talking to older guys- like my dad.” While the fear of putting themselves up against one of the oldest spirits in history certainly was there, the pair, like any good kiwi entrepreneur, had the essential can-do at-
SUPER profile
titude and saw their brand vision as more of a challenger brand. “It was kind of like Pepsi vs. Coke,” said Jamie. “Coke has heritage and Pepsi has the new generation. 42 Below was a little like this to a degree as well - we didn’t have history or pedigree of making vodka in this country either but we did it anyway.” Still at the mercy of the mainstream rum brands of the last century, Jamie and Roger’s rum making dreams started in a one-bedroom shoebox apartment in Auckland. Armed with a still, and a recipe off the Internet, the boys started mucking around with making their very own rum. “ We made some pretty disgusting rums…we were messing around with New Zealand chardonnay and Sauvignon barrels thinking we could make this NZ style rum but it was just too hard- we couldn’t make it well”. With no cane sugar industry here in New Zealand, the boys realized that the proper ingredients and skills required to make the great rum they wanted just weren’t available in NZ. hile all their experimentation may not have produced the desired result, the researching and the numerous unsuccessful outcomes gave Jamie and Roger the chance to define exactly what they wanted out of their rum. “ We realized the New Zealand market didn’t want heavy spirits. They wanted something light…the attitude towards rum here was very reminiscent of Jamaican rum’s such as Coruba, which tend to be quite heavy. We wanted to get away from this and showcase the light, party, cocktail side of the drink.” Inspired by the mysterious Kingston blend, Jamie and Rodger set their sights upon bringing the old world history of one of the worlds greatest spirits to a new contemporary audience, and hope to spark a new generation of rum drinking in new Zealand- one that sat apart from the West Auckland ‘rum and coke’ drinking parties that the drink had long
W
been associated with in the New Zealand culture. “By this point we had became quite serious,” said Jamie. “We were on the dole, looking for work as it came up, but we had savings- so we thought, lets just exhaust the savings and go.” And so back to the Caribbean it was. The boys returned to where the love affair began with guns blazing- in pursuit of a distillery that could come close to making them a rum like the one they had first tasted in that elusive Kingston warehouse. “It’s like when you learn a language, you go to that country. Rum is total currency in these places, so you go to the home of the best stuff. We just went there to learn.” Once they arrived, the pair set about door knocking. They met with blenders and distilleries and after a lot of work, Jamie and Roger finally enlisted the help of a Caribbean master blender who helped them create a taste that they were satisfied with, one that was as close as they could remember to the rum they tasted at the beginning of their rum adventure. Production was started, and the outcome was a rum they branded ‘Stolen’. - A reference to both the villainous history of rum, and to the taste that they had appropriated from their memories of that elusive Kingston rum blended. Jamie explains that the branding name Stolen just felt real

to them, especially when talking to a contemporary audience who weren’t interested in the ‘fluffy’ marketing and advertising promises of the nineties. “Consumers are lot more cynical these days. They can seethrough things. We thought to ourselves, what is honest? Well, we are going over there, and we are appropriating this rum.” “ We were just taking the best shit we can get our hands on. I think people get caught up in New Zealand made, which is fantastic- if you can do it, but I think a lot of the time people push things to be NZ made when it’s not possible.” Although today’s contemporary rum drinkers require perhaps a more premium drink than these of the pirates, Jamie and Rogers delivery method remains essentially the same.
www.superette.co.nz
The boys have become rumrunners in their own right. A little Kiwi DIY entrepreneurial spirit combined with the opportunistic nature of the rumrunners of the 1920’s and there you have it. Our very own Kiwi ‘rum runners’ supplying Caribbean ‘stolen rum to people who Jamie explains are these, living just a ‘little outside of the law.’ Jamie philosophizes that rather than targeting a particular audience, the Stolen Rum way is more attitude of life, one that seeks to ‘occupy a place in peoples hearts’. “We call it a Premium lawlessness- keeping it premium, but living on the edge. It’s lawyers, accountants, builders, people from out west, to people from Remuera. Whether it’s stealing a kiss, doing well in your career, extreme skiing or bungee jumping…its people pushing the envelope in their own little ways”

sass & bide - the strong, the obscure and the beautiful. Long one of our most loved fashion brands, sass & bide has been a part of the Superette family since almost the beginning. First introduced to our brand offering in 2003 (two years after Superette was born) we have watched the brand go from strength to strength each season, now becoming one of the most recognized and iconic labels worldwide. The sass & bide girl has the world at her feet- pushing boundaries, breaking rules and following her heart - such to the tune that Sarah-Jane and Heidi did back in 1999 when they first started the brand with their now infamous ‘east village’ jean. With their distinct designs, and the sense of free spirited confidence that surrounds the brands aesthetic, we wanted to delve further inside the ‘sass & bide’ way of life; and give you a glimpse at the personal inspirations of Sarah-Jane Clarke (sass) and Heidi Middleton (bide). So we asked the Sass & Bide design team to give us a closer look inside FANTASTIC PROJECTS, and share with us some of the inspirations that fuel the design processes for the season. Enjoy xx
THE INSPIRATION… At the start of each season, Heidi and Sarah-Jane present their team with a creative brief outlining the initial ideas and inspirations in a wall collage. There is a crescendo of ideas, energy, love, intuition that finds its home in FANTASTIC PROJECTS this season. Slouched silhouettes in a muted palette of burnt orange, vintage salmon and washed-out neutrals create a sense of utilitarian luxury using beautiful silk crepes, textured linens and soft knitwear adorned with glass, moonstone and perspex that culminates in the inimitable sass & bide aesthetic.
The heart and soul of the sass & bide aesthetic is defined by freedom and personal expression- a way of being, rather than a label that is defined by age, race or culture.
Popping with colour and screaming summer, FANTASTIC PROJECTS! Takes a step away from the monochrome look of the current ‘Tomorrow the Great’ collection and explores the identity of art, nature, romance & science and the binding relationships they have with one another & with our inner beliefs.
The offbeat and the beautiful collide with draped asymmetrical shapes, embellished with perspex and plastic panelling, wax prints and pops of blazing colour.
THE FANTASTIC PROJECTS COLLECTION…
SUPER inspire
The sass & bide product offering is made up of three distinct tiers- ready to wear, s&b vie and sass & bide denim. The s&b vie designs are young, edgy, bold and contradictory with an emphasis on playful dresses, tops and skirts.
The sass & bide girl has an open mind, heart and spirit and an appreciation for the beauty in life that surrounds her. She walks to the beat of her own drum.
STAFF STYLE... 5 minutes with our sass & bide sales manager from their Sydney head office, Libby Cooper.
SASS AND BIDE DENIM…

ot just any editorial shoot – it was a road trip extravaganza, Superette style! Never ones to do anything half-pie, we set off on a road trip south to beautiful Front Beach in the Coromandel. We enlisted the help of some very talented friends, and off we went in search of a ‘beautiful place to get lost’. Summer may have been on our minds, but not on mother natures that day… However thanks to our amazing team, armed with an attitude that was not going to let the rain get the better of us, we found ourselves amongst little Coromandel paradise (that we didn’t want to leave!) Here is a wee behind the scenes look at our very first Superette Magazine shoot. Enjoy xx

Say hello to a Friend of Mine... – an Australian label designed by Teale Talbot and managed by Letitia McLean. Confident, sexy and just a little bit tough; Friend of Mine blends feminine edge with a relaxed look that every girl can make her own.
Starting a label was an individual goal of both Teale and Letitia after working together at Australian sales agency NAUSZ, they felt that there was a gap in the market for a range of simple, versatile and effortless clothes.

SUPER inspire We picked the brain of Friend of Mine designer Teale Talbot for a look into the inspirations behind ‘The Me Decade’ collection…one that reads a bit like Pop-Culture-101, from music legends to Seventies fashion icons and childhood memories.
Bob Dylan’s “He was a friend of Mine.” “I love the effortlessness that transcends in his voice, I would hope that that reflects in the style of clothing we do. ‘Friend of Mine’ – It’s also in a lot of pop culture song titles and just a phrase used in every day language.” – TEALE TALBOT
Woody Allen’s film Annie Hall (1977) explores the concepts referenced in Wolfe’s infamous essay. “The Me Decade” is based on a paper written by Tom Wolfe published in New York Magazine in 1976. It became a term the coined the seventies and described a shift in American’s pre occupations post Vietnam War away from broad social views to more inwardly focused bettering ones self.
“The Me Decade reflects the 70’s as a whole, with leisure suits, mens style power dressing, mood ring inspired accessories and Venice beach denim shorts.” – TEALE TALBOT

A Sneak Peek... David Bowie is referenced in Friend of Mine’s upcoming second summer installment ‘A Lad Insane’ (from November).
Friend of Mine enlisted the help Alexandra Spencer of the 4th and Bleeker blog fame for modeling and styling duties. “Alex is bloody sexy and cool, has a great natural and desirable sense of style and best of all she doesn’t take herself seriously. She is just fun and at ease with herself.” – TEALE TALBOT www.superette.co.nz
Loose oversized luxe shirts from ‘A Lad Insane’ collection continue the strong 70’s inspired aesthetic that feature in the summer collection.

It’s in the jeans.
Not a day goes by at Superette where one of our employees is not rocking around the workplace in a pair of Nudie Jeans. Skinny, boyfriend, light or dark, since the label first hit the Superette shores last year, we were instantly converted to the ‘Nudie Jeans’ way
of life. The Swedish born denim company was founded in 1999 and specialize in raw and pre-washed denim jeans (however the collection has also grown to include many other items of casual clothing and accessories). As a brand, Nudie is extremely unique with the philosophies that surround their products. So while you know the name, and like us, you most probably wear the jeans, we wanted to give you the full story that lies among these perfectly fitting, blue jeans baby. A bit of a Nudie jeans 1-0-1 if you will…
More than just a piece of clothing… Nudie jeans design goes beyond creating just a product that serves to fulfil a need or a function. The philosophy of Nudie jeans is to become part of your dreams – the idea that the jeans have a natural built-in dream and attitude. Referred to as the ”naked truth about denim”. The magic of Nudie jeans denim is their ability to age beautifully – formed by its wearer into a second skin, naked and personal. The longer it lives the more character it gets. The indigo is described by the brand as a living colour that fades and gives the denim its character. The more you wear your jeans the better they get…
Based in Goteborg, the Nudie jeans headquarters is situated on the Swedish west coast. Being an old seaport and industrial hub of the region the city is closely linked to the heritage of denim and worker’s tradition. Such heritage - one that is firmly rooted in Goetborg - can be seen reflected in all the Nudie Jeans campaign images. Their photo shoots take place in and Goteborg and feature their friends rather than professional models. “We love jeans, a passion we share with everyone who mourns a pair of worn out jeans as a close friend. Jeans share the same soul and attitude as music. The inspiration springs from the same dreams” – Nudie jeans.

Your Nudie jeans...
SUPER denim
Dry denim is the raw, untreated and unwashed fabric. Breaking in a pair of dry jeans is a challenge. There is no shortcuts, other than wear them a lot!
Wear your dry Nudie jeans for six months before washing.
Wait at least six months of daily use before you wash them…yes that’s right! Nudie promises that by following this guide, they promise a great outcome. Indigo is worn off in places where your jeans naturally distress from the way you wear them. And when you finally wash your well worn jeans? The indigo will fade. Contrasting effects will arise, giving you that perfect and desirable jean.
– Nudie jeans.
Washing 101... Turn your jeans inside out, and wash in between 40-60 degrees (higher temperature gives higher contrast). Stretch out the inseam when the jeans are still damp. Do not dry tumble- let them dry hanging.
Made with love…the Nudie Jeans philosophy sees the product as not only a pair of jeans, defined in terms of fits. It’s part of a way of thinking, a concept and a passion. They are carefully made in Italy, with the best denim quality, the best laundries and with extra value in detail. The jeans are made with love and passion for real denim lovers.
reflecting the feeling of everyday life. The history of jeans has always been closer to rock than fashion… a mentality that Nudie jeans have used throughout both their denim design and the conception of each and every style.
Unlike many other big denim giants, Nudie Jeans does not claim “original” American history. Instead they have seen the denim challenge as a way to reflect the feeling of our everyday life and to emphasize the genuine feeling that jeans, together with the music culture, has left behind. The challenge is also to keep the denim concept tight within small frames. As a true jeans brand Nudie Jeans are not about the short-term trends. The inspiration is far from glamour and catwalks. The collection is tight, like a rock band,

SUPER art
Kelly Thompson. When we first saw one of Kelly Thompson’s prints it was love at first sight. It was a print of ‘Tuesday’, to be precise, and she belonged to a friend of ours. Her whimsical, and let’s be honest, rather sexy illustrations are impressive to say the least. We got in touch with Kelly, first off, to make one of her prints our own. After becoming a tad obsessed with her work, we decided to share a little more on the very talented Kelly Thompson with you.
O
riginally a trained photographer, the New Zealand born, Wellington-based Kelly completed a Bachelor of Design at Massey University in 2004. Although most renowned for her illustration, Kelly also dabbles in fashion photography, which has come to sit hand in hand with her illustration work. Kelly’s captured subjects often become more like her muses, driving the inspiration for each drawing as she goes. “I guess if I put it down to one thing inspiring me most it would definitely be my model...When I get a good model, it’s like heroin, I wanna do more, more, more!” And we can’t argue with that. Kelly’s coquettish fashion girls, often in rather provocative poses, draw the viewer in like a drug with their irresistible come-hither gazes. Her work is a combination of coloured pencil sketches and Photoshop retouching, and when you first set sight on one of Kelly’s illustrations, you can’t help but be captivated by their striking eyes. Kelly’s talent for drawing breathes an inexplicable life into each piece, reading like a visual narrative to that old
cliché — ‘the eyes are the windows to the soul’. We were lucky enough to grab a quick interview with the talented Kelly Thompson to talk a little more about bookworms, business, and of course, those ‘bright eyes’.
As well as illustrating, you are also a fashion photographer. Which came first? Professionally, photography came first. My degree had a photography major so I naturally progressed into photographic work once I graduated. I didn’t start working as an illustrator until about 2007 (I graduated in 2004). I guess if I ask myself what came first as a passion, illustration would definitely win. I drew all the time throughout high school and in the weekends, I had all sorts of crazy drawing games I would play as a kid. Illustration is my number one deep down in my gut. What artists inspire you? I don’t really have many artists that inspire me stylistically, but I have artists who motivate me to be better and push myself. Seeing awesome work I do get motivated, envious and have “I wish I did that” moments, but most of all it just makes me want to work harder. What kind of girls do you draw? Apart from being beauties they are all confident, fun, playful girls. I usually draw girls that I have photographed and when I go through the photos I become so fascinated by how beautiful they are and have such great memories of our shoot day that I just have to sit down and draw them. Although in the past I have drawn models I haven’t met, I now prefer to spend time with them and get a feel for their personality. One thing that stands out as a constant throughout your drawings is the striking eyes and gaze of all your subjects. I always start with the eyes, and if I can’t capture the eyes then the drawing is scrapped. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but if you get the nose or the lips a little off it can still look good, but if you can’t get someone’s eyes right then the picture lacks spark and doesn’t feel like them. I always look at people’s eyes, they are so interesting and the first thing I notice. You recently had an exhibition called ‘Bookworms Never Go To Bed alone’ in Melbourne. Where did the name come from? I had heaps of trouble with the name. Ask any poor stylist who has worked with me on photo shoots and they’ll tell you I suck at names. I had a big list and put in about a month of brain www.superette.co.nz
time trying to figure out something cute and smart. One day I saw a girl with it on a teeshirt, it was such good timing! After the show, a guy did an article and titled it “Guys DO Make Passes At Girls Who Wear Glasses”, that was pretty good too. Collaborations get me very excited, it’s so great to mess around with some ideas especially when you are dealing with creatives, and it really is rewarding to see my work in other mediums such as fashion. It is definitely something I want to do much more of, and I think my next step will really be pushing into textile print and possibly motion graphics. Let’s be honest,
if any big brand asks I’m going to say yes! We heard a rumour that you might be doing a wee exhibition at Superette very soon… I am super excited and inspired, although I’m still in the planning stage. I can’t wait to get into it after being all around the place with no time to draw! The creative geek in me is gagging to get back to work! I do know that there will be a new range of postcard packs and I am going to have variations on prices and sizes so anyone in the audience will be able to bag a treat, from the young student to the special one-off collector. What are your favourite labels at Superette? Beau Coops, Lover and Therese Rawsthorne. And lastly, where are you heading for the summer? Probably somewhere cheap as I’ve just been travelling for three months! I’ll have my pre-packed lunch on a beach somewhere, wearing last years togs – loving it.

Fashion Week diary 2010. We wanted to see exactly what went on in the lead up to NZ fashion week and were lucky enough to get an exclusive look alongside one of our favourite homegrown NZ labels, Salasai’s journey to the big show. Now in her 4th year of showing at New Zealand Fashion Week, Superette followed designer Kirsha Whitcher along the way, from location scouting, to model casting and lookbook shoots - what goes on behind the scenes is certainly no mean feat! So do enjoy, as we take a look inside ‘Sacraficial Grace’ and Salasai’s journey in the lead up to their fashion week show, which debuted on September 23rd at 7pm.
Salasai fall/winter 2011 - ‘Sacrificial Grace’ - is inspired by the stark beauty of cults and sects. The collection draws from themes of restraint, modesty and naivity, using an almost angelic colour palette of muted creams and white as the base, helping define austerity and uniformality in the range. The innocence in the collection is exemplified in modest pleated trousers and knee-length skirts, with eery digital prints of landscapes and symmetrical patch worked imagery onto silk garments.
Styling and lookbook shoot... During the lead up to the big show, Kirsha and her team must prepare looks that are set to grace the catwalk. We were lucky enough to spend the morning with Kirsha and her amazing team at the lookbook shoot for her upcoming ‘Sacrificial Grace’ collection that is being shown at NZ Fashion Week. The lookbook shoot was shot by the talented Russ Flat, with makeup and hair done by the talented MAC and Stephen Marr team.
We chose these 2 models as we felt they had something fresh and beautiful to bring to the camera with their symmetrical idyllic faces. We want to transform them into immaculate yet virtuous icons. - KIRSHA
Kirsha and the team have been hard at work for months preparing an amazing offsite show this year. The Hilton exhibition space in downtown Auckland is the perfect expansive, stark and clean space to provide a contrast to showcase Kirsha’s dark and austere collection. Not to mention the amazing view over the harbor! Models will strut down the center of the space, in amongst the giant concrete pillars. There is an element of uniformality to the interior with its glass, concrete and tile surfaces that is almost reflective of such themes that run through the Salasai fall/ winter 2010 collection.
Our range has been born from rules of modesty, religion, love and sacrifice. With a feeling of “darkened innocence” prevailing we wanted to create a “lamb to the slaughter” feel on these models - KIRSHA radiating a readiness to be enlightened and uplifted in an angelical sense. www.superette.co.nz

The new 450 horsepower V8 Audi RS 5 Coupé. Beneath the alluring exterior of the new RS 5 lies a power plant of sheer ferocity. With a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission, the 4.2 litre V8 will rocket you from a standing start to 100km/h in a mere 4.6 seconds. As impressive as this undoubtedly is, the manner in which this brutal power is transferred so directly to the road is even more remarkable. A clever new crown-gear centre differential dynamically distributes torque between the front and rear axles, delivering up to 70% to the front wheels and 85% to the rear. The result is truly unbelievable handling that takes quattro® to a whole new level. To experience this for yourself, simply contact your nearest Audi dealership for a test drive. www.audi.co.nz
