A
s Valentine's Day approaches, I am always looking for a romantic getaway. While my love language is gifts, my husband's is experiences – and I have possibly found the best hidden gem in New Zealand. As my husband and I drove through the serene landscapes of Port Waikato, little did we know that our stay at Te Karaka Lodge would be an experience that would linger in our hearts forever. The newly opened Te Karaka Lodge is a harmonious blend of luxury and natural beauty. It promised a romantic getaway and delivered far beyond our expectations. We were lucky enough to stay in the Master Suite, which boasted an organic, modern, luxurious décor. The room was a cocoon of comfort that we were more than happy to lose ourselves in. With stunning views of the rolling farmland, we enjoyed the view with a coffee from the comfort of our bed. The bathtub also gets an honourable mention, as it was my evening treat to digest all the delicious food! Dining at Te Karaka was a gastronomic adventure thanks to Chef Dominic Dsouza, a culinary wizard who prepared a decadent three-course meal. Each dish tantalised our taste buds, and I haven't enjoyed food since leaving the lodge. The team also surprised us with a birthday cake that Chef Dom
whipped up for my husband – a gesture that added a personal touch to our stay. The next day, we had a private farm tour with James, the Farm Manager. Seeing the ins and outs of the working beef and lamb farm was so much fun. Another highlight was the lodge's luxurious heated Swimming Spa. As I dipped my toes into the warm water, the variety of jets offered a soothing massage that melted away the stress of everyday life. Floating there, with the panoramic views enveloping us, it felt like we had entered a haven of relaxation. Even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits. The team are so friendly it felt like staying with friends. They arranged a romantic indoor picnic which they modestly called a 'light lunch'. It was anything but light. As soon as we saw it, lush pillows and blankets sprawled across a cute corner of the lodge. A lavish and beautiful spread, also featuring a delicious tea blend drink. It quickly became one of our most cherished memories together.
Our stay at Te Karaka Lodge was not just a holiday but a celebration of love, nature, and culinary delights. A true hidden gem that offers a unique experience – where every moment is crafted with care, every meal is a feast, and every view is a painting. Te Karaka Lodge is more than just a place to stay; it's where memories are made, making it a perfect retreat for anyone looking for a romantic escape in the heart of New Zealand.
