RATIONALE
We are devoted to the call of the wild, just like you.� One thing that I have learned as a student and a person is that something is never done and the opportunity for improvement exists always. Sometimes it can be very daunting and sometimes you find yourself in a rut, but in order to succeed or to fail one must try. I have felt this way about many of my projects, one project in particular was my soap branding project from Art 254. Of course I could have just sat on it for an entire year and then proceed to show you just that: a project that did not reflect my abilities and myself as a designer.

One key characteristic to building a brand is maintaining consistency. For that reason I used a more unique typeface. Secondly I had treated the text so that it was both playful and created more visual interest. The very name Ash and Fire pays homage to the origins of soap and how it was first made using ash from burnt plants and lye and fire. Fire symbolizes determination and warmth, and serves as a valuable resource much like our products are resources which helps fuel the adventure of our consumers by enhancing their experience of nature by keeping them healthy and happy. The overall type exists inside of a badge shape to call to pay create unity within the brand while also drawing from sports teams while creating

an emblem that is easily recognisable. The top of the badge portrays a mountain to call to the brands outdoor roots and the overall shape builds the shape of fire which is used to visually represent the name further than the type. Our colors draw from classic parks and recreation and the national park services and reflect the colors of nature like the dirt in the ground and sun in the sky. The illustrations I made are drawn from the things that are brought with you on a camping trip and are a more stylized icon version of the past design. I wanted these to be clean and modern to reflect to revamp of the brands aesthetic. I feel that the simplified icons are much more recognizable than the previous hand drawn illustrations. Made and packaged in Portland Oregon our one goal as a company is to endure the adventure with you. Our products are made to keep you healthy and happy along the way. From a soap that keeps you clean and feeling energized, an antiseptic spray to combat the injuries on your journey, and a bug repellent candle to keep away the uninvited guests from your campsite. We are devoted to the call of the wild just like you.
