Brief was to design a farmhouse for a merchant family of eight. Effort has been made to preserve the typical Indian courtyard typology that the client is used to, by incorporating a Zen garden in the midst of the structure. The multitude of levels in the structure provided privacy to the members of the joint family in the private zones while allowing for a central congregational space in the centre for collective activities. This integrated the traditional courtyard house vernacular to the Delhi into a more contemporary setting.

The site for the resort project was Ladera, Rajasthan, the epicentre of the famous Pushkar Mela. The scheme tries to imbibe the inclusive nature of the desert campfire while respecting the solitude and isolation of the site. The threshold is defined along two edges- one along the periphery where the desert stretches barren as far as the eye can see, while the other is enclosed by the pergola covered avenues which is akin to an oasis and becomes a place for congregation.

A massive 15 hectare plot had been assigned for redevelopment into a transit oriented housing society for about 20,000 residents. There was a historical monument close to the centre of the site and along with BRTS and MRTS nodes. The entire ground plane was converted to pedestrian-only access while facilitating recreational and commercial establishments. The use of the nearby metro and bus stations were incentivised by linking every block on site to them directly by means of underpasses, airwalks and the ground plane.

Design for an International Business Centre in a 15 hectare plot at Dwarka, Sector 24. Broad programmatic components for the same were an 500 key 5 star business hotel, 300 key service apartment block, a shopping mall with a 17 screen multiplex and what would be the largest proposed single ofďŹ ce building at the time spread over 5 hectares. A 4 hectare contiguous green was also part of the brief requirements.

Designing the campus for the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi in the new proposed site at Vasant Kunj. I chose to take this project up for my Bachelor’s thesis because of the insight I believe I could bring to the project as a student of the same college. Understanding how the legacy and culture of this prestigious institution could be retained even as we moved base to a new location, has been explored in depth.

DOT was envisioned as a smarter take on the conventional microwave oven. One of the main pain points with standard microwave ovens is their difďŹ culty of operation (advanced functions) which results in them only ever being used for reheating, even though the model may promise a whole lot more. Dot tries to break this barrier with a more approachable design. A minimal design aesthetic coupled with a beautifully intuitive interface makes this appliance a delight to operate. A single knob gives one complete control over every function of the device while an e-ink display provides the most relevant information at all times. One knob, two modes, limitless possibilities.

My Master’s thesis project was an exploration of techniques in cultivating and growing Orchids outside of their natural habitats in controlled environments. The project was conducted over 6 months which included preliminary research, site visits, case studies as well as the fabrication of the module besides germinating and growing multiple plant types in the same. The prototype uses a combination of ultrasonic foggers and a manifold with high pressure jets to maintain a mist in the root chamber, thereby allowing the Orchids to grow in a setting very similar to its natural habitat. Everything is automated and controlled by an Arduino Mega board interfaced with temperature, humidity and TDS sensors. This ‘aero-fog’ ponics model conserves 99% more water than any standard/conventional horticultural methods.

A non lethal and non explosive mine to aid threat detection and deterrence. The biologically sourced propellant in the device used capsaicin sourced from the famous ‘Ghost Peppers’, endemic to the North East of India, providing a clean and safe alternative to tear gas. The proposed design makes use of a compliant mechanism to trigger the device mechanically, while providing enough space within to accommodate ultrasonic, IR or other sensor types to aid remote detonation. The mine sits in a monocoque shell making it tamper proof while the bio-propellant reduces any chance of collateral damage or long term side effects as opposed to synthetic alternatives. Design submitted to the DRDO for the Dare to Dream contest. 1. Exploded view of device (Above) 2. Outer view of the mine (Right) 3. Section of the proposed module (Below)
