Second, your modem should have support for various networks. Aside from Wi-Fi, other widely used protocols are EVDO, ISDN, GPRS and Ethernet. Modem frequency bands include UHF, VHF 23 GHz, 5 Hz, 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz. Radio techniques should include frequency hopping and direct sequence spread spectrum. You should also check the number of channels it can receive and transmit. Another important feature is the maximum signal strength. It is also recommended that you get a modem with full duplex capability. A full duplex capability allows for simultaneous data retrieval and transmission. Other Information Some of these modems can also be hooked up to cable or DSL. Using wireless network adapter cards, the computers in an office or household can interact using the broadband
modem. This removes the need to install wires for all the computers, be it laptop or desktop. These wireless network cards can be an external adapter or PCMCIA. Make sure that the modem and the adapter are compatible with one another. Modem manufacturers usually make their own cards. It is best if you get the modem and adapter from the same brand.
