AANANDAACA KANDA

आनन्दाच कंद ॥ आनन्दाच कंद हरिला, दे वकीनंदन पाहहला Aanandaacha kanda harilaa, Devakee-nandana paahilaa

I saw Devaki’s child Hari, the source of bliss. भक्ता साठी ठे ऊन किकटी, भीमाननकटी िाहहला Bhaktaa saathee theuna karakatee, Bheemaa-nikatee raahilaa

He stands with his hands on his waist waiting for the devotees near the bank of the river Bheema. कंसाभयाने वसद ु े वाने, नन्दयशोदे वाहहला Kamsa-bhayaane Vasudevaane, Nanda-yashode vaahilaa

Out of fear of Kamsa, Vasudev carried the child to Nanda and Yashoda यज्ञ याग जप तपासस न भल ू े, ध्यान धािणे नाकले Yagnya yaaga japa tapaasi na bhoole, Dhyaana dhaarane naakale

He is not fooled by sacrifice, offering, counting of beads, austerity, concentration, nor even by meditation. ननश्चय साचा पिी तक ु या च, भक्क्त गूणासी मोहहला Nischaya saachaa pari Tukayaa cha, Bhakti gunaasee mohilaa

He is easily attracted by the true love and steady devotion of Tukaram.


TUMHARE KARANA

तुम्हािे कािन ॥ तम् ु हािे कािन सब सख ु छोड्या, अब मोहह क्यों तिसावो हो Tumhare kaarana saba sukha chodyaa, Aba mohi kyuoom tarasaavo ho

All earthly joys have I renounced for Thee pray, why then Thou torture me thus? I am desolate. बबिहा बबता लागी उि अन्ति, सो तुम आय बुझावो हो Biraha bithaa laagee ura antara, so tuma aaya bujhaavo ho

My heart aflame in separation prays, come Thou to quench my athirst soul. अब छोडत नहीं बड़ाई प्रभुजी , हं सकि तुित बुलावो हो , मीिा दासी जनम जनमकी,सा​ाँची दासी बनावो हो

Aba Chodata nahi badai prabhujee, Hamsakara turata bulaavo ho, Meeraa daasee janama janamakee, Saancee daasee banaavo ho

I shall not now ever leave The O Lord! Pray, beckon me with Thine bewitching smile; Mira, Thy eternal servant for life after life pray, let her serve Thee truly.

Meera danced, tying ankle-bells to her feet. लोग कहे मीिा भई बाविी सास कहे कुल नासी िे

जहि का प्याला िाणा जी, भेजा पीवत मीिा हांसी िे Log kahe meera ho gaee bavari Saasa kahe kula nasee re Jahara pyaalaa raanaane bhejaa

People said Mira had become mad; her mother-in-law said she was a curse on her family. The king sent her a cup of poison; Mira drank it and laughed. मै तो अपने नािायण की हो गई आपही दासी िे मीिा के प्रभु गगरिधि नागि वेग समला अववनासी िे Mai toh apane narayan kee ho gaee aapahi daasee re Meera ke Prabhu Giridhara naagara vega milaa avinaasee re

As for me, I have become a servant to my Narayana, Mira’s Lord, Giridhara, the beautiful one; may I be united with my eternal Lord soon.


MERE TO GIRIDHARA

मेिे तो गगरिधि ॥ मेिे तो गगरिधि गोपाल दस ु िो नो कोइ ।। Mere to Giridhar Gopal; dusaro na koi जा के मोि मुकुट मेिो पनत सोइ

शङ्ख चक्र गदा पद्म कण्ठमाला होई ।। Jaa ke sir mor mukut mero pati soi; shankha chakra gada padma kanthmala hoi तात मात भ्रात बंधू आपनो नो कोई

अब तो बात फैल गई जाने सब कोई ।। Taat maat bhraat bandhu aapano na koi; ab to baa phael gai jane saba koi सन्तन सङ्ग बैठ बैढ लोक लाज खोई छाड गयी कुल कक आन क्या किे गा कोई ।।

Santana sanga baith baith loka laja khoi; chanda gai kul ki aan kya karega koi असव ु न जल सींच सींच प्रेमबेल बोई,

मीिा प्रभु लगन लागी जो होय सो होई ।। Asuvan jal sinch sinch, prembel boi; Meera prabhu lagan laagi jo hoy so hoi


MEERA MAGAN

मीिा मगन ॥ मीिा मगन भइ हरिके गुना गाय Meeraa magan bha-e Harike guna gaay

Meera, entranced, sings her Lord’s Glory. सांप वपटािा िाणा भेज्या मीिा हाथ हदया जाय नहाया धोया जब दे खना लागी सासलगिाम ग-ई पाय Saamp pitaaraa Raanaa bhejyaa Meeraa haath diyaa jay Nhaaya dhoya jaba dekhana laagee Saaligaraama ga-ee pay

Raana sent a basket with a snake, but Lo! Mira beheld a saligraan (a symbol of Lord Vishnu) therein. जहिका प्याला िाणा भेज्या अमत ृ ा हदया बनाय

नहाया धोया जब पीवणा लागी होगा-ई अमि अंचाय Jaharakaa pyaalaa Raanaa bhejyaa Amrata diyaa banaay Nhaaya dhoya jaba peevana laagee Hoga-ee amara ancaay

Raana sent a cup full of poison, but the Lord’s grace turned it into sweet nectar: when Meera drank, it she attained eternal life. मीिा के प्रभु सदा सहा-इ िाखे बबघाना हटाय

भजना-भाव में मस्त डोलती गगरिधि पिा बसल जाय Meeraa ke Prabhu sadaa sahaa-e Raakhe bighana hataay Bhajanabhaava me masta dolatee Giridhara para bali jay


Meera’s Lord, always protective, removes every obstacle. Swaying in ecstasy. Singing praises to her Lord Giridhara, Meera surrenders her all.


CHALO MANA GANGA

चलो मन गंगा ॥ चलो मन गंगा-जमन ु ा तीि Chalo mana Gangaa Yamunaa-teera

O Mind, go to the banks of the Gangaa and the Yamunaa. गंगा जमना ननिमल पाणी शीतल होत शिीि Gangaa Yamunaa niramala paanee seetala hota sareera

The pure waters of the Gangaa and the Yamunaa cool the body. बंसी बजावत गावत कान्हो,संग सलये बलवीि Banasee bajaavata gaavata kaanhaa sangaliyaa Bala beera

Sri Krishna plays the flue and sings tunes; his brother Balarama joins him. मोि मुगुट पीतांबि सोहे कंु डल झळकत हीि Mora mukuta peetaambara sohai kundala jhalakaa heera

He wears a garment of yellow and a peacock feather crowns; his earornament sparkles. मीिां के प्रभु गगरिधि नागि चिणकमल पि शीि Meera ke prabhu Giridhara naagara carana kamala para seera

Giridhara, the gentle one, is Meeraa’s Lord: she lays her head on his lotus feet.


JAGO JAGO

जागो जागो ॥ जागो जागो जागो मोहन प्यािा कोयल कूजत बन बन बोले Jago jaago jaago mohana pyaaraa Koyala koojata bana bana bole

Arise awake, dear and charming One; the cuckoos have been sining in the woods. बबक्न्दिा-बनमो मुिसल बजायी नन्दलोगके संग कन्है या हि​िं ग मन प्रभु तुम्हािे चिणकी

Bindiraa-banamo Murali bajaayee Nandalogake sanga kanhaiyaa Hararanga mana prabhu tumhaare caranakee

In the brinda grove the flute sounds; Sri Kishna is there with his companions; Hara Ranga’s mind takes refuges at the Lord’s feet.


EHI MUDAM DEHI

एही मद ु ं दे हह ॥ एही मुदं दे हह श्री कृष्णा कृष्णा मां पाहह गोपाल बाल कृष्ण कृष्ण Ehi mudam dehi Sree Krishna Krishna maam Paahi Gopaala baala Krishna Krishna

Come and delight us, O child Krishna; protect us, O dear Krishna! धाव धाव माधव श्री कृष्णा कृष्णा नव्य नवनीतमाहि श्री कृष्ण कृष्ण Dhaava dhaava Maadhava Sree Krishna Krishna navya Navaneetamaahara Sri Krishna Krishna

Come running, O Maadhava, you who playfully snatch butter from your neighbor's homes भव्यनटनम कुरु श्री कृष्णा कृष्णा बल भद्र सहहत श्री कृष्ण कृष्ण Bhavya natanam kuru Sree Krishna Krishna Bala Bhadra sahita Sree Krishna Krishna

KESHAVA KURU

केशव कुरु ॥

केशव कुरु करुणा दीने कंु ज-कानन चािी माधव मनोमोहन मोहन मुिलीधािी हिीबोल हिीबोल हिीबोल मन आमाि

Keshava kuru karunaa deene kunja-kaanana caaree Maadhava manomohana mohana Muralee-dhaaree Hari bol Hari bol Hari bol mana aamaar

O Keshava, bestow thy grace upon thy luckless servants here; O Keshava, who dost delight to roam Vrindavan’s glades and groves; O Madhava, our mind’s bewitcher, sweet one, who dost steal our hearts, sweetly playing on thy flute. Chant, O mind, the name of Hari, sing aloud the name of Hari, praise Lord Hari’s name. व्रज ककशोि कालीयहि काति भय भंजन नयन बाका बाका सशखीपाखा िागधका हृहद िं जन Vraja kishora kaaleeya hara kaatara bhaya bhanjana Nayana baakaa baakaa shikhi paakhaa Raadhikaa hridi ranjana

Govardhan’s mighty lifter art thou, all garlanded with sylvan flowers, O Damodara, Kamsa’s scourage; O dark one, who dost sport in bliss with sweet Brindavan’s maids.


GOVARDHANA GIRIDHARA

गोवधथन गगरिधि ॥ गोवधथन गगरिधि गोववन्द गोकुल पालक पिमानन्द

श्री वतसांककता श्री कौस्तुभधि भावक भयहि पाहह मुकुन्द Govardhana Giridhara Govinda Gokul paalaka paramaananda Shree vatsaankita Shree koustubhadhara Bhaavaka bhaya hara paahi Mukunda

O Govinda! You are the one who lifted the Govardhan Mountain and protected the cowherds of Gokul; you are supreme bliss. You bear the mark of Shree vatsa (a calf’s image) on your chest; the heavenly gem Kustubha adorns you; you take away the fear of samsara (the cycle of births); O Mukunda! (Krishna), rocked gently as the tender petals of the lotus, protect me. आन्दामत ृ वारिगध खेल अलघु पिाक्रम अनुपमशील

Paatita sura ripu paadapa vrinda Paavana carita paraamrita kanda Naatya rosotkata naanaa bharana Naaraayana teertha vandita carana

You uprooted trees that were the god’s enemies disguised; remembering the story of your life helps us to be pure; you are the source of ambrosia. It is intensely joyful to see you dance adorned with many ornaments. Narayana Tirtha bows at your feet.

आचािववल्लड़ नासलगे ॥ आचािववल्लड़ नासलगे ननन्न नीच बद् ु धीय बबडू नासलगे

ववचािववल्लदे पि​ि दवू षपद ु के चागचकौक्ण्डरुवंथ नासलगे Aacaaravillada naalige ninna Neeca buddhiya bidu naalige Vicaaravillade parara dooshipudake Caacikondiruvantha naalige

You, devoid of good behavior, O tongue, give up your lowness. You have stretched yourself out, O tongue, to abuse others indiscriminately. प्रातःकालडोलेद ु नाक्ल्लगे ससरिपनतयेन्नबािदे नासलगे

पनततपावन नम्म िनतपनत जनकन सततवु नद ु ी कंड्य नासलगे Pratahkaaladoledu nallige Siri-Patiyenna baarade naalige Patita paavana namma Ratipati janakana Satatavu nudi kandya naalige

Waking up morning, O tongue, should you not say Siri pati? Constantly you should repeat the name of Ratipati, who purifies the sinner. Is it not so, O tongue? चाडी हे लसलबेड़ नासलगे ननन्न ड़ीकोम्बेनु कंड्य नासलगे रूहि गोड्या श्री िामन पाडव पाडतासलिउ कंड्य नालीगे

Caadi helalibeda naalige ninna Bedi kombenu kandya naalige Roodhi godeya Shree Raamana paadava Paadutairu kandya naalige

I beg of you, O tongue, don’t slander others. You should sing the glory of Sri Rama’s feet. Is it not so, O tongue? हरियनने स्मरिसय्या नालीगे नि हरियनने भक्जसय्य नालीगे


विद पिु न्दिववठलिायन चिणव ननु तसय्य नालीगे Hariyanne smarisayya naalige Nara Hariyanne bhajisayya naalige Varada Purandarvithala raayana Caranava nutisayya naalige

Repeat, O tongue, the name of Hari. Adore O tongue. Narahari Praise, O tongue, the feet of Purandaravithala, the bestower of boons.


KARUNAAKARA NEENEMBUVU

करुणाकि नीनेम्बुवद ु े तको ॥ करुणाकि नीनेम्बुवुदेतको, भिवसेयी लेनगे परिपरियली ई निजन्मवननत्त,ु नतरुगग नतरुगी मन कि गगसु वद ु कण्डु

Karunaakara neenembuvu detako, bharavase yillenage Paripariyali ee nara janmava nittu, triugi tirugi mana karagisuvuda kandu

Why do people say you are all merciful? It’s hard to believe when I pass through life after life of suffering. करि ध्रुव बसल पांचासळ अहलयेय, पोिे दव नीनन्ते, अरितु ववचारिसी नोडलदे लवु, परि परि कांटेगालाक्न्तवे कृष्णा

Kari Dhruva Bali Paancaali Ahalyeya, poredava neenante, aritu vicaarisi nodaladellavu, parpari kantegalantive Krishnaa

They say you redeeemed the elephant, Dhruva, Bali, Draupadi and Ahalya. To any thinking person, these sound like fairy tales, O Krishna! करुणाकि नननादिे ईगले, किपीडीदे नानु हिी कायो, सिससजअक्षणे सिस नननादिे , दरु ितगलें ननु बाधीपुदन ु ते

Karunaakara neenaadare eegale, karapididennanu Hari kaayo, Hari kaayo Sarasijaakshane sarasa neenaadare, duritagalennanu baadhipudunte

If you really are compassionate, take me by my hand and save me right now! If you live me, how can you let me suffer like this?


मिणकालदसल अजसमलगोसलडे, गरुडध्वजनेम्ब बबरुहदननंद, विबबरुदग ु लू उसलयाबेकाडिे , तवरिताहद कायो पिु न्दिववठल

Maranakaaladali Ajamilagolide, Garudadhwajanemba birudininda, varabirudugalu uliyabekaadare, tvaritadi kaayo Purandaravithala

You saved Ajamila on his death bed and earned the title; Garudadhwaja! Keep the promise of your precious titles; come quickly and save me now, O Purandaravithala!


GOVINDA GOVINDA

गोववन्द गोववन्द ॥ गोववन्द गोववन्द अनत आनंद सकल साधन ननन्नानन्द Govinda Govinda ati Aanada Sakala saadhana ninnaananda

Govinda, Krishna, you are the embodiment of supreme bliss. All devotional practices lead to your bliss. अनु िे णुतण ृ काष्ठ परिपूणथ गोववन्द ननमथलआतमकनागी इरुवुदे आनन्द Anurenu trinakaashtha paripoorna Govinda Nirmalaaatmakanaagi iruvude aananda

Govinda, you pervade every atom, particle and blade of grass. To be pure indeed is bliss. सक्ृ ष्ट क्स्थनत लय कािन गोववन्द ई परि महहमेय नतसलयोदे आनन्द Srishti sthiti laya kaarana Govinda Ee pari mahimeya tiliyode aananda

Govinda, You are the cause of evolution, preservation, and involution. Knowing you’re thus is indeed bliss. मंगल महहम श्री पुिन्दिववठल हहंगदे दासि सलहोदे आनन्द Mangala mahima sree Purandaravithala Hingade daasara salahode aananda

Purandaravithala, you are auspicious, and great. Untiringly protecting devotee servants is indeed bliss.


KARI GOPALA KI

करि गोपाल कक ॥

करि गोपाल कक सब होइ Kari Gopaala ki saba ho-e

Everything done and undone is Gopala’s own operation; जो अपनो पुरुषािथ मानत अनतझूठो है सोइ Jo apano purushaaratha maanat ati jhootho hai so-e

Whoever says he himself is the doer is not telling the truth. साधन मंत्र जन्त्र उद्यं बल यह सब डािहु धोइ जो कछु सलखी िाखख नन्दनन्दन मेहट सकै नहह कोइ Saadahana mantra jantra udyama bala yaha saba daarahu dho-e Jo kachu likhi raakhi nandanandana meti sakai nahi ko-e

Devotional practices, saying mantras, achieving high status – all these are of no avail. No one can alter the way in which nanda-nandana (Sri Krishna) has written our fate (on our foreheads). सख ु दख ु कतहह मित हौ िोइ सूिदास स्वामी ु लाभ अलाभा समखझ तम करुणामय स्याम चिण मन पो-इ

Sukha dukha laabha alaabha samajhi tuma katahi marata hou o-e Sooradaasa swaamee karunaamya syaama carana mana po-e

You have wept enough over happiness and misery, loss and gain; now direct your mind to the lotus feet of the Sooradaasa, the compassionate Shyaama (Sri Krishna).


BHAIYAARE KAANAYYAARE

भैयािे कान्य्यािे ॥ भैयािे कान्य्यािे नेक दिश हदखाए जा िे श्यामसलया प्यािे बन्सीवािे मेिे छानतयापे आजा िे Bhiyaare Kaanayyaare neka darasha dikhaaye jaare Shyamailyaa pyaare banseevaare mere chaatiyaape aajaa re

My brother, O Krishna! Show yourself to me. O dear black one, with your flute comes into my heart. मेिो भैया वािजलाला व्रजबाल सैया नंददल ु ाला यमुनाककनािे धीिसमीिे नेकाबासिी भाजाये जा िे

Mero bhaiyaa varajalaalaa vrajabaala saiyaa nandaduaalaa Yamunaakinaare dheerasameere nekabaasaree bhaajaaye jaa re

My brother, the darling of Vraja, friend of the youth of Vraja, dear son of Nanda, on the banks of Yamuna, in the gentle breeze come and play on the flute once. प्रणकी प्राण भैया मेिो सभक्षा मांगग दिशन तेिोनयनमे ठािो वपयास ननवािो मेिे िाजनकी िाजा Praanakee praana bhaiyaa mero bhikshaa maangi darashana tero nayaname thaaro piyaasa nivaaro mere raajanakee raajaa

My brother, the life-breath of my life, I appeal to you to show yourself to me. Stay in my eyes and quench my thirst O king of kings!


JANMA-JANMKO MAI

जन्मजन्मको मै ॥ जन्मजन्मको मै दास तुम्हािो करुणाकि अब पाि मुिािे Janma-janmako mai dasa tumhaaro karunaakara aba paara Muraare

O Murari (Lord Krishna), I am your servant. In each of my births. O Compassionate One, take me across the ocean. भवसागि जल तिण कहठण है ककसववध जावू पाि मिु ािे Bhavasaagara jala tarana kathina hai kisavidha jaavoo paara Muraare

O Murari, this ocean of worldliness is hard to cross, how can I reach the other side? तुमबबन औि न पालक मेिो वंचक सब परिवाि मुिािे Tumabina oura na paalaka mero vancaka saba parivaara Muraare

O Murari, without you, there is no one to protect me or my family. मैं गण ु हीन दोष परिपण ू थ अपनी ओि ननहाि मिु ािे Mai gunaheena dosha paripoorana apanee or nihaara Murare

O Murari, I am devoid of virtues and full of imperfections. ब्रह्मानन्द ववलम्ब न कीजे सुननये मेिी पुकाि मुिािे Brahmaananda vilamba na keeje suniye mere pukaara Muraare

Brahmananda says: O Lord, please delay no longer; answer my prayers.


GAAYATI VANAMAALEE

गायनत वनमाली ॥ गायनत वनमाली मधुिं Gaayati Vanamaalee madhuram

Sri Krishna sings melodiously: पष्ु प-सग ु क्न्ध सम ु लय समीिे मनु नजन-दसशथत यमुना-तीिे Pushpa-sugandhi sumalaya sameere Munijana-darshita Yamunaateere

In the gentle breeze filled with the fragrance of flowers, On the bank of Yamuna witnessed by sages; कूक्जत शक ु वपक मुख खगकुञ्जे कुनतलालक बहु नीिद पञ् ु जे Koojita shukapika mukha khagakunje Kutilaalaka bahu neerada punje

With flocks of singing birds, such as parrots and peacocks, With a bunch of lotus flowers in the waters; तल ु सीदाम ववभष ू ण हािी जलज-भवस्तुत सद्गण ु शौिी Tulaseedaama vibhooshana haaree Jalaja-bhavastuta sadguna shauree

Adorned with a garland of Tulasi and extolled by Brahma for his divine qualities; पिमहं स–हृदयोतसवकािी परिक्प्प्रत मिु लीिवकािी Paramahamsa-hridayotsavakaaree Paripoorita muraleeravakaaree

Pleasing the hearts of the great sages producing perfect music on the flute.


BHAJARE GOPAALAM

भजिे गोपालं ॥ भजिे गोपालं मानस भजिे गोपालं Bhajare Gopalam maanasa Bhajare Gopalam

O my mind! Worship Gopala (Sri Krishna), worship Gopala. भज गोपालं भक्जतकुचेलं बत्रजगन्मूलं हदनतसुतकालं Bhaja Gopalam bhajita-kucelam Trijaganmolam Ditisutakaalam
