First home buyer assistance changes ON JANUARY 1 the amount of government financial assistance for first home buyers decreased. Since the assistance was introduced it has been welcomed not only by first home buyers but also vendors and builders. The total financial assistance for a first home buyer when purchasing an established home in Victoria is now $9,000. This is comprised of the state government’s grant, which is worth $7,000, and the bonus, which is worth $2,000. The federal government Boost, which was worth $3,500, ceased on December, 31 last year. A higher level of assistance remains for first home buyers who are purchasing a new home. Within metropolitan Melbourne $18,000 can be accessed, comprising the grant ($7,000) and the bonus ($11,000). The federal government boost, which was worth $7,000, also ceased on December 31 last year. If your first home is a newly constructed one outside metropolitan Melbourne, a total of $22,500 worth of assistance can be accessed. “While I was rowing I came close to making the Olympic team and met my wife through the sport,” said Colley. Yet the sports action does not stop there, Colley has had a heavy involvement in Jiu Jitsu, where he won an Australian title in 1996 as well as a silver medal at the Pan Pacific Games. “Jiu Jitsu taught me a lot of discipline and dedication. Also how to be calm and focused when you’re under pressure, which I hope I’ll use in real estate,” he said. He has also always remained committed to life saving at the Torquay Surf Life Saving Club since his days as a Nipper. He has been a member of the rowing crew and enjoyed the close friends he has made through the club.
