FIRST EVER BRAZILIAN WORLD CHAMPION


Stop #1: QUIKSILVER PRO, GOLD COAST

Gabriel kicked off the season with a win at Snapper Rocks, defeating local boy and crowd favorite Joel Parkinson riding the FCS II Performer PC.



Stop #2: DRUG AWARE PRO, MARGARET RIVER

The shifting conditions in WA proved a little testing for Medina, but he still managed a quarterfinal finish.




Stop #3: RIP CURL PRO, BELLS BEACH

Medina’s form slipped towards the end of the Aussie leg, going down to fellow Brazilian and FCS team rider Adriano De Souza for a 9th place at Bells.


Stop #4: BILLABONG PRO, RIO The slide continued in Brazil where everyone expected Gab’s to dominate… A disappointing 13th put his World Title campaign in jeopardy.



Stop #5: FIJI PRO

Gabriel resurrects his confidence and title hopes with a convincing win in Fiji over USA’s Nat Young again riding the FCS II Performer PC Large. Two from 5 events, and he officially becomes the man to beat.



Stop #6: J-BAY OPEN

In pumping 4 to 6 foot J-Bay Medina narrowly goes down to Owen Wright in the quarters. A respectable result that keeps him on top of the ratings.



Stop #7: BILLABONG PRO, TAHITI

In one of the most exciting, and highest scoring finals ever seen in ASP history, Gabriel defeats Kelly slater at solid Teahupoo. In doing so he solidifies his big wave credibility, and sends a clear message that the old guard is officially on notice.




Stop #8: HURLEY PRO, TRESTLES

Medina never looked to be in rhythm at Lower’s, yet he was still able to bank a 5th, and maintain his lead position heading into the European leg.


Stop #9: QUIKSILVER PRO, FRANCE

Tested by the conditions, Medina struggles to find form in has quarterfinal and has to settle for a 5th place. Luckily his closest rivals also stumble in this event, and he maintains the #1 position.




Stop #10: MOCHE RIP CURL PRO, PORTUGAL

Gabriel has an opportunity to clinch the title in Portugal, but an early round 3 exit to Brett Simpson means the showdown will be decided at Pipeline.


Stop #11: BILLABONG PIPE MASTERS, HAWAII Gabriel Medina becomes the first ever Brazilian, and the equal youngest, men’s ASP World Champion. Riding the FCS II Performer template exclusively in 2014, Medina lead for most of the season and rose to the occasion in the last event to clinch the title over Kelly Slater and fellow team rider Mick Fanning.
