The Precision Collet Chucks CENTRO P are suitable for use with MQL (minimal quantity lubrication). With MQL a dosing mechanism reduces the required amount of lubricant for the cutting tool to a minimum. This is led to the place of working by a flow of air, either directly or as a fine spray. Once all technical details have been clarified, we can convert a CENTRO P suitable for MQL. The tapping chucks SYNCHRO T can be supplied as well for MQL on request. Maxi GRIP – High-performance Power Clamping Syst
New clamping technology: clamping forces of 800 Nm and hig The machining of highly resistant materials such as stainless steel or titanium is increasingly in demand – and places high demands on the clamping forces of your tool clamping devices! The new High Performance Power Clamping System MaxiGRIP doubles the already high gripping power and torque available with the CENTRO P precision chuck system, therefore permitting more extreme rough milling applications.
In combination with CENTRO P our newly patented induction technology offers longer service life and best surface roughness, but with lower system cost.
The solution is called MaxiGRIP In combination with the well known CENTRO P precision collet chuck, this thermal clamping system enables clamping forces of up to 800 Nm and higher to be achieved. For years CENTRO P has set standards in concentricity, cushioning, stability and, in 80% of applications, clamping force; the increased demands on the clamping torque are now met and even exceeded with MaxiGRIP.
Greater process reliability with less equipment Until now the tool has been clamped via the nut with a clearly defined tightening torque using the clamping wrench specially developed by FAHRION. A clamping wrench is used because the clamping nuts are manufactured to extremely high standards of homogeneity and symmetry, i.e. without slots or holes in order to reduce imbalance and noise levels as well as the atomisation of the cooling agent.
The new technology goes one step further A tool, for example with a shaft diameter of 20 mm, is tightened in the CENTRO P to 140 Nm as usual. The nut is subsequently heated up to 150 °C within a few seconds by an inductive heat source (380 V). Hence, we are still in the low temperature range. Due to the temperature difference, the clamping nut expands in relation to the collet chuck. After heating up, the clamping nut is retightened to 140 Nm using the torque wrench. This additional rotation of the clamping nut finally more than doubles the clamping torque.
Precision, concentricity and cushioning remain outstanding However, this enormous increase is not achieved at the expense of precision. With a concentricity of 3 μm (based on a tool with a projection length of 3xD) you still obtain the usual FAHRION quality. The advantage of the low temperature range – for example in relation to shrinking, in whitch up to 300 °C and water cooling are needed – also lies in the short cooling phases and cheaper equipment. FAHRION's cooling solution consists of a simple cooling bath, in whitch the tool is cooled down to lukewarm within just one minute. It has been verified that the small temperature differences have no negative effect on the microstructure of the material. 10

The cushioning characteristics also remain outstanding, although they are slightly reduced by the thermal clamping. The good cushioning characteristics are mainly attributable to the multipart clamping system, in whitch the collet absorbs vibrations on account of its cushioning capacity. Numerous sectors will benefit in future from these technical characteristics together with the new maximised clamping force of the CENTRO P.

SYNCHRO|T â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Tapping chuck As precise as everything else from FAHRION The tapping chucks SYNCHRO T serve to compensate for pitch differences of the tap and the synchronous spindle, as well as to compensate for thread tolerances of the tap. It also provides a cushioning effect between the tool and the spindle during synchronised tapping (rigid tapping) on machining centres with synchronous spindles.
They are characterised by the following properties minimum length compensation on compression/tension (Âą 0.5 mm) high radial rigidity due to double bearing high concentricity high clamping force due to clamping by tap collets with internal square drive separate compression/tension mechanism defined adjustable compressive/tensile forces compact, wear-free design long service life internal coolant feed possible in all types no clamping nuts with sealing discs are required when using coolant, since the FAHRION GER-GB tapping chucks are generally supplied with seals (usable up to 120 bar) minimal quantity lubrication (MQL) available on request

In summary In order to achieve the optimum cutting result, the FAHRION tapping chucks SYNCHRO T should be used on machines with synchronous spindles, despite use of the latest controllers for the extension of service life and improvement of quality.

Flex-Hone® Brushes We recommend the use of Flex-Hone® Brushes for cleaning the bore of the collets. These brushes are flexible and oversized at the beginning, so that they can be used for slightly bigger diameters when new. Afterwards they can also be used for smaller diameters until they need to be replaced. Instructions for use Flex-Hone® Brushes should be rotated when inserted into and removed from the collet. Use either a standard commercially available honing oil or drilling emulsion! The speed should be between 60 to 600 r.p.m. depending on the diameter. Description

Requirements Balancing is necessary whenever optimum working conditions have to be achieved e.g. • • • •

However, it is only economically sensible to balance at speeds of 8,000 r.p.m. or higher. At speeds lower than this the cutting forces are as a rule greater than the imbalance forces. Balancing means – determining the centre of gravity axis and moving it back to the axis of rotation. Information
The max. speeds (additional fine balancing necessary) were recommended as guideline values as limit speeds for the HSK interfaces within the framework of HSK standardisation, as the speed has the greatest influence and is also the limit for spindle and spindle bearings.

The values for chucks with taper shanks are empirical values which should not be exceeded (the values depend to a very great extent on the respective machine spindle).
Limits to Balancing Grade According to ISO standard 1940, the balancing standard is described using G. The balancing standard G corresponds to g/mmkg or μm and is in relation to the speed. As an explanation: At a speed of 9,500 r.p.m and a weight of 1 kg G2.5 means a permissible offset between the rotational axis and the centre of gravity axis of the spindle of 2.5 μm. At a speed of 19,000 r.p.m. it would be 1.25 μm and at 38,000 r.p.m. 0.625 μm. If the tool holder together with the tool weighs half the amount, i.e. 0.5 kg, the balance will also be halved. Until now, so as to minimise guarantee claims the machine or spindle manufacturers demanded such excessively fine balancing that their demands could only be met by balancing the chuck and the cutter on the machine spindle. In order to avoid the high economic costs this caused, draft standard DIN 69888 covering balancing requirements on rotating tool systems was agreed jointly by the machine, spindle, balancing machine and tool manufacturers. The standard is a sensible solution in both technical and economic terms.

Balancing
Static or Dynamic Balancing In practice balancing is very often carried out in one plane (Fig. 1). But the tool demonstrates only one centre of gravity error. The main axis of inertia and the rotational axis run in parallel to each other. This is known as “static” imbalance when the tool holder is relatively short in comparison with the diameter of the spindle holder. In the case of long and thin tool holders balancing in two planes (Fig. 2) is sensible. In such cases, in addition to the existing centre of gravity error the main axis of inertia and the rotational axis no longer run in parallel to each other. This is known as a “dynamic” imbalance. The resulting imbalance moment generates a wobbling movement of the tool seat. The following rule of thumb may act as a guide to whether the tool holder should be balanced as “static” or “dynamic” Static balancing applies to tool holders • which have an operating speed of less than 20,000 r.p.m. • whose length (A) is less than double the diameter (D2) Dynamic balancing applies to tool holders • which have an operating speed over 20,000 r.p.m. • whose length (A) is more than double the diameter (D2) All single-cutter drilling and boring tools should be balanced in two planes.
