Thank you to the people of Surrey for voting Sherrold Haddad one of the Readers’ Choices for Business Person of the Year. It is Sherrold’s business success which has allowed him to be so active in the community, to give back to the City that has given him so much.

WINNER!

One of the ways he has been heavily involved in the City of Surrey is through the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation. He has been involved for close to 20 years and is the SMHF’s longest serving board member.

He was first elected to the board in 1995 and was the first and only person to be named a Lifetime Director in 2008. Sherrold Haddad and his wife, Marina Haddad, have also been strong financial supporters of the hospital.

Most recently, they made a $100,000 contribution to the Emergency Centre Campaign. In 2007, the couple also gifted $100,000 to Simon Fraser University in Surrey that funded a 100-seat lecture theatre. They have also provided scholarships to students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University for many years.

In addition to being involved in the Variety Club of BC, Sherrold has received several awards, such as being named Citizen of the Year by the City of Surrey in 2001 and receiving the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for Public Service in 2002.

He also received a Community Achievement Award in 2004, which was presented to 36 British Columbians.

When asked why he feels the need to give back, Haddad recalled a conversation he had with a long-time member of the Variety Club many years ago who asked the same question, “When I help others, I feel good for me.”
