The 47-year-old owner of the Surrey station told one of his employees that he heard more than 10 gunshots. “He said it was a heavy firing,� said Gurpreet Singh, a Radio India staffer who spoke to Gill after the incident. Bullets hit the living room and dining areas in the front of the Newton home, Maninder Gill told Singh. Singh Gill No one was injured. Singh said Gill was not scared for himself but was concerned about his wife and two adult daughters who share their home. Police cordoned off the area of 121 Street and 56 Avenue and a police dog was called in. Surrey RCMP said multiple calls came in about gunshots being heard in the neighbourhood at approximately 12:30 a.m.

Soccer wave to hit Surrey? Fraser Downs may become home to Whitecaps training facility by Kevin Diakiw NEGOTIATIONS ARE underway to bring the Vancouver Whitecaps FC to Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino, The Leader has learned. The city is currently talking with the team about locating a soccer training facility at the city-owned property, which is currently home to the harness racing track, a casino and the annual Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition. The Whitecaps are currently playing games at Swangard Stadium in Vancouver and train-

ing at SFU in Burnaby. Surrey wants to move that training facility here. Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts would not discuss specifics, but confirmed talks are ongoing. “At this point in time, all I can say is we’re in discussions,� Watts said.
