FEELING FESTIVE

Christmas is very nearly upon us. If you haven’t booked tickets to Lapland UK, a National Trust lights trail or Winter Wonderland, then where have you been?! The tickets for these things seem to be released earlier and earlier each year and if you haven’t booked by September then you’ve got no chance and probably some very disappointed kids.

I’ve rounded up a selection of Christmassy things to do with the family that you don’t need to book way in advance for.

FEELING FESTIVE

ICE ICE BABY

My number one would be Glide Ice Rink at Battersea Power Station. This is the coolest ice rink in town this year. It’s set against the backdrop of one of London’s most iconic and newly anticipated refurbished buildings. They also have great food options, as well as live entertainment and fantastic shops (if your husband has the patience!).

EAT OUT

A short walk away from Battersea is Peggy Porschen in Belgravia where you can go for a cupcake and a cup of tea. Their red velvet is my favourite. They always do some lovely festive specials too.

Have brunch or lunch at the Ivy Chelsea

Garden. You can’t go wrong with the Ivy chain, it’s perfect for all the family. They always have the most impressive facade of Christmas decorations. Other restaurants with a similar vibe are Daphne’s and 34.

MAYFAIR

One of the most Instagrammable store fronts has to be Cartier on Bond Street. Even if you don’t go in, you must stop outside to check out the beautiful display. Grab a coffee at Ralph’s which is right opposite, whilst you soak up the charming Mayfair atmosphere. The kids can have a hot chocolate and you can maybe persuade your partner to take you into Cartier for a browse!

SURREY HILLS

Beaverbrook Hotel will be bringing back their picture perfect ice rink overlooking the Surrey Hills. Tickets can be purchased as a skate and dine option with a delicious meal at one of their three restaurants - always a winner!

CHRISTMAS TRAIL

There is a wonderful Christmas family trail at Polesden Lacey in Bookham with active challenges and games designed to exercise those Christmas spirits. If it’s raining, fear not, the house has also been decorated with sparkling Christmas splendour where children can wander around and take part in a storybook trail. Just a short walk away is a quaint little coffee shop called Carolina’s in Bookham. They do the best festive hot chocolates including Terry’s chocolate orange and mint, as well as delectable homemade cakes.

FESTIVE SUPERHEROES

Last but not least, the Festive Superhero Trail at Painshill Park, Cobham. The superhero theme is bound to be a big hit with the kids, irrespective of their age. Wander through the historical gardens along the tarmac paths which are buggy friendly. Bikes and scooters are also welcome. My children love going into the grotto and making up enchanted stories. I like to finish off with lunch in a private igloo at Coppa Club. What could be more festive than lunch in an igloo?!

I know it can be a stressful time of year and there is such immense pressure to go here, there and everywhere but sometimes all you need is something simple or small to make beautiful memories with your family!

OUr FooD

At Sicily StrEATS we pride ourselves on using fresh ingredients to create exciting and indulgent arancini. From our food truck, our Arancini is cooked fresh to order, creating a crispy golden coating. We are a modern take on a staple of Sicilian cuisine. FooD TrUCK AnD MoRe

You can now hire Sicily Streats for private parties, weddings or events. To date they have had successful pitches at Brighton Christmas Festival, Westminster Cathedral Christmas Market, Wimbledon Tennis Screening in Marylebone and a 3 month pop-up residency at Epsom Social. They also recently catered for Eurovision London at the Rio Private Cinema in Shoreditch. Here they catered for 400 people but they can do smaller parties with anything from 20 people. If you need catering for a private event / party / wedding or anything else, get in touch and they’ll work with you to create a menu that you can be proud to serve to your guests. Although their Arancini is fried it is slightly more premium than your standard burger and chips and it goes down really well alongside a glass of wine, champagne or a beer.
