LOCK UNIT The smart system is developed so that the existing reliable flexi stand alone unit is linked via a suitable fault tolerant wired network that could be managed and monitored centrally with a Facilities Management Computer. The CAN bus (Controller Area Network) is widely used in Automotive and Industrial distributed network applications. The advantage of using CAN is that it uses a single terminated twisted pair cable. It offers high reliability with extensive error checking and typical maximum data rate achievable is 40KBytes/sec. The SMART system is based on the current design of the Biometric Lock hardware.

The Enrolment unit is a fingerprint biometric unit with SMART software. Via the Facilities Management software, it captures the User fingerprint template. It will interface with the PC via a serial Com port. The Smart system is scalable according to the number of rooms, in any single building including multiple floor levels.
FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE Facilities Management software is developed to allow users to be managed. Via this software, it is possible to:

Control access to specified doors in the building.

Restrict access particular doors based on date and time.

Maintain a database of all users and details of particular access rights

Enroll or de-enroll users via the Facilities Management PC.
Recognize abuse i.e. repeated attempts to access a particular door.

Enable escape routes in case of fire.
•
Allow searches to be conducted on the database for users, time & date stamp entries via particular doors
•
Allow simple reports to be printed.
•
Time & Date stamp all door accesses using the host PC clock.
