LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT SUSAN ISAWI

COVER LETTER I am 24 years old. I can speak Italian, English, Portugues, Spanish and Arabic. I have worked in three different countries since I Ieft school. I would describe myself as an outgoing but practical person (a good mixture I think) and someone who makes friends easily. My interests away from work are hand drawing and photography, which help me to express my point of view regarding different environments. I always like to try something new and challenging, and my most rewarding experience so far, it was the time I spent in Jordan helping refugees. It opened my eyes to the world outside my comfort zone and it gave me a more understanding and balanced perspective on the priorities in life. I am a graduate of a master degree in Advanced Architecture of Landscape at the University of Rome “ La Sapienza and I previously studied my bachelor degree in landscape at The University of Rome and University of Evora. My studies have helped me to develop my architecture skills, learning to see different spaces in relation to their contest and use. Additionally, I have gained excel theoretical and practical computer skills regarding important architecture programs, such as Auto CAD, Microsoft Office, Adobe and other graphics communication programs. My attraction for landscape makes me constantly in search for contest that give me strong motivations for new challenges, with the aim of always developing creative projects. My previous study and work experience in several countries draws me to your drive towards increasing the international audience. I want to be involved in dealing with the varying landscape architecture challenges. I am always keen to build up my learning capabilities and to be regularly tested. I’m highly motivated for a new working experience in your organisation because I want to work on this field and I feel that I would be able to make a useful contribution as well as benefiting personally from the valuable experience it would provide. Indeed, over the past four years or so I have built up a good amount of relevant knowledge, experience and skills on a range of academic and workplace projects. For example, my placements in Italy gave me valuable know-how on leading a team, and on more detailed skills such as competency in building a landscape project, starting from gathering information about the area, to building a new ecological environment, taking into consideration each social aspect of the space. I have been absolutely sure for some time now that the landscape architecture is the world I want to do. Furthermore, one of my strength is the hand drawing, which is not for me only a hobby, but it helps me in my project to put into practice my ideas regarding the working enviroment, and it allows me to create each detail of

Tronto: Landscape Planning and River Contract

The Tronto river runs through different types of landscapes: the urban landscape and the natural landscape. This area suffers from many others critical issues related to the accessibility of the river, infrastructure connections and the urban residual spaces, although the worst problem is the hydrogeological problem of the river’s flooding. Our project aims to solve all these problems by the use of bioengineering techniques which creates stable banks and risolves the soil erosion. The ecological corridors’ net with the river and an accessible waterfront have been masterplan priorities of our project, which aims to create an ongoing system in both natural and functional terms.

RIVER CONTRACT

The Tronto River contract creates an adaptation to the local environmental and socio-economical realities with an adequate partnership management. The importance of the mobilization around this project of institutional partners, as well as local collectivities, agricultural producers and water users in general reveals the great expectations of the actors concerning this new tool of water participative management

RIATTIVATION OF THE RESIDUAL SPACES

This area suffers from many others critical issues related to the accessibility of the river, infrastructure connections and the urban residual spaces. The project wants also to riattivates the green system inside the neighborhood. The reinventetion of residual spaces is the catalyst for the trasformations of the urban areas and it becomes a whole system in which the green spaces becomes parts of the river’s park.

URBAN EMPTY SPACES ”The Third Landscape – an undetermined fragment of the Planetary Garden – designates the sum of the space left over by man to landscape evolution — to nature alone. Included in this category are left behind (délaissé) urban or rural sites, transitional spaces, neglected land (friches), swamps, moors, peat bogs, but also roadsides, shores, railroad embankments, etc. To these unattended areas can be added space set aside, reserves in themselves: inaccessible places, mountain summits, non-cultivatable areas, deserts; institutional reserves: national parks, regional parks, nature reserves” (Gilles Clement)

The project involved reorganizing of the landscape and infrastructure by the reorganization a functional waterfront which aims to restore the ecological and social value of the waterfront

METAMORPHOSIS

The project aims to requalificate an urban degradated space. Starting from the concept of Metamorphosis which is best shown in Escher drawing. The metamorphosis becomes the central system and the project forms and the functionalities develop according to itrding to it

The project aims to requalify the degradated neighborhood. The large volumes that characterize the area cause the absence of a connective space that is the true reason of degradation of the neighborhood. The goal of the project is the urban regeneration throught the trasformation of the main axis into a Linear Park

SUSPENDED GARDENS Imagine to create a high line park, which develops through the buildings and becomes the green system that we can see out from our high windows. This is what it could bring the reuse of a section of the high line called Tangenziale es. The new future for this type of infrastructure, which could be no more an impacting street but instead a linear park over our head

PLANNING

Planning of the rural landscape, The project aims to study the Territorial Landscape Plan and compaRe it with the actual territory’s condition. The Plan’s revision will make possible the improvement of the plan and at the same time the creation of a masterplan which will consider all the aspects of this landscape. The protagonists will be the natural and anthropogenic landscape elements and structures such as characteristic plant communities, monument buildings and structures, objects of tourist interests, terrain topographic and geological features and uniqueness, tourist infrastructure.

The hand drawing it’s my way to express my point of view. I believe just through our hand and sketching in a paper we can really describe what we see or better how we would like to see a landscape. Our immagination becomes reality
