Seaside Living from Sea Ranch to San Diego

Heather Sandy Hebert and Chase Reynolds Ewald

The California Coast is an iconic landscape, conveying ideas of endless sunshine, pristine beaches, swaying palm trees, epic waves, and sinuous curving roads clinging to dramatic cliffs along a rugged coastline. MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME

A Guide to Decorating with Heirlooms and Antiques that Tell Stories

Chelsey Brown

Heirlooms and antiques are our time capsules into the past, and visually stand the test of time. Whether it’s your grandmother’s diary, the silver pocket watch, or that thrifted armoire that didn’t even get passed down within your own family, these items bear witness to the lives (and loves) that came before us. In her conversational, chatty style, Chelsey Brown advocates embracing the emotional ties and historical narratives these pieces represent. By valuing and preserving heirlooms and antiques, we not only ensure that their stories endure, but we create homes that tell a story of those who live inside. We’re designing unique spaces where you feel something and don’t just look like every other home you see.

THE HOUSE, THE GHOST, AND

ME

Tessa B.H. Ruiz • Illustrated by Eliza Moreno

Written by a New Orleans enthusiast, this bilingual picture book is the perfect story to help little ones with curious minds for interior design learn the importance of preservation while also empowering them to express their creativity.

Claudie lives in a house in the heart of New Orleans, a city where Mardi Gras beads dance in the breeze and every corner is steeped in history. Her home is a treasure trove of a hundred years’ worth of stories. Join Claudie as we explore the hidden gems within each room. However, as Claudie yearns to redesign a few household elements, the spirits of the house remind her of the importance of architectural and cultural preservation.

TESSA B.H. RUIZ grew up in Portland, Oregon. She received her BA in Fine Arts at the University of Southern California, where, in the depths of the library, she first became acquainted with the allure and architecture of New Orleans. After spending two years in the French Quarter, her debut picture book, The House, the Ghost, and Me was written under the watchful eye of her newborn baby. She lives, once again, in Portland with her husband and two daughters.

ELIZA MORENO is an illustrator of children’s books who is passionate about art in its many forms, including ceramics and photography. She enjoys exploring various traditional techniques, but her heart truly belongs to digital illustration. Presently, she resides in a quaint corner of Mexico City.

A bilingual picture book about the fascinating world of interior design, set in the city of New Orleans.

Come Back, Salmon

“An inspiring story of young scientists in action. Candid color photos of boys and girls of several ethnic groups, plus a text based on recorded conversations with the kids, lend drama and immediacy; additional scientific facts (e.g., how salmon scales tell the age of the fish; how salmon build a nest or ‘redd’) appear in boxes.”

Welcome to Spring 2025 at Gibbs Smith!

As you know, Gibbs Smith is an employee-owned, majority female-owned, mission-driven B Corp that believes in our people, our communities, and our customers. One of our already achieved goals is to be carbon neutral. That means, among other things, we offset carbon emitted when shipping your orders to you. Thank you for being part of our mission.

This season we’re highlighting our children’s books. We have so much to offer for kids, including the BabyLit® series and other board books you’ve loved from us for so long, as well as new picture books, nonfiction and activity books, and even some spooky fiction for older readers.

Spring brings a new Layered View Board Book perfect for Easter baskets (and bunny lovers), Some Bunnies (page 24); two new BabyLit® books, Great Expectations (page 30) and The Great Gatsby (page 31); and three more in the Count On Series, Chicago (page 27), Oregon (page 28), and Pennsylvania (page 29).

Also on the Gibbs Smith list are You Are a Rainbow of Energy: A Kid’s Guide to the Chakras (page 26); A Kid’s Guide to Backyard Trees (page 25); the next book from Anastasia Garcia, Creepy Campfire Stories (page 33); and an outdoor activity book titled Forest Magic for Kids (page 32).

Our 7 Cats Press® list features three new board books for Spring: ABCs & 123s (page 34), an early concept book; Friends and Stories: A Little One’s Introduction to the Old and New Testaments (page 35); and Oink & Moo Paint a Barn (page 36), where you can join Oink the pig and Moo the cow as they work together learn about having the confidence to be unconventional.

Please take a look at the rest of this catalog—from interior design to cookbooks and more. We absolutely have something to interest you and your customers.

Thank you as always for your continued, and much appreciated, support of Gibbs Smith Book & Gift.

All the best, The Employee Owners of Gibbs Smith
