Interior Two sides of the word
You can see interior as the inside of a house Like interior design. You can also see interior as the interior of a human being Like emotions, mood swings, thoughts. This book tells the story of both. My work in this book shows you the small still lifes of a female houshold. But the basis of this female household was the start of a new life. There was the happy part. With lots of joy and relief, with energy and courage. With rediscovery of the self and much pleasure in interior design. And there was the sad part, the part that was drown in tears. With mood swings and many thoughts, full of doubts, soothed with wine and cigarettes. A long lasted relationship had been broken. An old live had come to an end.
Interior The interior of my friend
One day my dear friend had to move to a small place. It was a temporary shelter. Short of all kinds of stuff, she came up with a splendid idea. Instead of buying, she asked around if anyone had secondhand things. Within a short period of time friends, and friends of friends of friends had heard about it. People were only too happy to give. They were also happy to get rid of lovely things they kept but never used. It felt good to hand them over to someone in need for it. My friend was overwhelmed by all the generous gifts. She got things for the living room, the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Some people gave things like a refrigerator, washing machine and bookcase. She got boxes full of plates, cups, glasses, bowls, knives, forks ... and so on. When you have to fill an empty household, it’s amazing how much stuff you need. When I visited her I saw that she had made beautifully interior design choices. She had taken from all the generous gifts a combination of - as I saw it - little still lifes. I always have my camera with me and I asked her if I was free to make photo’s. She liked the idea. Lucky me! We shared some wine and lots of thoughts, I hugged her to pieces. We shared a meal, more wine and more thoughts, I hugged her again to pieces. Between all that I captured her small still lifes with my camera. You will find the results in this e-book.
Interior The way I work
Before there is the actual work that I present to the public, years have gone by. My way of working is a very slow process. The original photo’s in this e-book for example have been made in 2013. Over the months to years I carefully select my photo’s. An important part of this process is: letting it rest. Every now and then I take out the photo’s and select. If a selected photo is still worthwhile after a long period of time, it can stay. I will edit it until I have got the desired result. If I make a collage, it always consist of (parts of) the selected photos. The editing operation is a process of looking, assessing and adjusting. This can also take months to years. The photo’s in this e-book are the result of this way of working.

Interior
I hope you have enjoyed this e-book. For me it was a pleasure to make it. There is also good news: my dear friend and her partner restored their relationship. The seperation was good for both. They learned a lot and have been living together again for a number of years now. With whole my heart I want to thank my dear friend for her courage, honesty, ability to share and to be open to me about her deepest thoughts. And of course, for het beautiful interior design.
