The power behind the vision.
DIVANE BROTHERS ELECTRIC COMPANY Powering metropolitan Chicago’s most ambitious and visionary public and private projects since 1920
As the sun rises over Lake Michigan, Chicago is powering up for a new day. Offshore, the world’s largest water treatment plant is pumping and purifying a million gallons of water a minute to meet the needs of the nation’s third largest city and 125 Chicago suburbs.
Throughout the metropolitan area, more than five million residents
are showering, brewing coffee, checking email and watching the morning news — unaware of the vast, hidden electrical infrastructure that brings clean water into their homes and powers their appliances and electronics.
In Chicago-area hospitals, doctors are scrubbing up for lifesaving
surgeries, confident that the sophisticated electrical systems that power their operating rooms will function without interruption — even during a citywide blackout.
Deep below the streets and sidewalks, a massive network of
underground tunnels protects the city from catastrophic flooding and water pollution by storing excess stormwater and sewage. Powerful pumping stations divert the overflow to the city’s water purification plants, where it can be treated and safely discharged.
On the city’s roads, railways and runways, Chicagoans are
heading to destinations near and far, giving little thought to the complex electronic, signaling and communication systems that are keeping their vehicles moving, their trains on track and their planes safely positioned for takeoff.
None of this would be possible without the essential electrical
infrastructures designed and installed by Divane Brothers Electric Company, the contractor of choice for metropolitan Chicago’s largest and most complex public and private projects since 1920. Today, Divane Brothers Electric powers every part of our lives, making our world-class city and its suburbs safer, healthier and more productive.
Powering metropolitan Chicago’s big
“Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood.” In 1909, visionary architect and urban planner Daniel Burnham urged city leaders to think big as he presented a bold new plan to beautify Chicago’s lakefront; improve rail, road and water routes; create a vibrant center for government and cultural pursuits; and develop public green spaces to “refresh the spirit.” Chicago’s leaders have been thinking big ever since — and Divane Brothers Electric Company has been turning their ambitious dreams into realities by providing unparalleled electrical contracting services for clients in aviation, business, education, government, mass transit, medicine, recreation and transportation.
plans and bold dreams since 1920
Trusted and time tested In 1920, when brothers Daniel, John and William Divane founded their company on Chicago’s West Side, electricity accounted for less than 10 percent of the U.S. energy supply. As the demand for electricity grew, Divane Brothers Electric Company grew with it, developing a reputation for integrity, safety and superb workmanship along the way.
The contractor of choice for projects too big to fail Today, our privately held, familyowned business is widely regarded as the electrical contractor of choice for largescale, technically complex and logistically challenging public and private projects in the metropolitan Chicago region. Over the years, we’ve provided electrical services for airports, convention halls, hospitals, hotels, office buildings, railways, roadways, schools, sports stadiums and even the city’s deep tunnel project.
Serious about project management In the 21st century, which runs on increasingly sophisticated technologies, most large-scale projects are unprecedented in their complexity, with more systems to integrate, more vendors to manage, more details to oversee and more deadlines to meet. To ensure a smooth progression from the pre-construction phase through the project closeout phase, we’ve developed a rigorous project management system that employs a focused team approach.
Collaborative, engaged and relentlessly proactive With a robust pre-construction team that resolves all project concerns prior to construction, an uncompromising corps of project coordinators charged with facilitating every step of the construction process and a project management protocol designed to meet the demands of the 21st century, Divane Brothers Electric has never been more proactive — or better equipped to ensure a seamless startup and a smoothly executed project.
