Dear ______________________, I’d like to tell you a story about two Ramblers. Zachary Aldana ’12 lives with his mom, dad and three brothers on the city’s Northwest Side. He leaves the house at 5:50 a.m. on school days and takes two buses and a train to reach Loyola. It’s a long trek — over 90 minutes — but Zach is committed to being a Rambler. He feels that Loyola is a place where anybody can fit in “because there is so much diversity.” Loyola is like a second home for Zach, who dreams of becoming a musician and an educator. “Someone is always there for me at Loyola,” he told us recently, “whether it is a teacher, a friend or a guidance counselor.”
Zachary Aldana ‘12
Zach’s classmate, Germainy Deborah Mokeleba-Essalo ’12, was born in Central Africa. She came to the U.S. at the age of 11 and lives with her aunt in Chicago’s Roger’s Park neighborhood. Debbie struggled with the English language when she first arrived in the States, but language is now one of her favorite subjects at Loyola. A track athlete who trains hard so that she can earn an athletic scholarship to a good college, Debbie dreams of becoming an attorney one day and helping people in need. Zach and Debbie come from different cultures, communities and life circumstances. But they have one important thing in common: they wouldn’t be Ramblers without help from people like you. Each year, Annual Fund contributions from Loyola Academy parents, graduate parents, alumni and friends make it possible for hundreds of students like Zach and Debbie to reap the many benefits of a high quality, Jesuit, college preparatory education, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. Germainy Deborah Mokeleba-Essalo ‘12
But this is just one example of the good your gift can do.
Your Annual Fund contribution helps bridge the $2,500 gap between tuition fees and what it actually costs to educate every Loyola student. It also provides critically needed unrestricted support for capital and programmatic enhancements, classroom and technology updates, building maintenance and professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff. For all of these reasons, I urge you to renew your gift to the Annual Fund today. If you’ve never made an annual gift, now is a wonderful time to begin. Thank you for supporting our mission of Jesuit education and for keeping the dreams of young people like Zach and Debbie alive with your generous gift. May God be with you! Gratefully,
Rev. Patrick E. McGrath, S.J. President, Loyola Academy P.S. I hope you’ll take just a moment to look at the enclosed photo essays to see a day in the life of Zach Aldana and Debbie Mokeleba-Essalo. It is so gratifying for me to watch these two vibrant, talented and highly motivated Ramblers fulfilling their potential and achieving their dreams because of benefactors like you.
