AQUATIC INITIATIVE FUNDRAISING GOAL:
$9 MILLION
What is the Aquatic Initiative? It is one of six initiatives in the Second Century Campaign — an ambitious fundraising effort that will position Loyola Academy as the nation’s leading Jesuit, college-preparatory, faith and education center for the 21st century. The Aquatic Initiative will generate support for the development of a 21st century Aquatic Center with the following features: • A 10-lane IHSA competition-size pool • A diving well • IHSA-approved competition diving boards • A movable bulkhead • Locker rooms • Coaching offices • Public restrooms • A 600-seat spectator balcony • A visitor lobby • Monumental, glare-free exterior windows with a southern exposure to maximize daylight and minimize energy consumption • A two-story glass curtain wall that will enable spectators to view the swimming pool and diving boards from the Aquatic Center visitor lobby
Why has Loyola’s leadership identified an aquatic center as a strategic priority? For more than half a century, thousands of Ramblers have participated in Loyola’s award-winning swimming, diving and water polo programs — a rigorous and rewarding experience that has taught them to pursue excellence not only in the aquatic arena, but in the larger arena of life. Loyola has launched the Aquatic Initiative to enhance the aquatic experience of every Rambler, from the non-swimmer in need of basic water safety and swimming instruction to the recreational swimmer to the varsity team member.
