We Care Because You Care
At Jewish Family Service, we know that you are a big part of our success and effectiveness. And in 2022, we accomplished a lot together! Our Youth Mental Health Services continued to provide critical assistance to youth, teens, and young adults in Greater Cincinnati. By providing Youth Mental Health First Aid training to youth programs and day schools, we’ve expanded our capacity to help. When a need arises, a trained adult can step in with support. K’vod Connect has now reached and engaged with over 150 older adults who have struggled with the challenges of isolation. With the help of K’vod Connect, they are now deepening their relationships to the Jewish community. By kindling or rekindling these important connections, we not only help our older adults; we rediscover an amazing community resource. Also in 2022, we worked quickly to create our Crisis in Ukraine Community Hotline, a coordinated effort that helped individuals and families—both here and abroad—better navigate matters brought on by the war.
As we round the corner of our 79th year and head toward our 80th, our values of compassion, integrity, and excellence continue to guide us. During every one of our eight decades of service, we have been a valuable and integral part of our community. We offer premium and need-based professional social services to families and individuals in Greater Cincinnati. We help people from our diverse community and from every economic level—with professionalism and expertise. But most importantly: we care. We know that you care, too—our funders, volunteers, and donors are an amazingly compassionate group. With your support, we plan on caring for another 80 years.

2022 Stories of Impact
With Therapy, Jonathan Feels Better at School and Home
Jonathan (a composite to ensure anonymity) was an outgoing, music-loving Rockwern Academy student, but seemingly overnight, he became withdrawn, irritable, and barely engaged in his music. Jonathan’s parents and teachers suspected anxiety or depression. As part of the work being done through its Youth Mental Health Services (YMH), JFS had established a presence at Rockwern Academy. A YMH social worker met with Jonathan and his parents, and it helped. Jonathan is better. He is back to being himself.
Despite Being Homebound, Joanne Celebrates Passover
At 83, Joanne (a pseudonym) loves to sing, but she couldn’t fly to New York to celebrate Passover with her son and his family. She can’t even leave her apartment, due to worsening Parkinson’s. She could not shop for, or prepare, the Passover meal. JFS and its volunteers stepped up, providing a free, full Passover meal, so Joanne could celebrate via Zoom, singing “Dayenu” while enjoying a meal of her own.
JFS Helps People Affected by War in Ukraine
Jewish Family Service has historically played an important role in helping resettle Jewish emigrants from the former Soviet Union in Greater Cincinnati. As a result, thousands of local individuals and families were personally impacted when Russia invaded Ukraine. In response, JFS helped establish the Crisis in Ukraine Community Hotline to connect those living here with resources available to family and friends overseas. We also moderated two webinars that provided in-depth information and assistance. Our Russian Jewish Cultural Center helped significantly by providing translators for those in need.
