GIRL SCOUT TROOP 2356 SUPPORTS A PERSONAL CAUSE Successful Operation

“M y girls love it when a customer makes a donation to Operation Thin Mint, as one of them has a father in the military who has received cookies while overseas and has shared with them how special these donations are.” Robin Marsan, leader of Girl Scout Troop 2356, is talking about Girl Scout Brienna Stewart. Operation Thin Mint sends America’s favorite cookies and handwritten support notes to deployed U.S. military troops and local veterans. Girl Scouts San Diego teams up with cookie customers for this local program, developed by Girl Scouts San Diego in 2002. Since that time, generous San Diegans have donated more than three million boxes of cookies to service men and women – not just Thin Mints, but all cookie varieties! U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and National Guard personnel, current and former, receive the cookies at home and abroad, when serving in places like Afghanistan, Africa, Iraq, Japan, Korea, the South Seas, and aboard ships around the world… including an icebreaker in the Arctic Circle.

Cookie purchases and additional donations are tax deductible. Troop 2356 can earn a camp reward they’ve received in the past and hope to again this season. The girls have used their cookie earnings helping people who’ve lost their homes in wildfires, donating to organizations that help animals, bringing gifts to seniors during the holidays, and for field trips and camping trips. This year a special trip is planned to go to Las Vegas and the bridge at the Hoover Dam.

The Recording Arts Center at Studio West is pleased to announce that the year-long Diploma in Recording Arts program has been approved by the Department of Veterans Aff airs for VA funds. This means that The Recording Arts Center can continue to proudly serve veterans with the added benefi t of funding support for the program. While the lack of fund support has not stopped veterans from joining the Diploma program in the past, now the Studio is able to better support a wider range of vets in starting a career in the fi eld of audio engineering.

“The approval by the VA’s offi ce is a wonderful benefi t that we are extremely pleased to off er our veteran students,” Peter Dyson, owner of Studio West, said in a recent interview. “The Diploma in Recording Arts imparts so much useful knowledge and skill building that it has been a great way for our graduates to start a new career. That we are now able to off er it to more veterans with the support of their VA funds is amazing.”

With the majority of eligible graduates and alumni using their knowledge to pursue a career, the year-long Diploma program off ers a solid foundation for audio engineers. Classes are held in a worldclass studio and off er participants the chance to get hands-on experience in a professional environment.
