COULD YOU BE A Cyber Hero?

If you would like to help people learn how to protect themselves online then get involved with Get Safe Online writes Jackie Hoare from West Sussex County Council

Can you spare some time to help your community learn how to spot potential online scams, such as courier, romance, and banking fraud? West Sussex County Council, in partnership with Get Safe Online, is looking for volunteers from across the county to help educate and support residents to become safer online. You don’t have to be a digital expert, you just need a very basic understanding of the Internet and a passion to help others work, learn, and connect with each other as safely as possible.

Once trained by the experts from Get Safe Online, you’ll form

part of a new group of Digital Ambassadors and will be able to choose how you engage with your communities to get the online safety message out to local residents. This could include:  one-to-one advice You’ll form part of a sessions  hosting a webinar to new group of Digital share tips on how people Ambassadors can use the internet safely  or even giving out leaflets to residents in your local area. Training to become a Digital Ambassador will take place over two days in November 2021 and all materials will be provided, as well as ongoing mentoring and support to help you deliver advice effectively and confidently. l If becoming a Digital Ambassador seems like the volunteering role for you, please email communitysafety.wellbeing@westsussex.gov.uk to register your interest by 12pm on Monday 25th October 2021.
