Review by Lindsey Taylor
On a sunny autumnal afternoon, we had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Kinsbrook Farmhouse, at Kinsbrook Vineyard, Thakeham. The farmhouse, which is open every day, is set in a brand new barn with the ground floor consisting of a deli, farm shop and butcher, with a local Sussex province theme. The upper floor is a ‘laid back’ eatery, where we were warmly greeted and shown to our table next to the balcony with uninterrupted views of the stunning Kinsbrook Vineyard. The eatery has a relaxed feel, with exposed beams and a mixture of formal and cosy seating, with a log burner for those chillier days. We started with a glass of Kinsbrook’s first Vintage Cuvee (2014) and the KIN Beckett’s Rose (2016), which interestingly, Maria told us had more punch, just like Kinsbrook’s personality! What these sparkling wines demonstrate was just how amazing English wine producers have become, with the Vintage Cuvee delivering a stunning taste. The wines were paired with a sea salt and olive oil focaccia bread. Our favourite dish was the light and crispy, purple sprouting broccoli tempura with a velvety smooth tarragon aioli for dipping. We also enjoyed the Spanish Marcona almonds - very moreish! We then went on to sample four of Kinsbrook’s vintage still wines. We particularly enjoyed the KIN Pinot Gris (2020) which was absolutely superb – incredibly drinkable and with a smoothness that’s hard to put into words – you simply have to try it! The Bacchus was every bit as delicious, with a rich scent of elderflower which comes through into the taste. Lunch is served Wed-Sun 12-3pm, brunch is also offered over the weekend, as well as wine tasting and tours. www.kinsbrookvineyard.com
