VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES We have over 250 volunteering opportunities registered with us of which most recruit all year round. This week we registered the following new volunteering placements with us:
1) Cricket Club Fundraising Manager with Sussex Cricket Board (560) The Sussex Cricket Board, in association with Sussex County Cricket Club, is responsible for the development of all forms of cricket across the county. You will be volunteering on behalf of Palmers Cricket Club, Hove who are a cricket club offering recreational cricketing opportunities to all people in the local area, and with whom the Sussex Cricket Board work to support and develop. Your role is to identify different funding streams in order to support the development of the Palmers Cricket Club. Tasks include: To understand the financial requirements of the club; To obtain financial and in kind sponsorship; To utilise existing ECB partnerships i.e. through CricketForce; To identify all funding possibilities, ranging from match day opportunities to larger fundraising events; To seek alternative external funding opportunities e.g. Local Authority, Sport England, County Sports Partnerships, www.fundrazor.com, Charitable trusts etc. 2) Youth Ranger with Sussex Wildlife Trust (561) The aim of the trust is to conserve the Sussex landscape, wildlife and its habitats, and to use its knowledge and expertise to help the people of Sussex to enjoy, understand and take action to this end. You will engage in a variety of activities: fire lighting, bushcraft and green woodworking, tool use, planting and composting, meadow planting, surveying and monitoring wildlife, pond maintenance, enhancing habitats,
coppicing, bird/bat boxes, toad abodes, hedge planting, vegetable growing and hurdle making. In addition, you may be involved in the development of the project's wildlife garden in Stanmer Park. This can involve meadow planting and maintenance, orchard planting, hedge laying, monitoring wildlife and much more.
3) Student Ambassadors with Right To Play (562) Right To Play is the worlds leading sport for development charity. They operate sport for development programmes in some of the most disadvantaged areas around the world. These sustainable and inclusive programmes improve and develop children through the fun and engaging medium of sport. Trained local's teach the children everything from basic education to the importance of disease prevention and health and hygiene. As a Student Ambassador for Right To Play you will be required to learn more about Right To Play and sport for development; will be involved in raising funds by putting on events; raising awareness for Right To Play; and act as a link between Right To Play and the University. It is a role you should take great pride in and be motivated to put in as much as you can. Every event you put on would be greatly valued by Right To Play and the money raised would make a real difference to children’s lives - it only costs £25 to send a child to a Right To Play programme twice weekly for a year. Volunteering takes place largely on campus.
NOW RECRUITING! Projects registered with us either recruit volunteers all year round or at particular times of the year. The following projects have been in touch with us recently to advise that they are currently recruiting: 1) MIND Resource Room (114): The Mind Resource Room Project is an information and advice project based in Mill View Psychiatric hospital. It offers impartial independent advice & info on a range of issues such as diagnosis, medication, employment, local services and legal rights. It also has computers that clients can use to access the Internet, etc. The Resource Room is primarily for inpatients who can come in for a quiet space away from the wards or to have a cuppa and a chat.
Recruitment is generally once a year: next recruitment from 22/11/10, application closing date, 10th Dec, short-listing 13th Dec, interviewing 20th/22nd Dec. 2) Allsorts (99): A project where volunteers help staff to run a supportive dropin spce for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and unsure young people. Young people can access information & support, meet other LGBT young people and participate in a range of activities designed to promote their wellbeing. Currently recruiting LGBT drop-in volunteers: application deadline of 31/12/10 and interviews and induction training in January/February 2011. 3) Adventure Unlimited (552): Adventure Unlimited was founded in 1977 and is based in Brighton and Hove and on the South coast of England. They run outdoor activities, such as kayaking and climbing at a number of venues across the south-east, with children and young people. The activities are focused on the development of life skills and ensuring that everyone can achieve, whilst having lots of fun. The project's mission is to enrich the lives of young people, in particular those from disadvantaged backgrounds, through outdoor adventure and education events, run by previously unemployed adults. The project operates day events and camps for up to 6000 individuals each year. Currently recruiting Events Officers to assist and run fundraising events. No application deadline. 4) Guide Dogs for the Blind: Guide Dogs empowers visually impaired people to do that and relies on the support of the public to fund its services: the project breeds and trains guide dogs which provide life changing mobility and there are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK. 4 volunteer roles available: 538 (Payroll Ambassador); 539 (Media Assistant); 540 (Event Helper); 541 (Volunteer recruitment Ambassador). No application deadline.

Also, if we have contacted you by e-mail to advise you that we have passed on your contact details to the project that you wish to volunteer with, AND you have already waited 7 working days to hear back from them, but have not heard anything, please remember to let us know so that we can chase it up.
