ABOUT AIRDRIE

• As one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, with a population of 61,581 people living in an estimated 21,661 homes.

• First established as a railway village in the 1880s during the construction of the Edmonton-Calgary rail, Airdrie is a bedroom community a mere 6 kilometers north of the city of Calgary accessible by Highway 2, and is only 20 minutes from the Calgary International Airport.

• Known for combining big city amenities with a small town atmosphere,

Airdrie is a safe and friendly city that predominantly attracts young, active

families. Its proximity to the urban centre of Calgary makes it an ideal choice for north east commuters, and a number of shopping and leisure destinations are available right within Airdrie’s city limits.

• The business community in Airdrie is centred around the construction, manufacturing, transportation and logistics industries, and the city also has a fast growing service economy. Airdrie provides a number of retail outlets and services to a trading area comprising over 60,000 people. The primary commercial area can be found along Main Street, and is anchored at each end with major shopping and commercial centres.

• With over 570 acres of park land and 36 kilometers of paved multi-use pathways and trails, Airdrie residents have the opportunity to live in and enjoy the natural beauty of southern Alberta where the foothills meet the prairies. Popular recreational facilities include the Plainsmen and Twin

Arenas; Genesis Place, which includes two field houses, a large gymnasium, a pool area, and an indoor running track; a large BMX track and club in Fletcher Park; and a wide range of outdoor athletic parks, sports fields, playgrounds and a splash park.

• The city has an excellent education system serving over 3,500 students

with public, private, Catholic and French Immersion schooling options.
