innovation meets artwork
Inside a small, unassuming New York flat, one man crafted his own artistic language. Using an innovative “print-painting” technique, he layered translucent inks onto delicate Japanese paper panels, which were joined to create luminous, large-scale works. His unprecedented approach to abstract expressionism earned him a distinct place in the history of modern art and his works have entered the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection. This artist was
Sam Glankoff.
Inspired by his art’s bold brushstrokes, primordial symbols and richly complex surfaces, Perennials is bringing Glankoff’s innovations to the fore, interpreting his masterpieces in hand-knotted rugs.
gallery meets modern life
The Art of Glankoff rugs reflect the beauty of the artist Sam Glankoff’s original works and offer all the benefits of Perennials’ solution-dyed acrylic yarns. Art that was once found only in galleries is now durable enough to withstand the messiness of modern life— including wine spills and a child’s sticky fingers.
The collection’s four designs were created in collaboration with The Sam Glankoff SGW Collections. Perennials carefully translated the artist’s innovative techniques from paper to yarn, capturing subtle blends from Glankoff’s original color charts and intricate surface details, such as seam lines from the paper panels of Glankoff’s print-paintings.
Each Perennials Art of Glankoff rug stands as a work of art in its own right. However, this art doesn’t require a gallery wall; its soft, thick pile naturally
resists stains, fading and mildew. This is artwork designed for modern living.

Wendy Snyder, the director of the Sam Glankoff Estate and creative force behind The Sam Glankoff SGW Collections, worked closely with the artist for years — studying his methods, recording their conversations and curating Glankoff’s first solo exhibition. In his penultimate works, Glankoff altered his signature SG imprint to SGW, adding the “W” for Wendy.
