RATHOD RESIDENCE Located in an upscale neighborhood of Juhu in Mumbai, this 30,000 sq.ft expansive private residence, spread across 4 floors exudes luxury in every aspect. Conceptualized in a classical style each room in this house has its own distinct personality. The multiple terraces and planter beds bring in lots of greenery, ensuring a very good connectivity with nature. The central courtyard covered with a glass roof, brings in abundant daylight and is the most sought after place in the house. It binds the entire house together creating a very good interconnectivity between the different levels.

Joining the project at a stage when maximum designing was already complete was quite challenging in terms of understanding the spaces due to the scale. But over time the process proved to be a very good experience. Regular interactions with all the different agencies, suppliers and contractors has helped a lot to understand the process in detail. Facing the onsite challenges during execution with a proactive approach was one of the best experiences of working on this project. However this experience comes with lots of learning in terms of the details and exposure to a broad spectrum of materials.

MUDRIKA LABELS The wood and glass partition, which continues along the entire length of this 1450 sq.ft office space spread across two levels is the most striking element. This partition features an aesthetic combination of different textured glasses, that effectively encloses the conference room and 2 director’s cabin from the staff area on the other side.

SHUKLA RESIDENCE The greatest challenge while designing this 1,300 sq ft duplex apartment was to reuse all the old furniture to meet the present requirements. Being on a tight budget, all the selections of materials and furnishings has been thoughtfully done to minimize the wastage.

The external door with metal grill opens up to beautiful carved wooden has been upcycled from

a geometric reveal a tall handle, that an old sofa.

To provide a contrast to the clean white walls, a random combination of 3 tiles-dark grey, light grey and beige has been used across the entire floor, creating a statement that is very striking and whimsical. Different accents of client’s favorite blue color, in the form of laminates, upholstery and paint adds a very strong character to the entire space. 17

Series of vertical metal pipes which beautifully fits inside the white arch, not only secures the staircase but also acts a good backdrop to the sofa, retaining the openness of the space. The L shaped wall that starts from the main entry and continues till the powder room is panelled with wood textured cement fiber boards. This wall houses the sliding door to kitchen, the dining cabinet and conceals the powder room door within the vertical grooves. 18

19

The gorgeous blue sliding door that acts as a statement piece leads to the son’s bedroom 1. The space next to it, below the staircase flight is used as a secondary seating area with an upcycled sofa bed and an orange painted metal trunk side table to contrast the greys and blue. 20

The black and white chevron flooring, with baby pink wall cladding paired with a dark peacock green paint adorns the powder bathroom. In fact all the bathrooms in the home were very small, so a conscious effort was made to keep it light. The pattern flooring with some accent color element brings in a lot of character to the space.

SIXTH FLOOR PLAN

21

The blue panelled wall in the son’s bedroom 1 is the most striking element. Alternate bands of grey and white laminate has been used on wardrobe shutters. The console next to the bed has been upcycled, and doubles up as study table when needed. Bright yellow painted bookshelf next to the window seat along with the upholstered leather chair, accentuates the aesthetics of the space.

22

23

The staircase is very well lit and the small space by the window was client’s favorite corner since the very beginning. To make this space accessible a narrow passage was created without compromising the headroom below. The Jaisalmer stone flooring, metal and wood railing binds the entire staircase space together making it the most striking feature in this home. The foliage of the trees outside the windows, ambient sunlight and ventilation gives a feel of an extended garden, making this reading corner the most sought after space. 24

The geometric pattern tiles inspired from old temples separates the mandir space from the rest of the staircase. This space features a beautiful red sandalwood mandir, cherry wood laminate ceiling and brass accessories which accentuates the palette. The partition with laser cut motifs and brass bells creates a visual barrier between the mandir and laundry space next to it. Opposite the mandir there is a small extended seating space which can accommodate 4-6 persons during some puja/bhajan.

25

Son’s bedroom 2 is dressed in wooden tile flooring, tan leather headboard and grey wainscoting which forms a perfect backdrop to the orange tv console. Metal balusters of the old staircase railing has been reused as the legs of the console.

26

27

The master bedroom features a bed back frame which has been added to achieve the look of a two poster bed. The peacock green painted wall and plum upholstery adds a good contrast to the muted palette of grey, beige and wood. The space opens up to a terrace with extensive greenery outside, that offers a great sense of interaction with nature. Built-in granite seating, patterned tiles and rigato finish wall cladding makes the terrace a perfect cozy spot for the entire family to relax.

28

29

SEN RESIDENCE There are lots of constraints while designing your own home on a very limited budget. Reusing old furnitures plays a very crucial role here. The yellow painted tv unit has been made using the materials of an existing cabinet. By simply painting and adding a leather cushion, an old metal trunk was converted to a beautiful seating for the balcony. The dining table and chairs were painted in shades of yellow and blue to give a fresh look. Both the bedrooms were revamped by simply painting the existing furnitures and adding some new upholstery.

30

31

MUKHOPADHYAY HOUSE The gorgeous black entry door of this 820 sq ft apartment is inspired from old Victorian arched doors. To achieve this look, the external frame has been projected out with a corbelled molding that continues as an arch at the top. The dummy metal grill with the mirror panelling inside the arch has been added to give an illusion of a window. The horizontal panelled cement fiber board with artificial plants and accessories brings in lot of character to the boring entrance lobby. The main entry does not open into the living area directly, instead there is a small passage which was indeed a blessing. This space has been converted to a beautiful waiting area with a leather upholstered metal chair and cluster of frames on the adjacent wall for displaying family pictures/artwork.

32

The open plan accommodates the living area, dining and kitchen that opens up to a small landscaped terrace with a mandir. The slatted wall panel continues from the waiting area till the kitchen window, and from the tv unit till the terrace, on the opposite side. These panels seamlessly conceals the two bedroom doors within the grooves.

The living area features a palette of slate grey tiles, oak veneer complemented with grey and blue upholstery. A Jaipur Rugs carpet and custom made marble top coffee tables adorns the space. The marble cladded island kitchen counter, which is supported on a metal pipe at one end also serves as a dining table. The same flooring and slatted wall panelling has been continued in the terrace, which makes the space appear much bigger than actually it is. The mandir shutters have been panelled with bevelled mirrors that reflects the greenery and landscape outside, creating a significant impact on the overall feel of the space. 35

The master bedroom exudes a sense of coziness with the dark painted walls and wood tile flooring. Wardrobe shutters and doors have a typical French molding detail, and has been painted the same color as that of the wall. The soft pink upholstery blends flawlessly with the dĂŠcor of the room. Continuing the same flooring in the balcony gives the sense of a bigger space. To contrast the wooden flooring and black granite seating, pattern tiles from Timex ceramics has been used. Master bathroom features a simple palette of grey terrazzo tiles, small white square tiles, statuario marble and some wood accent. 36

37

The striking feature in the son’s bedroom is the significant presence of green color which has been beautifully paired with black hardwares. Dash dot series cement tiles from Bharat flooring brings in lot of character to the place. The bed has been finished in oak veneer with a custom upholstered winged headboard. The wall adjacent to the entry door features a wainscoting panel finished in white paint, which complements the grey wall above. The bathroom looks glamourous with glossy black subway, terrazzo and corten steel tiles. 38

LAYOUT PLAN

The client wanted to transform this 645 sq.ft 2bhk to a lavish 1bhk apartment. Being a very small house, optimization of space was top priority. 40

The entrance lobby is very narrow, with an adjacent apartment door just next to the entry. To make space for an additional shoe cabinet, the dining area wall has been taken down. The entry door features wooden slats with a metal grill and the adjacent wall is cladded with techlam slim tiles. The living room is extremely small, due to this reason one of the wall has been panelled with mirror that doubles up the space making it look much bigger.

41

A wood tile flooring laid in herring bone pattern has been used throughout the living room, kitchen and den area. Different shades of green used in the living area and the kitchen gives the space a very soothing feel. There is a built-in cabinet in the dining which has multiple usage. It has a small serving counter, storage for crockeries and other miscellaneous items, encloses a rainwater pipe and also serves as an additional shoe storage. The custom made dining table with metal legs and marble fits perfectly in the space. Legs of the chairs has been painted red, which adds a dash of color to the space.

The yellow overhead cabinets in the kitchen gives a good contrast to the green tile and black countertop. The space opens up to a balcony which houses the laundry and janitor storage. The yellow overhead cabinets in the kitchen gives a good contrast to the green tile and black countertop. The space opens up to a balcony which houses the washing machine and janitor storage. A small marble top mandir counter is placed in passage that leads to the den. It is finished in dark veneer with brass accessories. The den area is an informal space which the client wanted, to entertain their close group of friends and family. It has a cozy low height sofa that opens up to form a double bed, giving a very snug vibe to the space. The multipurpose storage cabinet and the study painted entirely in a blue shade, adds a bold statement to space.

42

43

44

The master bedroom features a classic metal four poster bed with a red headboard. The bold tropical print wallpaper, offers not just a refreshing contrast against the black and white striped floor but also brings in lot of drama to the space. The bathroom door and wardrobe shutters are concealed within the veneer panels, giving a seamless appearance. Continuing the same flooring in the bathroom gives a feel of a bigger space. 45

DUTTA RESIDENCE The interiors of this bedroom has been designed, such that it blends with the existing wooden tile flooring. Due to very less natural light, the walls have been kept bare white to make the space look bright. French moulding panels aesthetically breaks the monotony of these plain walls with a classic touch. The bold emerald green headboard with the warm greys sets up the mood for the space.
