London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017
WGSN
During the Spring/Summer 2017 London Fashion Week, several color themes dominated street style. Most of these colors were shown as monochromatic ensembles and varied in silhouette. From neutrals to statement colors, I think how these color palettes are equally striking and beautiful.
WGSN
The first color palette includes soft grey, cream, and oyster. These soft neutrals were in combination with oversized and often layered silhouettes. I think these gentle colors sophisticate the slouchy styles shown on the London streets. These silhouettes perfectly merge elegance with comfort, creating a new classic look.

Bright, loud “poppy red” was also worn head to toe during London Fashion Week. This bold red was shown in a multitude of pieces including knitwear, outerwear, and separates. I think poppy red is the perfect tone of red. It is brilliant, cheery, and I think it’s a color that looks stunning on every woman. In a way, this color, although quite a statement, is timeless. How these women executed poppy red gives a new freshness to the color.

Rich, inky blues also dominated the streets of London. This midnight blue updates navy from a neutral color to a statement color. I believe it’s a sophisticated and fresh way to dress in dark tones while bringing interest to these silhouettes. In addition, I find it interesting that this midnight blue is often shown in textiles with a sheen. To me, the sheen adds depth to the color because of how it captures light.

Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 On the streets of Milan’s Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week, jewel tone and metallic garments made bold, sophisticated statements. Much like in London, these ensembles were often monochromatic, which I think is both innovative and chic. In contrast, a more youthful embellishment was made to denim through the addition of decorative patches. These patches are used both as statements and as a way to elaborately embellish denim.

First up is rich, deep emerald green. This tone of green takes this color that is usually associated with spring and summer to a fresh, sophisticated option for this current Autumn/Winter season. Deep emerald in combination with smart tailoring, results in an overall crisp, beautiful look. I believe that emerald is a great color for this current season. In addition, I think that it will prove to be an essential transition color into the Spring/Summer 2017 season, especially when paired with pastels.

Shown in a variety of finishes and textures, the color silver also made an appearance on the streets of Milan. In general, most displays of silver were metallic with shine varying from a high-shine mirrored finish to a subtle, almost matte finish. In my opinion, I think adding shine to silver and grey is an excellent way to elevate this neutral, and I believe this metallic was shown in pieces that could easily be for day or evening.

New types of decorative patches were seen on denim during Milan Fashion Week. For example, bold graphic patches continue to be used on denim, however, there has been a shift to patches and embroideries that create a cleaner look. Instead of bold patches inundating denim garments, only one or two elegant and thoughtful patches per piece were observed. Personally, I am not a huge fan of patches on denim. However, I think I like this shift to using one or two truly meaningful patches because it elevates and sophisticates the trend while remaining youthful and fun.

Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 In Paris during the Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week, the streets were flooded with several very different and unique trends. These fashion trends ranged from futuristic pieces to retro athletic wear to romantic lace. Although distinctly different from each other, these looks collectively showed the elevated sense of style that Paris is known for.

Futuristic metallic pieces were unexpectedly paired with casual staples such as the graphic tee. This science-fiction inspired look is driven by crinkled textures and embellished textiles to add visual interest to the surface of these pieces. I love this idea of high-low dressing by paring such an impactful statement piece with something as simple as a white or graphic tee. I think WGSN the two elements balance each other out, allowing for a casual formal outfit or a formal casual outfit depending on where it’s worn. WGSN

WGSN Similar to how futuristic garments were paired with everyday basics, retro active wear pieces were worn with high-fashion pieces on Parisian streets. Bold colors, stripes, oversized silhouettes and logos evoke a sense of nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s. Retro active pieces have been seen in streetwear before, but in Paris, I think it has been elevated even higher because of the unique paring with high-fashion items.

High-neck blouses made entirely of detailed, romantic lace were styled with casual trousers and denim during Paris Fashion Week. The overly feminine ruffles and pastel color palette were balanced by the casual, almost carefree styling. Like with the other two trends, I think fashion-forward Parisians once again mastered high-low dressing with this trend. These stylish women have taken lace, a textile generally associated with special occasions, to the streets tremendously dressing it down, and personally, I think it’s brilliant.

SãO Paulo Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017 During São Paulo’s Autumn/Winter 2017 Fashion Week, street style showcased several adaptations of monochromatic ensembles. In contrast, bold and bright statement pieces and outfits were also worn by these fashionable women. Color palettes were one extreme or the other with very little in between allowing for some interesting outfits.

Women of São Paulo adorned themselves with bright and quirky prints, colors, textures, and patterns during Fashion Week. These loud and fun elements appeared both through garments and through accessories. This trend is for both the young and the young at heart. Personally, I probably would not partake in this wild trend, however, I certainly love the brilliant and beautiful colors. I think this trend truly allows for personal expression, especially if your personality could be described as wild, fun, and fearless!

In contrast, a chic yet equally as bold, monochromatic color palette dominated the streets of SĂŁo Paulo. Although these ensembles were only in black and white, this brought attention to the proportions and silhouette of the garments and outfits as a whole. In my opinion, I always gravitate towards black and white because of how they can transform any look into a timeless look. In addition, the simple color scheme is not only chic, but I think it also allows the eye to observe equally the color and shape of the outfit.

Playing off of the minimalistic monochromatic trend, all-white ensembles were also seen during São Paulo’s Fashion Week. This trend utilized mostly gauzy textiles as well as shirting fabrics to create a light and airy look. Stark white, ivory, and cream were used together in outfits and blended well for simple ensembles. Although I’m not drawn to the gauzy fabrics, but I do love the shirting fabrics used. However, when the sheer textiles were used, I did like how they were worn in combination with other textiles and how that created both a mismatched and unified look. Overall, I think these all-white looks are clean, simple, and easy for anyone to wear.

Asia Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017 Several trends reemerged with a fresh twist on the streets of Seoul, South Korea, Shanghai, China, and Tokyo, Japan during Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week. Among these trends were reimagined menswear ensembles, the classic mini skirt worn with over-the-knee boots, and fishnet tights under annihilated denim.
WGSN Tailored suiting was given a feminine twist during Asia Fashion Week. Shoulders were strong yet petite, and most pants had either a cropped, flared leg featuring a slit or were wide leg. In addition, the jacket appeared to be worn alone as a top, as blouses were not visible underneath them. I think this is a fresh take on classic menswear. To me, these suits are both feminine yet are strong and crisp; I especially love the deep red velvet ensemble.

On the streets of Asia Fashion Week, the classic mini skirt was seen styled with over-the-knee boots as well as oversized sweatshirts and jackets. The pairing of mini skirts with tall boots put a focus on proportion. Personally, I have seen this look starting to pop up among fashionable celebrities as well as street style in the United States. I think this paring is an interesting way to wear a mini skirt without showing a lot of skin.

Fishnet tights also made a reappearance during Asia Fashion Week. However, fishnets were not worn on their own, instead, they were seen worn under denim. The denim featured extreme distressing with some pairs featuring the complete annihilation of one leg. I think this combination of intensely destroyed denim and fishnet tights takes the grunge look to a whole new level. It adds even more visual interest to the already unique ways of distressing denim.
