Handi Quilter Education Event February 19 & 20, 2016 Handi Quilter Educator Susan Jungerheld Susan Jungerheld has owned a longarm quilting business and a Handi Quilter machine since 2008. She loves free-motion and ruler-assisted quilting using her HQ24 Fusion®, and proudly quilts for local quilt shops, her customers, and charities. Susan began teaching both piecing and quilting in local quilt shops, and now is thrilled to share her knowledge and experience with quilters everywhere as a Handi Quilter National Educator. Susan is an award-winning quilter, with several quilts featured in Quilt Trends magazine. Before working professionally in the quilting industry, Susan worked in counseling, education, customer service, and received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Originally from Pennsylvania, Susan has also lived in several other states, Germany, and Ireland. She and her husband reside in New York state and have two college-age children.

Class fee $25.00 per session includes lunch.

Friday, February 19 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. - Free Motion Quilting Fun Quilters everywhere LOVE the excitement and fun of free motion quilting, and it’s easier than you think! Create flowing designs by connecting simple design elements with continuous lines, traveling across the quilt or filling in specific area. Learn how drawing and muscle memory contribute to beautiful free motions quilting, and how to can create stunning designs without being a natural artist. 1:00– 4:00 p.m. - Ruler Mania If you love precision and consistency in your quilting designs, you will love using design rulers and templates! These handy tools assist in placing designs accurately and stitching them out precisely. Learn to handle rulers and templates safely with the ruler base, and how to achieve accuracy with the markings. The wide variety of Handi Quilter rulers will inspire you to design heights. Saturday, February 20 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. 3 B’s—Backgrounds, Borders and Blocks Blocks, backgrounds, sashings and borders—these are the basic components of every pieced quilt top, and there are tricks to quilting them differently while creating a cohesive overall look. Learn how to select and adapt designs to complement each area, and how to accomplish the quilting efficiently and easily. Tried and true filler and “go to” designs will be featured. 1:00—4:00 p.m. - Crossover Quilting: Modern Meets Traditional Modern quilts have several general characteristics: expansive “negative” space, contemporary design, no borders, symmetrical elements, improvisational piecing. Learn how to adapt traditional quilt designs to modern quilts, using modern tools to create special effects with geometric shapes and updated design elements.
