Meet:

Hello Tinder Fans.

Tinder can easily be linked to your Facebook profile, so make sure you haven’t got a group photo as your profile pic or you’ll be disappearing before you know it. While you can click onto someone’s profile and view more, few people have much information on themselves (apart from the occasional snap chat name or Twitter to follow) so it’s best to give yourself a hot shot. But what the hell do you want to be seen wearing? Will that photo of you sitting outside a nightclub with a kebab really find you the man you’re looking for?

12

Well, it could if he likes his takeaways. After a few weeks of using the app myself I found out a load of handy tips that can help you with your own profile while eliminating the frogs and finding your prince (if you’re a little more serious about dating!)

2 3 4 5 6

1

Rockerbox is the new clothing app that’ll help you shop while you’re lying in bed. And who doesn’t want to have bought a whole new wardrobe by 11am? Unless you’ve been hiding away in a dark room for the past few months then you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say the word ‘Tinder’. But now the time has come for the fashion world to get involved, enter Rockerbox, the fashion alternative that’ll empty your purse and fill up your wardrobe. Simply choose a category (accessories, boots, blazers, clutches etc) and swipe left if it’s a no-go and right if it takes your fancy. Gradually the app will customize what to show you, making picking your next outfit easy peasy.

Have at least three photos. One in a massive group of people will not make you stand out and anything fuzzy will not be helping anyone.

Smile in your photo, nobody likes a miserable sod. If you’ve got a set of pearly whites then show them off and contrast yourself against that bright red dress you love.

Write something about yourself, but remember it’s not a CV and you’re not writing a book. Don’t wear anything too revealing or you’ll be getting yeses for all the wrong reasons.

Words: Suzie Kidger

If you haven’t already joined Tinder and you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, let us tell you all about it. Tinder, the app available on both iPhone and Android, has to be one of the easiest ways of dating there is. Simply see one main display photo and click yes or no, if you click no you’ll see them disappear into dating oblivion, but if you like them and they like you back, cha-ching. But, the real question is, how do you want to come across?

Don’t use a photo of you and someone who is clearly your ex, nobody wants to see that. Remember, it’s all about aesthetics. Wear something colourful but not crazy, smile but don’t look insane. And if you have a dog, hug it, everyone likes cute photos like that.

Its purpose: To make mobile shopping easy and fun. The app is free on the app store, but we can assure you the clothes aren’t.

Do you love trying out a new look and keeping up with all the latest trends? Well so do we, which is why our team here at Lust Have went to talk to Alexandra Metcalfe about her popular fashion brand, StaySick..

Words: Hannah Wallis

STAY

SICK

StaySick clothing is a UK based fashion line, and if you haven’t already heard of it or seen its designs I can guarantee you are missing out! The one of a kind brand was founded by Glasgow born 24-yearold, Alexandra Metcalfe who lives and breathes StaySick. The incredible collections consist of neon high waisted bikinis, skin-tight unitards, crazy patterned leggings, two pieces and more. StaySick gives you that little bit of something different and will have you standing out. The pieces Alexandra designs are kept unique and can even be altered just for you! As Alexandra says, her designs aren’t for the shy girl that doesn’t want to be noticed.

17

From the age of 16, Alexandra knew exactly what she wanted from life, “I craved to just get out of school and start making clothes, it was all I wanted,” Alex explains. “I got into the Cardonald College to study fashion then went to Edinburgh College of Art to study a degree in women’s wear.” Although, Alexandra dropped out of her degree early she says it was the best decision she had made or she wouldn’t have pursued StaySick. “Leaving my degree was just what I needed; I was dying of utter boredom in my part-time job and was always itching for more.”

18

www.lusthavemag.co.uk 19

StaySick all began through one pair of customised Levi 501s. It was only an idea but Alexandra’s vision to dress other girls who also struggled like herself to find unique clothes began the phenomenon of StaySick. “One day I was browsing at customized Levis in the US, they were coming up hundreds of dollars, I knew I could make them no bother, made some and put them on Facebook and the rest is history.” Alexandra then found her mail box flooding with girls begging her to make them a pair. The 24-year-old follows pop culture and likes to keep fashion clippings all over her workspace to give herself influences to design her designs. StaySick is bright, young, simple and hot. It is designed with clubbers, ravers, holiday makers and festival goers in mind. “I always design with myself in mind and what I would want to wear.” Alexandra explains. “I ALWAYS have to like my styles, if it gets to launch day and I’m not sure about them, they are gone!” “I love all my styles but I definitely love the new bikinis and bodysuits I’ve been working on for the summer, they make your boobs look great (which is always a bonus)!” Alexandra told us. It is every designers dream to see their favourite celebrity wearing their brand and it is no exception for Alexandra. “I’d love to see Rihanna in my designs, she looks amazing in everything she wears and I love her attitude.

20

“Imagine Rihanna in StaySick, I’d probably die! That would be a story I wouldn’t get sick of telling.” StaySick has over 6,000 followers on Instagram and with the brand continuing to grow ever popular what does the future hold for StaySick? “I’m looking to get myself a factory and start branching out into wholesale so everyone has their own bit of StaySick.” After designing hundreds and hundreds of different garments with different patterns and different styles you’d think Alexandra would be stuck on what to make next, but no, her head is full of new designs she just cannot wait to start making. With summer coming up it is time to start designing forsummer 2014 and Alexandra is not holding back. “The summer range will have your perfect must haves for your summer,” Alexandra explains, “Whether it is from relaxing in Dubai to partying in Ibiza I will have something perfect for you. Think lots of colour and lots and lots of skin.” We are definitely excited about what StaySick will have for us this summer. And with a busy schedule right now and an extremely busy year ahead, were hoping to see a lot more of StaySick and what the future holds for the brand.

BOY FRIEND STYLE

As much as you love him, do you sometimes wish you could change your boyfriend’s sense of style? Well here at Lust Have we know exactly how you feel, so we decided to perform the perfect boyfriend makeover to give you some tips.

28

www.lusthavemag.co.uk 29

So, time to be honest with us: Is your style choice influenced by others around you, or purely your own decision?

“I HATE myself with a tucked in shirt - it makes me look like such a helmet...”

That’s when we decided that if we girls at Lust Have think so negatively about guys fashion, how do all of the university girlfriends feel? Would they change their boyfriend’s style if they were allowed to? Or is style just not an issue for them? We decided it would be a great idea to test the boundaries of men’s style and bought a student couple into the studios along with a student stylist to create the ultimate boyfriend makeover! Both aged 19, Kristie Raymond and Jorge Leis met two years ago in sixth form – currently at Southampton Solent University, Kristie 30

Ok, well let’s try to change your mind! Is there anything specifically that you wouldn’t want us to dress you in?

only gets to see Jorge on a monthly basis due to his education being based in the city of Madrid. It must be love!

“I HATE myself with a tucked in shirt – it makes me look like such a helmet.. Other than that I’m not too bothered, hopefully no pink enters the equation either!”

When we met the pair, a rather smug looking Kristie paraded through the studio greeting everyone with a smile, Jorge on the other hand was not looking to smug – in fact he did not look impressed at all! He wore an interesting choice of a maroon coloured jumper with the printed phrase of ‘Cocaine & Caviar,’ along with black skinny jeans, a green snap back and of course he had a typical sleeve tattoo. He looked the ultimate lad of 2014! Before the shoot we sat poor Jorge down, fed him biscuits to try and cheer him up and then asked him a few questions:

Hi Jorge, how are you feeling about being here? (He laughed) “Let’s just say this wasn’t on the top of my list of things to do today – but if it proves to Kristie that I actually have a great sense of style then I am up for anything.” Well we have a great makeover set up for you, it won’t be too painful!

After photographing the few shots of Jorge in his typical daywear, our fab student stylist Jenny Rumbold began her magic. She exchanged his big baggy jumper for a smart casual checked shirt which covered his tattoo smothered arm. She then removed his informal snap back, fixed his hair and replaced his ‘new balance’ trainers for a stylish pair of black leather boots. Surprisingly she kept the black skinnys! Words & Photographhy: Emily Whitwam

It’s no secret that the current generation of Uni students throw a unique twist on fashion, the majority of the girls seem to enjoy mixing it up and being ‘original’. However the guys tell a different story, being original is not their trademark but they certainly do cast a twist on fashion. All wearing skinny jeans and snapbacks, admittedly the majority of them are looking like they have walked straight out of Saved by the Bell. But being the modern bunch that this generation of lads are, half of them add a sleeve of tattoos to these quirky outfits just to mix it up a bit! Bizarre!

“Obviously if a trend is spreading its appealing to wear it because it looks good. But what I buy to wear is completely my own decision no one else’s – I like my clothes! I really don’t think there is going to be much that you can dress me in that’s going to change my opinion, the stuff I wear is chilled and stylish which is perfect for me.”

Jorge had been transformed into what we would call a perfectly dressed boyfriend! He oozed sophistication from head to toe, and looked as though he had walked straight out of a Ralph Lauren ad! He tried to remain adamant that this new found model chic look just wasn’t for him but eventually he let his ladish guard down and admitted the undeniable truth – he looked hot!

www.lusthavemag.co.uk 31

So Jorge you look great, how do you feel in your new look? “I didn’t want to admit it but I do feel alright yeah. When she dressed me I didn’t particularly warm to the outfit, however dressing smarter surprisingly does change your attitude! I genuinely feel a bit better about myself and am beginning to warm to the shirt! I do look alright don’t I?”

WHAT THE GIRLS HAD TO SAY:

We said you would! Did you enjoy being behind the camera? “Not at first, no. But as I got used to it I felt more comfortable posing and stuff like that. Plus you lovely ladies made me feel so much at ease!” (laughs) Charmer! And finally, will this ‘new you’ be a permanent thing? Erm, I definitely don’t think that my snap back will be going in the bin any time soon. But I think it would be nice to dress up every now and then, especially when me and Kristie go out somewhere nice, I know she would really like that! I won’t banish any of my current outfits but maybe I’ll buy a couple more shirts to add to the collection.” Well we all think Jenny did an excellent job and Jorge came away looking fab! Hopefully he will take some pointers and adjust his wardrobe to make him stand out a bit from the sheepish crowd.. With a spring in their step the couple left the studio like they were on their first date. Our mission was complete!

32

Stylist Jenni said: “I wanted Jorge to feel comfortable so kept him in his own jeans, jeans can be very important to men! The shirt wasnt too OTT because of the quirky checked patter which I love, its really in this season! I thought he looks so much better wuthout the hat, you could seehis amazing bonestructure! Thats really something to show off!”

Girlfriend Kristie said: “Bless him, I was so proud of him for actually going through with the makeover, I know he didnt really want to!But he looks incredible and I knwthat he feels confident in the clothes he was put in. I cant wait to go shopping with him now; hopefully he will be a bit more open to my suggestions! Thanks girls!”

MASCARA MAYHEM Rimmel say:

We say:

Rimmel have brought us another instalment of the Scandaleyes range. This new mascara, appealingly advertised by Kate Moss, is promoted as being able to provide you with a ‘Rocking London Look’. Designed with a new broken heart shaped brush to grab every lash and provide you with maximum volume and maximum curves.

The new broken heart shaped brush didn’t work well. For mascara that is advertised to be able to grab every lash, having a brush so big it makes this very hard for the consumer. The shape of the brush is awkward and it’s hard to find any kind of application method that works to provide you with any kind of volume and curve. Maybe if Rimmel considered a smaller brush, these amazing factors they’re advertising would actually be achievable.

Words: Emma Roberts

L’Oreal say: The Miss Manga mascara from L’Oreal Paris comes in three different colours, black, turquoise and violet. The advertising claims that the mascara will provide you with mega volume and create an effect of the eyes appearing more open. This mascara introduces a new 360-degree flexi brush, which is to be applied in a zigzag motion to amplify the lashes.

review

Score:5/10 Rimmel Scandaleyes Rockin Curves £6.99,

VS Score: 8/10 L’Oreal Mega Volume Miss Manga Mascara £8.99

We say: Getting to grips with a new brush and maybe a new brush technique may be off putting for some, but stick to it and you’ll be able to achieve the affects this mascara advertises. The zigzag motion helps to cover the lashes from base to tip and leaves your eyes looking fuller, more opened, volumized and lengthened. Overall this mascara is a winner. A great product at a great price, notably cheaper than most mascara’s available in the L’Oreal Paris range.

EMBRACE THE CURVES Listen up girls! Are you fed up of constantly feeling under pressure to be a certain size? Do you find yourself feeling envious of your size 8 best friend who is able to eat as much chocolate as she likes and not put on a pound? Well we might have some good news just for you. After a recent survey has shown that 50% of men stated that their ideal girlfriend would be a size 12, it looks like curves could be the way forward!

It appears that curves are also becoming much more popular in the fashion world, with Debenhams launching their new range of size 16 mannequins in 170 of their UK stores during November last year. The department store became the first high-street name to do this, wanting to reflect the shapes of real women to their customers. Online fashion retailer, Boohoo, have also recently launched a new plus size range for sizes 16-24. The collection follows a similar style to

If that wasn’t enough to make you want to embrace those curves, it seems that it might not be too long before curvy women are going to be in demand to appear on the catwalk! That’s right, recent campaign, All Walks Beyond The Catwalk, is an idea founded by Caryn Franklin, Debra Bourne and Erin O’Connor that aims to transform the traditional catwalk into something that features women with more relatable and achievable body shapes, challenging the idea of beauty ideals. LOYALTY

& DESIRE

Here at Lust Have we interviewed Mark Dacey, owner of the hottest up and coming unisex brand Loyalty and Desire to see what all the fuss is about.

Based in Croydon, South East London, Loyalty and Desire is the brand proudly owned and designed by 24-year-old Mark Dacey, who is all about bringing something new and personal to the table. Although sales for Loyalty and Desire are soaring, and its Twitter has a magnificent 16.2 thousand followers, it hasn’t always been this great for the 24-year-old designer, hence why he decided to start his brand. The whole range has an extremely personal and sentimental reasoning behind it from the name to the logo. Back in 2012, Mark seemed to be living the high life, earning a lot of money and splashing his cash 54

on whatever he pleased, but in the space of one week in May 2012, he lost everything he had. This left him skint and jobless, turning him to drink, drugs and depression. Finally, Mark’s wakeup call came from a suicide attempt which left his mother and girlfriend cold hearted, hence why the logo for Loyalty and Desire is a woman with no heart, indicating the heartlessness of his girlfriend and mother after the suicide attempt.

puts money in his pocket he doesn’t take for granted and loves each and every person for buying them.

The concept behind the name came from the loyalty the 24-yearold had from his other family and friends during the tough times and his desire now for the ability to make something of his life again; forming Loyalty and Desire. On the back of each of the designs is the numbers 8.3.1. The meanings behind these are something the designers Nan used to say to him when he was younger; ‘8 letters, 3 words, 1 meaning, I love you’. Mark decided to include these in his designs as he says anyone that

s we move further into the 21st century, unisex fashion has really cemented itself as a trend that is here to stay. It isn’t often you come across a fantastic unisex brand that is cool, wearable and affordable, but Loyalty and Desire definitely ticks all the boxes and then some.

L.A.D designs are the extension of our story as we grow, as a person and clothing line, our designs will be based on the continuation of our journey. Each design is based on something that means something to a lot of people. The Hate/Love range as we all feel these emotions and The 99 Problems range as we all have millions of problems but looking fresh is always a must. How would you describe your designs? L.A.D designs is me. It’s my life on other people’s bodies. Meaningful would be the one word I would use to describe my designs. 55

“Take everything, give away nothing.” What’s

Being a brand new line we have limited items currently released. Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with our ‘Hate/Love’ range. It is an emotion we all feel at some stage in our life.

Your everyday person, this line is designed for them.

All the time! But, it is very easy to create ideas, whether it’s from magazines, TV, other lines, searching the web, or even better people watching. The thousands of people you pass on a daily basis all wearing different items are very easy to take ideas from.

your favourite piece from your entire range?

would you describe your personality and working style?

As the owner of L.A.D, I describe myself as a gambler with ambition to make a name for myself, with people knowing the name/face behind the brand. My working style depends on my own personal motivation. Like most people, sometimes its sky high and movements are made, and then other times it is just watching the time fly by. If

you were giving someone advice who wanted to start designing their own fashion line, what would you tell them?

Why are you doing this? Is it for fame? Money? Ambition? Don’t just do it to be a follower. What is the best career advice you have ever received? Take everything, nothing.

Is

there any celebrity you’d love to see wearing your designs and why?

If I had to throw names out I’d go with Tinie Tempah or Pharell Williams. Both guys range game is crazy. Where do you see L.A.D in 5 years time? In stores around the world. Not to be a major household name but enough to be noticed. That is in my own hands, I’ll hopefully keep bringing out clothes people like. Whats next step for your designs? Spring/Summer 14, Autumn/ Winter 14. You’ll see LAD turn into a GENT.

TATTOOS. FASHION OR ART? Age: 21

From: Dover, UK. Currently living in Southampton Number of tattoos: 18

60

It’s not often enough we see fashion and tattoos come together, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have some hidden ink. We spoke to two very different individuals who aren’t afraid to have their tattoos on show and don’t consider them a fashion statement…

Words: Emma Roberts

Name: Robert Brooks

Which tattoos mean the most and why? My right arm I guess, which will eventually become a sleeve. It represents my family. I have the four elements on my outer bicep which is a representation of me and my three siblings, and how we’re all different yet connected. On the inside is a tiger which represents my mother. It’s a Japanese sleeve and tigers are symbols of strength and courage so it’s for her. Do you see your tattoos as a fashion statement? Not really. I love how they look and always love to show mine off with other people in the “community” Do you view your tattoos as Art? Definitely, it’s a mixture of so many different art forms. It’s like a beautiful painting with a touch of performance art with a personal back story you know? A gorgeous oil painting is definitely a sight, but a good tattoo has had so much work go into it, both from the artist and the owner. What inspired you to get as

many tattoos as you have? I guess some of it was from the music scene, a lot of the bands I listen to and hang out with have lots of tattoos and I just loved the look of it.

Do you ever worry having tattoos will someday affect your career? Not particularly, all of my tattoos can be hidden with a long sleeved shirt. My career isn’t a very professional looking field either. No one really cares what the sound guy looks like as long as it all sounds good. Are you or have you ever been treated differently because of your tattoos? Oh a bunch of times, mostly from my mother calling me a twat in most conversations. I get some stares; I get a lot of questions in the street and the world’s stupidest people showing me the worst tattoos and their terrible ideas. There’s only so many times I can politely nod at a tribal tattoo with some idiots mum’s name on. Do you plan on getting more tattoos? I have a list of at least 8

more that I want and I’m friends with a couple artists so they always hit me up if they have a cool idea they wanna go for.

Do you have a limit to how many you would get, or certain places you would avoid getting tattooed? I have no limit to how many (as much as my mother disagrees) but I’m not going to get my hands/knuckles or my throat or face done any time soon. I’ve always said when I retire I’ll rock some hand pieces but who knows Do you worry about how your tattoos will look when you get older? Every tattoo no matter how well looked after has a shelf life before it starts fading, but I take pretty good care of mine and aren’t out in the sun all day so I’ve got a good few decades until it gets too bad. If any of them ever got to a point where I hated how they looked, I’d get new pieces to cover them up. 61

full sleeve and a full back piece.

“When I was younger I never looked at a heavily tattooed lady and thought ‘I want to be like them.”

62

Which tattoo means the most and why? The small rose on my foot means the most to me because not only was it my first tattoo (the one which started the obsession!), it was a tribute to my Grandad. He meant absolutely everything to me and I never thought I’d lose him. I was always very fond of his tattoos – roughly done pin ups and “mom/dad” on his knuckles. My favourite was his rose on his hand but I was sixteen at the time – naughty - and wanted my parents to approve so I opted for the top of my right foot instead. It’s not very well done, but it means too

much to me to get it reworked. Plus, it hurt. Do you see your tattoos as a fashion statement? Not in the slightest. In my eyes fashion and tattoos are completely different things. For one, you can take fashion off! Do you view your tattoos as Art? No. I didn’t get them because I wanted to be a walking piece of art. My tattoos mean something and represent different periods of my life. They had to be done there and then to the best standard my part time wage could afford! What inspired you to get as many tattoos as you have? When I was younger I never looked at a heavily tattooed lady and thought “I want to be like them.” I guess it was more about standing out and rebelling. From there it just became an addiction. Do you ever worry having tattoos will someday affect your career? My tattoos are permanent – they’re a part of me. If an employer won’t hire me because of my tattoos, I don’t want to work for them. My current employer doesn’t care that I’m tattooed and have them on show. I work hard and I get the

work done – why does a horse on my arm make a difference? Are you or have you ever been treated differently because of your tattoos? I sometimes feel I have been treated differently because of my tattoos. Mostly at the dentist – just because I have a sleeve, doesn’t mean I’m immune to injection pain! Do you plan on getting more tattoos? Of course! I’m slowly running out of body space though! I want to get my back piece finished and get started on my second sleeve as soon as I can (and can afford to!) Do you have a limit to how many you would get? Yes. I would never get a tattoo on my face, front of neck or chest. Do you worry about how your tattoos will look when you get older? Not really. Tattoos are becoming a more acceptable part of society, so I don’t think they’ll offend anyone! When I’m a saggy old lady I’ll just be happy I lived my life, had fun and didn’t waste my canvas!

FASHION WEEK WEEK

London Fashion Week was a mixture of well…everything, from cow skin, fur, neon and leather. With great collections from the likes of Christopher Kane and Marques it was non stop fashion for the entire week.

The city of love made it very easy for us to stay in awe of the collections throughout the week. From bright summer wear to more tame androgynous garments; particular stand outs for us were the designs by Avelon, Anthony Vaccarello and Pascal millet.

Lust Have’s Favourite Collection: Our favourite collection was GILES, designed by Giles Deacon, former employee of fashion house Gucci. Widely known for collaboration on collections for high street retailer, New York delivered a brilliant collection, and even managed to get model of the year Cara Delavigne on the runway.

BE B O L D If the swinging 60s weren’t enough for fashion, then the 70s and 80s definitely made up for it. Think flower power, think floral and a shed load of colour... Lust Have look at the current trends of being bold...

The 60s mojo still exists in our simple fashion trends now, with a tendency to heavily accessorize our colorful outfits as we accompany short dresses with dazzling patterns and mesmerizing prints. The swinging 60s were known for tie-dye and long hair, a hippy era that we are still familiar with today. But if we fast-forward to 1967, 72

fashion fell in love with revealing a little leg, as skirts got shorter and the colours brighter (which we LOVE!).

The unmistakable face of Lesley Lawson, aka Twiggy, was at the forefront of the 1960s fashion industry. As a prominent British model with an androgynous look, her long eyelashes and short hair won over the public and landed her with the tile of “The Face of 1966” by the Daily Express. Her famously worn oversized dresses and bold colours are not dissimilar today, as New Look alone have racks full of vibrant outfits ready for a night on the town. Even the ugly clothes (and shoes) are in, but they’re

Words: Suzie Kidger

The swinging 60s were filled with change, as new trends emerged constantly, it couldn’t get any more diverse. The sophisticated use of colour at the time embraced individuality, with mini skirt galore and those flares appearing just about everywhere. The style was easy, and my god was it bright. These elements have come back around in fashion, 2014 style.

73

bright, they’re beautiful (obviously) and can be easily transformed into so many different outfits. While we all wish we could fill our wardrobes weekly with the hottest trends, sometimes we have to recycle that worn-once dress into a party frock. Maybe we should take a leaf out of the 60s look book of style, when materials were more spage-age than new age, with shiny vinyl and plenty of silver. Never did we think that we’d look like a 1960s Buzz Lightyear. Plenty of fashion was born in this era and hasn’t aged one bit, including those boots we all depend on. We all know the ones with heels just high enough to give us a boost in height (and classy confidence) and a convenient zipper up the back for easy taking off purposes after a night out. When Lust Have spoke to two industry pros, this is what they had to say… ‘I think that things go in cycles. Bright blocky colours were the thing in the 80s. People do seem more comfortable to express individuality now than they were when I was a student.’ Jane Hoskyn Freelance Journalist, previously: Interviewer/ Photographer for Vogue ‘Street Chic’ and Southampton University student ‘The 60s, 70s and 80s were definitely the time for bright colours and wearing something a bit more extravagant, but it is definitely coming back around. Bigger and better’ Matt Jones Freelance Fashion Journalist and Stylist

But it’s not all about what we wear on our feet of course, that’s just one layer of a very large fashion tiered cake. Enter the granny glasses, a popular accessory that can spice up any ordinary outfit in a flash. Think pinks and oranges, aqua blues and greens, and you’re brushing shoulders with John Lennon. As just one of the many ‘crazy’ fads of the 60s, the open-minded era has definitely developed into all our favourite shops on the high street. Crack out your patterned trousers from Bank, Missguided and Topshop, not forgetting that Debenhams, New Look and H&M have plenty to brighten up your wardrobe too. Don’t be afraid to be bold, dress in colours you’re not used to and push the boundaries. The 60s freedom is alive in the fashion on our doorsteps, with easy accessibility to those neon colours and fabulous patterns from so many outlets and online. Soon we’ll be testing our designer IQs, spotting the brightest dress a mile off and knowing exactly where we can get it. But why is big and bold so damn beautiful? Why is it popular in our favourite high street shops? Well, let us explain our diagnosis… Bright colours are a bit like sunshine; it just makes you feel good. There is no reason why our wardrobes should be full of the same styles and materials, so why should it be the same with colour? With the opportunity to dress brightly all year round, you’re never stuck for an outfit, so your wardrobe no longer becomes sectioned into seasons because you’ll love it ALL. It’s time to crack out those neon shoes and that blood orange coat you’ve worn once, because colours are the new form of tagline. We no longer need to make a statement with ‘GEEK’ or ‘NERD’ because our colours say it all.

STREET STYLE Words: Emma Roberts

Street Style. When you walk past someone in the street and appreciate or admire what they’re wearing, do you ever go and tell them how good it looks? Do you ever ask them where they brought it? For most of us the answer is probably no, and now we’ll spend days trolling the internet trying to find out where it was they brought that top you’ve fallen in love with. A huge percentage of us won’t ever find what we were looking for. Embracing Street Style seems to be an evergrowing trend, everywhere there are designated sections in magazines... just like this one, and blogs specially created to view the style on the street. Viewing Street Style is a great way to get ideas, be inspired and create something of your own. So take note of what people are wearing and dress everyday as if you were good and ready to appear on Lust Have’s Street Style Pages.

ANDROGYNY

FASHION’S MOST CONTROVERSIAL SUBJECT Be timeless, channel Androgyny. Lust Have talks to fashionista Caryn Franklin and fashion event organiser Wynter Heayes and gets their view on the ever growing fashion statement.

82

Reaching its peak in the modern age of fashion and appearing on every catwalk, advertisement, celebrity and each clothing collection, androgyny is at an all-time high.

Caryn Franklin- Former fashion editor and coeditor of i-D magazine and co-founder of All Walks Beyond the Catwalk: allwalks.org Model: Elizabeth Parsina

Androgyny in fashion first began to have an impact on society a long time ago. Renowned fashion designers including Yves Saint Laurent and Coco Chanel were one of the very first to cause a stir. ‘Coco Chanel, she made it mainstream, she was one of the first people to introduce the trouser suit for women, which once upon a time was prohibited’ Caryn Franklin explained, and continued with ‘Women have had to fight, since years ago to gain the power of being able to dress how they want, against a status of masculinity’. These designers in particular introduced the likes of the tuxedo andtrouser pants for women in a pledge to break the norm, rebel against the restriction of women’s fashion and to dress in a way that may

the fashion statement that has been around for centuries. The term, which refers to the combination of both masculine and feminine characteristics, for a long time was not publically displayed or as socially acceptable as it today. Speaking to Caryn Franklin, former fashion editor andco-editor of i-D magazine and cofounder of award winning organisation All Walks Beyond the Catwalk, she has said that ‘it allows us not to be gender specific’ and therefore androgyny keeps the social change of integrated sexuality in the spotlight. Designers and celebrity trendsetters have played a huge part in the development of androgyny, evolving the trend throughout the years keeping it a fresh, interesting and an intriguing ongoing movement in fashion. Wynter Heayes, founder of East London Fashion Shows stated that ‘nobody likes the norm anymore’ hence why androgyny today is so popular.

have been seen as masculine but was a hell of a lot more comfortable. Caryn went on to say ‘it allows the individual to bring that element of boldness, it’s not fixed or bound, it’s creative’; women went to town with androgyny embracing the once dominant masculine clothing pieces such as brogues, suspenders, blazers and the necktie. Celebrities such as Katharine Hepburn and Twiggy were particular fans of androgyny and were brave enough to break the boundaries and embrace the new fashion. James Dean was another who was notably embracing his feminine side with his clean-cut appearance and unhidden use of various beauty products. As time went on, androgyny became more acceptable and appeared more in fashion, the hippie era and the disco era developed it to unimaginable lengths and all that was left to do now was wait for what the next era would bring.

Designers, models and the fashion industry as a whole are who we should be thanking for the social change of heart when it comes to androgyny. Designers and the fashion industry whether we like to think it or not, set trends. Sub-consciously most of us our buying the latest thing because the fashion industry had a great idea, developed it and we ended up wearing it. Just like Meryl Streep tells Anne Hathaway in The Devil wears Prada,‘you’re wearing a sweater that was hand chosen for you by the people in this room, from a pile of stuff’. Models like Coco Rocha and Erika Linder fully embrace an

Lady Gaga, Madonna, La Roux and Annie Lennox are all partial to a nice suit, some even a whole other male alter ego. Male or Female, androgyny is embraced by both. In fashion we use it to combat the norm and express our individuality. ‘People are always looking for something new, different and shocking’ finishes Wynter Heayes as a final anecdote.

This season, everyone has seriously fallen victim to the charm of vintage fashion. From cute collars, to bold 60’s prints, here at Lust Have we want to know why everyone’s loving it just as much as we are!

No matter how much we try and deny it, fashion plays a big role in defining who we are. Whether you’re one to model a simple, clean cut style, or rock a bright, bold look, the clothing we wear showcases aspects of our personality to the people around us. But fashion is constantly changing, so not only is it difficult to keep up with latest trends, it can also be a struggle to come up with new ways to style your wardrobe and be unique. But panic not as we roll in the rise of vintage, the current craze that could potentially solve all of our wardrobe worries! The demand for vintage fashion and style has risen hugely over recent years, but why have everyone’s heads suddenly got into a retrothemed spin? Inspiration, originality and bargain hunting all come to mind. With the world becoming shopping obsessed, there are only so many ‘new’ trends that can be introduced into the fashion world, right? Therefore designers are forced to look back to the fads of previous eras for inspiration. “The trend for vintage encourages people to reuse existing products, lessening the demand for new products” stated Marianne Campbell, co-owner of vintage fashion business, Minimum Mouse. High-street stores such as Urban Outfitters and Topshop have definitely fallen victim to the charm of vintage fashion. If you’re looking for something new that looks old (confusing, we know!), for a high-street price then these are definitely the places

Is buying old the new buying ‘new?

to look. Urban Outfitters offer their ‘Urban Renewals’ line, aiming to tailor old pieces into something that will fit in with the style demands of today. Think of the loud flair of the 60s and 70s, just with a shorter skirt and a more fitted waist! This along with their love for paisley patterns, pleated tartan skirts and boyfriend style jeans is the perfect combination to make you feel like you’ve stepped into a time warp of old school fashion.

“You can go to a vintage fair and buy a new outfit for £15, and you won’t have to worry about seeing ten other people in the same thing - which always happens when you buy something from Primark!” explained Marianne. Let’s face it; following the trends was ‘so last year’, fashion has become all about breaking them. Doing something different and not abiding by the rules is the most successful way for people to get themselves noticed. Celebrities are faced with an immense pressure when it Our need for originality is also a comes to the way they look and nobody massive factor in everyone’s love of wants to be left red-faced after being caught in the same outfit as someone vintage. else, especially when you’re being papped everywhere you go! Therefore it’s no wonder some of our favourite celebs have got the vintage bug. New Girl star, Zooey Deschannel has an enviable 50’s inspired wardrobe, rocking a cute, ditsy style with her love of polka dots, florals and Peter Pan collars. Plus it would be wrong to talk about vintage without mentioning Bruno Mars’ old school style - patterned shirts, bowties and retro sunglasses, could he get any cooler?! However, it appears the main attraction towards vintage fashion is hunting for a bargain. There’s nothing better than the thrill of finding that must-have item for your wardrobe with a very appealing price tag to match; and it’s because of this that Vintage Fairs and Boutiques have become the places to be over recent years. If you’re looking for true vintage style, nowhere does it better than Lou Lou’s Minimum Mouse: shop.minimummouse.com/ Purdey Vintage: purdeyvintage.co.uk Forage and Find: forageandfind.co.uk

Vintage Fair. Winner of ‘Best Vintage Fair in the UK’, the event was founded in 2007 and has been running for seven years since then, with vintage businesses travelling the country with their retro beauties. From fashion to jewellery, and make-up to books, the fair is an Aladdin’s cave of hidden gems and charming treats, plus there’s the extra bonus of their mouth-wateringly divine cake stall! Michaela Huish, owner of business Purdey Vintage selling vintage clothing and décor, was one of the stall holders at the event and said, “I think that vintage/retro is popular now for a few reasons, cost is a big issue. You can get a fabulous outfit at a vintage fair so cheaply compared with the main shops. Personally, I find the high street soulless

and I think many feel the same way.” Michaela’s passion for vintage developed after she discovered dresses from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s eras that belonged to her Mum, claiming their beauty was the feeling of nostalgia they created. Mother and daughter business, Forage and Find, also attended Lou Lou’s fair selling beautiful hand-crafted jewellery made from individual vintage pieces, perfect for creating a simple and sophisticated fashion statement. Alice Ehrenfried, daughter in the co-owned business fell in love with dated, classic objects as a young child. “My Granddad introduced me to his ‘den’ where he kept collections of old things and items that he had has throughout his family with very interesting

stories that had to be explained,” she quoted. “ I have been interested in old objects ever since then and have been an avid collector, hence why I started my jewellery business in 2011 creating unusual jewellery with objects found from the past.” Since 2012, Alice has been dressing head to toe in vintage clothing particularly inspired by the Victorian era. So if you’re feeling like your wardrobe needs a bit of a budget pick me up, or you’re fed up of falling in love with clothing that EVERYONE else has, then vintage could be the perfect style for you. Plus, what sounds better than styling up a load of unique outfits with your friends Wild Child style?! Go on, give it a go, you might just be surprised with what you find…

TOP MAKEUP LOOKS FOR THIS TERM

For many girls, make-up is an essential part of their everyday routine, but sometimes working out what look to go for can be difficult. So here at Lust Have we’ve decided to guide you through some of our favourite make-up looks for many different occasions to keep you looking nothing less than flawless!

Words & Photographhy: Emily Whitwam

Late for Uni 1. Start with a light foundation, slightly lighter than your necks skin tone – we used Rimmel London Wake Me Up foundation in ivory. Then go ahead to use a pea sized amount, dot it on your cheeks, forehead and skin and blend. 2. A slight contour always transforms the face and is so quick to apply, so for this we went ahead and used Sleek’s Face Form – lightly brushed a tan shade into her natural cheek bone line and added a brush of blush on the apples of her cheeks to give her that flushed, vibrant image. 3. When you’re in a rush for uni, there is very little time to concentrate on your lashes so for this look we just used clear mascara from The Body Shop’s range called Brow and Lash Gel. 4. Lastly we applied a quick layer of pink gloss to add a bit of colour to the face – for this Bourjois EFFET 3D was used. And there you go - a five-minute make-over for girls who like that extra 10 minutes in bed!

Intern interview 1. This is a dewy look so we began with Simple’s Hydrating Moisturiser, which is really kind to the skin. 2. After moisturising we applied Rimmel’s lasting finish foundation which is guaranteed to remain on your face through the nerves! 3. The next step is a gentle bronzing by dabbing Maybelline’s Color Tattoo into the cheekbones – this is a liquid bronzing formula and creates a perfect sun kissed look! 4. We wanted an effortless, doe eyed image for this interview look so applied one layer of Bourjois Liner Effect Mascara, which really brightens the eye. 5. When going to an interview, although not wanting to look to over done you will need to stand out so a great way of doing this is by using a great vibrant shade of lipstick – red is a great way to ooze sophistication so we used Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in “Love That Red”.

Night-time Grunge

Words: Emily Whitwam

1. We began this look with a liquid highlighter to enhance the natural bone structure, for this we used GOSH Liquid Highlighter and Elumineur Liquid on the arches of the eyebrows, ridge of the nose and apples of the cheeks. 2. Then a layer of foundation is needed to last through the night so we applied Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mouse, which creates an amazing matte effect on the skin. 3. We used a couple of layers of Body Collections Bronzing Pearls on the cheek bones and then a brush of Anna Sui Cheek Colour in Turning Violet as blush which creates a grudge aspect to the face. 4. Eyes are a huge aspect of this look we saved money on products and use the Anna Sui Blush to create a purple smokey eye. 5. To complete the eye, false lashes are a great way to create a dramatic look – the lashes we used were Eylure 204 and we cut them to a length long enough to apply from the middle of the eye to the end. 6. Lastly for a matte look lip we used Kate Moss matte lipstick in the plum shade, which is one of our essentials on a night out!

WHO’S THAT GIRL? Model of the moment Julia Jessica Kinnear Being lovers of all things fashion, at Lust Have magazine we’re always on the lookout for fresh, up and coming models. So we were more than happy to have the privilege of chatting to Julia Jessica Kinnear about her impressive modelling career.

Whilst attending Bath Spa University studying a degree in Business and Journalism, Julia, at the age of 18 started part-time modelling which after graduating then turned into a full-time venture. Relishing in the best of both worlds, Julia has experienced being flown out to the Grand Canyon for a dress show by Ziad Nakad’s as well as brushing shoulders with the likes of fellow model Sophie Anderton. Not letting this all go to her head, she still lives a humble life at home in Salisbury 102

with her parents, younger brother and her two dachshunds Max and Bretzel. Currently signed under two model agencies, Gingersnaps in Bristol and Oxygen in London, Julia has been busy with castings for London Fashion Week 2014. Plus if that wasn’t exciting enough, she has also been shooting Spring/ Summer collections in Britain’s not so appealing weather. Julia talks to Lust Have about her modelling career to date, as we keep our eye on the model of the moment. How did you get scouted? I actually got scouted when I was 15 at the Clothes Show Live in London by Select, but my parents were adamant

I was too young to model, and I am grateful. Getting my education was amazing and let me be a kid! Was there ever any time when you considered dropping out of school to pursue a full time modelling career? There was, but I would say I considered it for about 10 seconds. At that age I would have been way too immature to cope with the pressure of the industry. My parents thought it was best to get an education first. When did you know modelling was what you wanted to do (or did you just fall into it)? I always knew it was a passion of mine to be involved in the arts, and

modelling was always something I was interested in. I idolised models like Karlie Kloss! How important is education to you? I know that education is essential in obtaining a job, but it also makes you a wiser, better rounded person. Staying in education taught me a lot of things including how to present yourself in an eloquent manner, patience, life skills and how to converse appropriately in business. It broadens your horizons for the future, as like anything, fashion is a business too! Have your family been supportive of you pursuing modelling from the beginning? Always! They are very proud of me. My Dad actually snuck into an event once claiming he was the boss of a huge brand because he wanted to watch me. I guess that’s where I get my cheeky side from! Howdidyoufeelonyourfirstshoot? Did modelling come naturally or did it take some getting used to? My first show was for a graduate fashion week catwalk and I was so nervous! It was as a favour for a friend when I was 17, but I remember I really enjoyed the buzz. I knew then it was something I could do as a job. Do you ever still get nervous before a show or shoot?

“Pick a passion and go for it! The only way to be happy is to be true to you.” If it is for a big show, yes I do. I always say if you don’t get nervous you are not taking it seriously, but I use the nerves to boost my performance. At the end of the day you are selling clothes that a designer has worked very hard on, so you have to make sure you are really selling those pieces. What is the weirdest situation you’ve found yourself in since modelling? Some designers and photographers can have pretty whacky ideas about what they are looking for in a shoot. Their themes can be pretty out there! A couture wedding dress designer wanted me to play an almost- evil witch as his designs were quite gothic. That is literally the complete opposite of what I am like, but you put on the act for the work, and it can be fun! Have you made any celebrity friends? I worked with Sophie Anderton. She was super

nice and we still follow each other on Twitter and keep in touch to this day! What is the coolest catwalk or shoot you’ve been part of to date? I would have to say when I got flown out to the Grand Canyon by Jessica Minh Ahn for designer Ziad Nakad’s beautiful dress show. I got to go to Vegas en route, best time ever! The one piece of clothing I couldn’t live without? As its winter, my beanie hat. Also nude thongs, a model’s essential! Biggest fashion mistake? I will NEVER forget my favourite flared jeans when I was 13 with a rainbow stitched onto the bottom of them. I look back now and cringe My favourite shops are?

clothes

I absolutely love Mango’s collections at the moment. Most recent thing you bought was? A gorgeous pair of blue

shorts from Topshop. Who is your favourite designer? I am inspired my Chanel and Chloe. I love the feminine, yet elegant cuts in the collections; I own a bag from both! How important fashion to you?

is

Fashion defines who you are and how you represent yourself. It’s not just about how it looks; I take everything into consideration including my mood and the occasion. Fashion creates an image, it’s a beautiful thing! Do you have any life advice for our readers? Honestly, just be yourself. There is no one else like you out there. It makes me sad when people commit to changing to make other people happy. Pick a passion and go for it! The only way to be happy is to be true to you.

You can leave your hat on...

Words: Hannah Wallis

Wearing a hat always brings a cool vibe to an outfit, and no outfit is truly complete without a chic hat. Not only do hats transform an outfit, they also hide you from those dreaded bad hair days. We styled Courtney Berry, a fashion blogger, to show you how to work the latest headgear.

108

Adore a fedora

Bbbbbowler

The fedora is great for dressing up an outfit up or keeping it casual. If you ever want to look stylish but not like you’ve tried too hard, a fedora is just the thing. These hats look amazing teamed with a leather jacket. A few tips on how to wear the hat; if the brim of the hat is smaller, tilt the hat toward the back of your head leaving the front of the brim sitting on your forehead. And, if it’s a wide brimfedora sit the hat directly on top of your head.

One of the big trends at the moment - The bowler hat. This hat can be worn with the simplest outfit; just by adding it the whole mood of the outfit has changed. From relaxed and effortless, to flirty andplayful. All that by just putting a hat on! When wearing your bowler make sure you tilt it to the backof your head so it sits towards the back rather than putting it directly on your head; directly on your head isn’t a good look when wearing a bowler believe us.

Beanie baby This is probably the most perfect hat to wear on a bad hair day. Not only that, you can wear it with almost any outfit. Beanies seem to even be worn all the time at the moment and we don’t think this is a trend that is going to stop. To wear the beanie correctly, slouch the beanie on the back of your head and make sure you sweep the front section of your hair to the front, then hey presto your good to go!

Furrfect Everyone loves a bit of fur and these headbands are no exception. You can get these in every single colour you can think of, we’ve even seen a bright pink one! These are great for the cold weather and ever so simple to wear; you just put it over your head and you’re ready for the day.

The weird fashion trend strikes again. £17.95 Spy Love Buy

Right now we might as well forget the sensible Timbaland boot, the kitten heels we adore so much, or even those that give us a sky-high factor… As the damn ugly shoe brigade are at it again. This season, the jelly shoe is back with a vengeance. With neon pinks and oranges so bright they should glow in the dark, it’s all about the ugly shoe. And we can’t get enough of them. This trend brings back memories of stony beaches and paddling with a fear of being nibbled, but we can’t get enough. They may be ugly, they may repel men everywhere, but we LOVE them.

What’s ‘in’ is ugly, and with websites such as Spy Love Buy UK offering some of the ugliest on the market, (followed swiftly by JuJu jelly sandals) there are plenty to choose from. Here are a few of the ugliest around for your viewing pleasure.

We’ve all gone onesie mad

Words: Suzie Kidger

When starting University there are many things you need to cram into your parents’ car, this usually includes all those must have items of clothing (yes, of course you’ll wear all seven little black dresses), all the stuff that reminds you of home (comfy pillow, fluffy slippers...) and of course, your onesie. But if you don’t have one when you go to University, you will no doubt leave with one, or two, or many. Students (and celebrities) left right and centre have been getting their paws on the trendiest and wackiest of onesies for that perfect Instagram selfie, including Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus and Jessie J (below).

Lust Have’s Twitter Awards

Angriest Tweet

Weirdest Tweet

@lindsaylohan ‘Why did I get put in jail and a nickelodeon star has had NO punishment(s) so far?’

@justinbieber ‘Someone approached

me today and asked if I was that chick from the L Word...’

@cher ‘Wtf is mdna’

This tweet made the legend that is Cher famous in Twitterland. Her confused response to the publicity surrounding Madonna’s newest album titled MDNA was displayed, and hit Twitter by storm generating over 13,000 favourites and 27,000 retweets. Since Cher’s tweets have been monitored and have resulted in full page features, articles and news stories about how funny she is. Whether it’s her innocence and lack of knowledge when it comes to technology, or pure Cher brilliance, who cares? We love Cher and she is awarded with Lust Haves’s funniest tweet award.

This tweet in particular got everyone laughing with... and at Justin Bieber. It wins the award for weirdest tweet. Being mistaken for the opposite sex is never pleasant, but if we are all honest with ourselves we can probably agree slightly with the legend that asked if Justin was from the hit lesbianthemed TV show The L Word, #awkward

Don’t worry Lindsay you may have had to do some time in jail, but on the up side, you’ve won the Lust Have’s award for angriest tweet.

Cutest Tweet

At this year’s Oscar’s the comical host posted the record breaking photo on her Twitter account which captured the biggest stars of the night including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. The selfie managed to crash Twitter completely getting more than 80,000 retweets in less than three minutes and successfully taking over President Obamas record of the most retweeted image in the history of twitter.

@Pink ‘If any of u have more experience on a bike than my husband, then I will listen to your opinions on how he should take my daughter for a ride’ ‘ I can’t promise I will care, but I will listen none the less’ Not your typical cute affectionate tweet, but this is rock star, badass chick Pink we’re dealing with. When news surfaced that her husband Carey Hart had taken their young daughter Willow for a ride on his motor cycle, the abuse came flooding in over twitter. Pink jumped to her husband’s defence, showing, in her way, the commitment, love and trust the couple have and the unity over their family choices. You go Pink! Tell em who’s boss! We’re awarding you with Lust Have’s cutest tweet award.

How did you get into the magazine industry? I always knew I wanted to be a writer, and magazines always held a particular appeal for me as it seemed so glamorous growing up! After college I found myself in a series of dead-end jobs and, still writing in my spare time, decided to ‘pull my finger out’ and go to uni. After graduating I spent a good year doing internships and placements and working my butt off for pennies at various titles JESSICA DAVID in London before I got my break as editorial FREELANCER AT assistant for handbag. com. A typical day at Glamour Towers would involve writing up the morning celebrity news first, then choosing which pictures we’re going to run with from the day/night before. Usually any celeb events, star sightings and the daily fashion Dos and Don’ts. We then work on features for the rest of day and attend any necessary press events, product launches or screenings.

As a freelance journalist, managing your time and keeping track of invoices can be the hardest part. You have to be very disciplined to work from home and meet deadlines - as there’s always plenty of distractions! Chasing invoices can become the bane your existence too! Sometimes I’ve gone months without being paid - which as you can appreciate becomes pretty stressful!

Who has influenced you the most to become a journalist? How did they do it?

Growing up it was my love of music that made me want to be a journalist. I was a total indie kid - spent most of my youth listening to bands like Blur, Elastica, Pulp and Garbage - and read everything from NME to Q. That’s what initially made me want to be a writer. After joining handbag.com, my editor Natasha McNamara pretty much became my role model. She’s such an inspiration. When she left to join Glamour I followed.
