ST VINCENT DE PAUL FAST FACTS Please find below some of the ongoing projects we were able to fund with your help and support. In 2007/8 The St Vincent de Paul Society in South Australia, was able to provide over $2.1 million in assistance to help people in need.
HOME VISITATION – Home visitation has remained the core work of the Society. Inspired by the Society’s founders in 1833, members continue to visit people in their homes to provide support, friendship and material assistance. VINNIES CENTRES— Provide donated clothing and material goods for sale to the general public. The money generated enables the Society to continue our ‘good works’. The ‘shops’ are run by dedicated and committed volunteers. COMPEER – The Compeer Programme matches volunteers with people who are affected by mental illness. Mental Health issues will impact on 1 in 5 Australians at some time in their life. So far the programme has matched 22 clients with 22 volunteers. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT – Thousands of volunteer hours support our programmes and special works every year. If you are interested in volunteering in one of our centres, Special Works, or even administration assistance please contact us to discuss possibilities. FRED’S VAN – Fred’s Van continues to be the face of the Society for many people. During the last year our volunteers dedicated more than 9000 hours in six locations across Adelaide, providing a meal and blankets to the homeless.
SCHOOL RESOURCES – Through the visitation programme, workshops, leadership days, community work placement and being part of Mini Vinnies and Young Vincentian groups meetings, the stories we tell, help young people understand the issues facing all people and especially those who are marginalised. OVERSEAS PARTNERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE– We value the relationships with fellow Vincentians in other countries.
