Vinnies says No to TPVs “The St Vincent de Paul Society National Council rejects any calls for the reintroduction of Temporary Protection Visas in Australia”, said National President, Mr Syd Tutton. “Our members resoundingly condemn such calls as being regressive and completely lacking in compassion,” he added. “Now is the time for a bipartisan approach characterized by a spirit of welcome rather than divisiveness.” National Council Chief Executive, Dr John Falzon, said: “We will not be silent. It is not OK to play politics with the lives of people fleeing persecution and tragedy. “We are a nation that has moved forward in regard to our treatment of asylum seekers. We need to move further forward in the interests of compassion and justice. The reintroduction of TPVs would be a massive step backwards.”
