Volunteer Home Visitor Half Day per Week Volunteer Position title

Location Position objective

VOLUNTEER HOME VISITOR 2 Elder Place, Macquarie Field

To provide support to individuals or a family experiencing a disadvantage After referral to program to visit residents in their homes in the Macquarie Fields Public Housing Estate. To promote friendship and a sense of community to those who are isolated or in need of listening ear. To provide information about local community services, and encourage community participation.

Skills/qualifications required

An understanding of people who are socially marginalised Display empathy and tolerance to those in need Good communication skills Own motor vehicle preferable with comprehensive insurance Ability to work with other volunteers within the program Acknowledge and respect the rights of others privacy and confidentiality Some knowledge of community services available Deal respectfully and courteously with other people Meet all screening requirements

Key areas of responsibility

Visit individuals homes with another volunteer

Communicate in an empathetic manner

Provide referral to other community organisations

Record an accurate account of the home visitation session

Adhere to all OH&S procedures

Apply the principles of the St Vincent de Paul Society in volunteer home visitation

Attend all training sessions as required

Contact coordinator at the close of all home visits

Attend de-briefing sessions with program coordinator as required

Adhere to program rules and policies

Supervisor

Immediately to the Co-ordinator of Rosalie Rendu Home Visitation Project, and then Manager of the Vincentian Social Action Centre

Days/times required

HALF A DAY PER WEEK (Flexible)

Training requirements A full day or two half days training is provided for this role prior to engagement. This training will involve: • Training specific to the role i.e. safe home visiting • OH&S • Society Orientation Program
