In 2014, the French photographer Chloé Jafé settles in Tokyo where she had the chance to meet with the head of a yakuza group. For 6 years, she photographed the daily life of this group, with a focus on the wives, mistresses, and bodyguards. All these women play a very significant role in the life of the yakuza. She named her series "Inochi Azukemasu", gift of one’s life. Taking on the spontaneity of a travel book, her black and white photographs capture intimate moments as well as gatherings of important clan members. Gestures and often tattooed bodies are central in Chloé’s pictures, and she sometimes goes beyond the frame of the image to enhance her point.
