ange Rover Sports are a common sight on Cheshire’s roads but this version is a little different. This is the Range Rover Sport Hybrid is powered by 3.0-litre SDV6 diesel engine producing 340bhp when combined with an electric motor. Electric motor? I hear you. Yes, this hybrid version of the Sport has an improved fuel economy – up from 38.7mpg in the ordinary diesel unit to 44.1mpg, in the hybrid while emissions are as low as 169g/km of CO2. Now if you venture to London for business, then you’ll pleased to know that you can enter the Congestion Charging Zone for free thanks to the hybrid technology under the bonnet. If you don’t, well at least it’s a tad more friendly to Cheshire’s green countryside. Jump in, the first thing that hits you is that the cabin is a classy place to spend
time in. it oozes quality. The fixtures and fittings are all made of quality materials and there are tons of gizmos to keep you entertained. The interior is much better than what is offered in the Porsche cayenne or even the BMW X5. Land Rover has jazzed up the exterior of the car with diamond-turned 21in alloy wheels and Aleutian silver paint plus a panoramic sunroof for 2015. There are one or two options on our test car. Highlights included an on-board telly, rear seat entertainment, a surround camera system, wade sensing plus blind spot monitor and park assist. Another upside is the offroading ability. Land Rover’s Terrain Response system is a work of art, whether its mud and ruts, snow, grass or normal roads it has a setting for everything. Even this hybrid version can cope with the rough stuff. The battery system is protected by a
boron steel bash plate so if you feel the urge to traverse rocky ground or cross a few river-beds then you can do so. On the road the Range Rover Sport Hybrid feels remarkably agile for a car of this size. Starting up and creeping off in silence is quite amusing given that there is a 3.0-litre V6 under the bonnet waiting to kick in to life. The electric range only lasts for around a mile but it is great for not waking the neighbours whether its early in the morning or late at night. or the first time in nearly 80 years Lancashire Bridge has been revealed. If you’ve not witnessed this landmark attraction yet, it’s definately worth a visit to see the historic bridge in Stockport town centre.

Now, thanks to a £1.6m Stockport Council project, the concrete bridge next
to Lancashire Bridge has been removed and the original stone arched bridge has been refurbished with a new viewing area created. The Merseyway area also has other works taking place, including the new £45m Redrock retail and leisure scheme on the former Bridgefield Street car park in the town centre. The scheme includes a new 40,000 sq ft cinema, restaurant units and shops. Stockport already is a great place to live and work – over the next few years the town centre is set to undergo a complete make-over, making it even better, a town to really be proud of.

alling all dog owners and their four-legged friends… St Ann’s Hospice has announced its latest fundraising event, and is calling on local dog owners to be a part of it. The big Halloween Paws Spooktacular is a very special dog walking event, which is taking
place on Saturday 31st October at the beautiful Heaton Park in Manchester. The event will open at 12noon with the dog walk starting at 2pm. It’s a sponsored dog walk to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice, so the team is asking that dogs raise as much as they can in sponsorship. The 5km route is suitable for dogs and owners of all ages, shapes and sizes, and there will be lots of
activities, stalls and entertainment to keep owners happy, and of course a doggie fancy dress competition! Taking part is easy - entry is charged at £15 per adult. Kids and dogs go free! TOUCH SCREEN KIOSKS
GIVE STOCKPORT RESIDENTS ACCESS TO VITAL ADVICE AND INFORMATION
T
he Stockport Advice and Information for Life (SAIL) partnership has recently rolled out five mobile touch screen kiosks in Stockport. The kiosks, which are located in various public locations across the borough allow residents the chance to access useful information via the SAIL website. The website, launched in January was developed by the SAIL partnership - a group of nine local advice providers, including Stockport District Citizens Advice Bureau which has been leading and coordinating the work of the partnership. The SAIL website gives residents and key professionals access to useful information and
advice 24/7. It covers topics including healthcare, family, debt, benefits, housing, immigration, legal issues, workplace, consumer advice, a local and national support services directory, and a news section.
The kiosk at our centre was only installed last week and customers are already commenting on how useful it is for finding information. I’m sure we’ll get great feedback from users over the next two months”.
It is hoped the touch screen kiosks will encourage even more people to use the website as a ‘one stop shop’ to find reliable and trusted information easily.
The kiosks can currently be found at the locations listed and will stay in each venue for two months before being moved to new locations in Stockport.
Rick Jones, Project Manager for the SAIL partnership said: “The aim of the website is to offer residents a wealth of useful information on various topics in one convenient place, saving them valuable time. It is already proving extremely popular, with over 3,500 users visiting sailadvice. org.uk

FRINGE FESTIVAL

housands flocked to Stockport Market over the August Bank Holiday weekend to enjoy the music, arts and street entertainment at the Stockport Old Town Fringe Festival! Sponsored by Orbit Developments for the second year running, Stockport Old Town Fringe Festival attracted some of the most popular acts on the Festival circuit, including ninepiece experimental brass band Perhaps Contraption and aerial street performer Dick Danger. Hundreds stood watching in wonder as Dick Danger defied gravity to hang sideways from the top of a 30-foot pole and then dive headfirst into a bucket of water. More thrills followed from The Circus House who performed their acrobatic show suspended high above the Market Square. Perhaps Contraption drew huge crowds with their bright yellow costumes and instruments and had all the children dancing and playing along with kazoos. The non-stop entertainment also featured lots of local talent including The Urban Gypsies and the young performers from the Fosbrooks folk group who wowed the crowds with their world-class fiddle-playing and clog-dancing.
There were also opportunities for visitors to join the performances with the Stockport Ukulele Players and Mike Sweeney’s Stockport All Stars Band following music workshops which ran throughout the day. Musical entertainment was provided by the Bakers Vaults Jazz and Blues Stage in Castle Yard where highlights included a performance by the legendary blues musician Victor Brox and his daughter Kyla.
Seven Miles Out arts centre, who organised the Festival, had a packed house enjoying performances from Blank Cheque, Lazlo Baby and The Retrosettes. “This year’s Fringe Festival has been an even bigger success than last year,” says Festival Director John Barratt. “We’ve had so much positive feedback over the weekend from people who want to see more events like this happening on a regular basis that bring the community together, boost the local economy and create a genuine feel-good factor in Stockport Old Town.”

he Stockport Plaza brings us this years pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! Hoping for the same success after last years box office record breaker, Cinderella, The Stockport Plaza manager, Ted Doan, has again recruited the expertise of David Vickers and Richard Chandler to entertain us all throughout the festive period. David and Richard bring with them an all star cast to guarantee that the story of Snow White and her band of Dwarfs, that we all know so well, is the tale told in the way it was meant to, but also to ensure laughter all round. Muddles, the Jester is played by the energetic Bradley Thompson, a young actor with plenty of experience in pantomime. The role of
a jester couldn’t be more suited to Bradley who bounces around the stage, with fun written across his face. Everybody would associate Snow White with somebody of immense beauty and glamour, and with recasting last years Cinderella, this is exactly what we have. Becky Bennett seems as though she could play Snow White in her sleep, which is a good job really considering the story line. To have any kind of production of Snow White, we all know that Snow must meet her Prince Charming, and Charming is what the crowd of the Plaza shall get. Bradley Clarkson is no stranger to the stage or the limelight, having been a finalist on ITV’s Grease Is The Word.
The two headline stars of the show are two very familiar faces, firstly we have Kim Hartman who portrayed Helga in the legendary sitcom, ‘Allo ‘Allo. Our Wicked Queen comes from one of the best sitcoms ever, so laughs a plenty are a certainty. In this years Panto, our Dame, Nurse Glucose, is played by the man everybody knows as Jimmy Corkhill from Brookside. Dean Sullivan is possibly the best Dame you will ever see!! tockport Borough has launched a new web-based campaign to showcase the breadth and depth of positive news stories, events, people and places across the area. With seed funding from Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, support from Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, local business organisations and individuals, We Are Stockport has now gone live and will be a ‘go to’ portal for all things Stockport. In just over a month We are Stockport has 7,200 visitors and over 1,100 Twitter followers - a sign of how much people living in Stockport want a publishing platform that promotes
the borough's good news, events and stories showcasing why Stockport is a great place to live and work. Creating its own news and signposting to a plethora of other local websites from I Love Bramhall to Heaton Traders, We are Stockport links like-minded groups who are keen to communicate with and champion the Borough community. The portal is unashamedly positive about the 10 individual areas of Stockport and provides a central place to find things out. The website is being run and edited by Place Campaign Manager and former BBC Head of Communications
Rachel Wallace, whose appetite for the power of story is infectious. Rachel says: "In the course of the last few months as this site has been pulled together we have already uncovered some fantastic stories and this will be the heartbeat of the site. In fact, the styling, especially the grille, has been inspired by the ADAM. Rain Doesn’t Dampen spirits at Chadkirk Festival
lmost a thousand people braved the weather on Sunday 26 July to enjoy the Chadkirk Festival, which is now in its 19th year. Despite the weather, visitors brought their own sunshine and enjoyed a fun packed programme of entertainment including live music and performances, martial arts displays, dancers, wildlife, including ferret racing, and donkeys from a nearby sanctuary. In the chapel, visitors experienced hand ring
bells and the traditional sounds of the silver band outside the chapel. The festival, opened by the Worshipful the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Andrew Verdeille, was organised by Stockport Council and supported by the dedicated Friends of Chadkirk. There were more than 30 craft and information stalls selling a selection of hand-crafted items, from wood turned goods and talented textile artists,
to scrumptious cakes and organically grown fruit and vegetables. The Friends of Chadkirk delighted visitors with their mouth-watering scones with strawberries and cream for sale. Chadkirk is also one of only a handful of festivals which celebrates the ancient tradition of Well Dressing. This year’s beautiful well dressing design, created to express ‘Peace’, took a week to create by a team of well dressing volunteers.

oes anybody remember the old Cheadle Hulme pub next to the train station? In February of this year it was renamed Platform 5 after a refurb which turned it into a modern pub/restaurant.
As soon as we entered the pub we offered the option of whether to dine in the restaurant are or in the relaxed lounge/ bar area. We opted for the restaurant.
When we arrived at Platform 5 we noticed more than quite a few internal and external differences from the pub of old. To say the pub has undertaken a makeover would be a huge understatement. The new look which we could only describe as modern and quirky with a touch of retro.
As we were taken to our table, we walked passed what can only be described as a dessert lovers dream! We then sat and began to look at the menu, we soon realised that picking one starter and one main course each was going to be some task with the menu being so extensive. The final decision was to share the ‘Banter Board’ to start, then we chose the Halloumi Kebab and the P5 Freight Train Burger for our main courses.
The P5 Freight Train certainly lived up to its name, inserted into a nice fresh, floured bun was a salad, a burger, cheese, bacon, a sausage meat patty and chicken topped with a BBQ sauce.
When the banter board arrived we couldn’t believe what had been placed on our table as a starter. The thing was enormous. Containing ribs, wings, sticky chicken, burger on a bun on a stick, smoked bockwurst, parma ham, chorizo and chips salted with a P5 salt accompanied by a P5 dip.
Put this with some chips and what more could you want? Well just incase you wanted more there is! A home made coleslaw and a pot of chilli creates an almost ‘Man vs Food’ type main course placed in front of you.
Every element of our starting platter had flavour in abundance, endearing aroma, presented well and great flavour, ticking off all of the boxes. After the delight of our starter we moved to our mains. The Halloumi kebab looked and tasted equally delightful. Served on a skewer with roasted peppers and onion, with a nice fresh bread served on a bed of salad, a side of coleslaw, chips and the P5 dip.
A great all round place to go for food, whether it be a special occasion, or just a treat, or even breakfast with Platform 5 opening at 7.30am. Definitely a must go to place. You will not be disappointed.

tockport is celebrating another successful year with 2,300 jobs being created locally as a result of companies choosing to move or grow their businesses in the borough.
Decisions made by companies to seize the opportunities Stockport offers has seen the future use of more than half a million square foot of commercial space secured, reconfirming the town’s position as a key business location. As part of its Investing in Stockport programme, Stockport Council plans to build on the town’s strengths developing the borough’s economy even further. Companies making Stockport their new home include Chinese electrics firm CHINT who have moved to new industrial development S:Park; and CFG Law who have relocated to Cheadle Royal Business Park from Wythenshawe. InPrime Logistics also chose a 63,000 sq ft industrial unit in Heaton
Chapel as their new base following a detailed search.
Alongside this, many long standing Stockport businesses have committed their future to the town, safeguarding an additional 1,300 local jobs. Law firm, O’Neill Patient Solicitors have taken additional space at their Hazel Grove offices in order to help with their expansion plans that will see them take on 30 new members of staff. Software specialists CDL also invested £6 million in their state-ofthe-art ‘The Codeworks’ building at Kings Reach, from where the company plans to continue its expansion programme that has already seen 100 new jobs created over the past two years. New and young businesses have also found the conditions they need to succeed locally over the past year. Stockport Business & Innovation Centre (SBIC) at Broadstone Mill has welcomed a number of new tenants including Creative
Front, Ultimedia and Luxury Leasing. Today the centre is home to 39 companies employing over 130 people, each of which can readily access business support to help them grow further. Cllr Sue Derbyshire, Leader of Stockport Council said that “It is exciting to see Stockport go from strength to strength as a business location and I am pleased to welcome each new company. “As a Council we are working to ensure that our town’s development does not stop here and that residents continue to have access to new and greater opportunities. • 150 g digestive biscuits, crushed • 45 g butter, melted • 110 g caster sugar • 120 ml whipping cream
• 150 g dark chocolate, melted and cooled • 2 tbsp cocoa powder • 200 g cream cheese

1. Mix the biscuits with the butter and 1 tablespoon of the sugar. Press into a 18cm springform cake tin and refrigerate. 2. Whip the cream until soft peaks form. Add the cooled melted chocolate, then the cocoa powder mix. Blend well and set aside. 3. Beat the cream cheese and remaining sugar together. Fold into the cream chocolate mixture and mix thoroughly to ensure all of the ingredients are fully incorporated. 4. Spread the mixture on top of the c rushed biscuits. Refrigerate for at least an hour to set, then serve.

The service will provide tenants of the “Three Sisters” with a completely FREE 4mb service, along with a range of low cost increased speed services for those who want them. As connection to this state of the art service does not require a landline, mobile phone or any other form of contract, Stockport Homes is looking to encourage and facilitate the digital connectivity of its residents in an area where the uptake of digital technology has been particularly low to-date. Stockport Homes will also be working closely with CommunityUK and local social enterprise Startpoint Woodley on the delivery of a comprehensive digital inclusion program that will ensure tenants have easy access to all the
training and support they need to make the most of the digital services on offer.
A converted flat in Brecon Towers, the ‘SK1pad’ will serve as a Digital Training Hub for tenants looking to develop and improve their digital skills, and there will also be access to a range of low cost computer equipment for tenants who need it. Roger Philips, Chair of the Board at Stockport Homes’ said: “This pilot project is a radical new step in our efforts to include more of our customers in the digital revolution, and make sure everyone has the opportunity to get online. The lessons we learn from this pilot will be used to develop digital schemes for many more residents in the borough.”
