Exclusive resort clubs on the Baja peninsula from Cabo San Lucas to Puerto Penasco; Private clubs in alpine climates of Lake Tahoe and Castle Pines, Colorado; and a wide variety of large and small, resort, public, semi-private and private clubs in Arizona, on Indian Nations and throughout the Southwest. This broad experience offers a unique understanding of varying design processes, demographics and design character appropriate to the region. Since its inception in 1978, SWABACK has developed a corporate cultural and respected design portfolio based strongly in sustainable building practices. SCOTTSDALE NATIONAL GOLF CLUBHOUSE Scottsdale, Arizona A one-of-a-kind exclusive Clubhouse is truly a national club that offers the most incredible clubhouse and golf experience one could find. The expanded clubhouse added spans of glass window walls and deep overhangs of shallow rooflines for a progressive influence that take advantage of the views and opportunities for outdoor dining and entertaining, as well as luxurious casitas and other facilities. The gold course renovations included redesigning two of the last four holes and adding 27 holes, including a nine-hole par-3 course.

CASA LUCERO CLUBHOUSE at ESTRELLA Goodyear, Arizona Casa Lucero was designed to complement the existing character of Estrella and bring a freshness to the community with creative site features, components, and elements. Casa Lucero’s visual character takes its cues from the materials used on nearby Star Tower. Rusted steel, natural stone, boulders, board foam concrete, timber, painted metal, wrought iron, and slump block help tie Casa Lucero to Lucero and beyond to the greater Estrella community.
TAHOE BEACH CLUBHOUSE Stateline, California The first lakeside community to be built in more than 35 years. A rare private setting offering unparalleled beach access and panoramic mountain views with thoughtfully designed residences and a new luxury clubhouse at its helm.
ASCAYA CLUBHOUSE Henderson, Nevada The 22,000-square-foot clubhouse includes a resort-style pool, large pool with: separate lap-swimming area; Jacuzzi, poolside cabanas and event lawn; shaded entry courtyard with water features and artwork; entry with concierge desk; main gathering room with bar, fireplace and seating areas; shaded outdoor living room with fire elements; and dramatic views of the Las Vegas Strip.

ISLAS DEL MAR Puerto Penasco This multi-family design concept is located on a strip of beach frontage with sea views on one side, and golf and lagoon views toward the opposite direction. Uniquely planned with four phases totaling nearly 23 acres, Costa Divina at Islas del Mar contrasts with typical, congested developments as an exclusive, low-density community. The property creates a serene and secure environment with white sandy beaches and spacious green areas. The total plan of four phases accommodates 336 residences. The first three phases offer 72 luxury single-level villas and 72 luxury two-level villas. The final phase will offer multistory towers with 192 residences.
QUIVIRA CLUBHOUSE Cabo San Lucus, Mexico
NICKLAUS PAINTED VALLEY CLUBHOUSE AT PROMONTORY Park City, Utah The 17,000 sf contemporary Nicklaus Clubhouse at Promontory serves to bring the outdoor environment inside by utilizing the terrain’s low-sloping glacial moraines and glass throughout the design. The clubhouse complements the site by not dominating the topography, but rises up out of it. It also takes full advantage of the vistas looking both south and west across the back nine of the Nicklaus course.

THE SHED AT PROMONTORY Park City, Utah “The Shed” Clubhouse, is an architectural gem that is a fun-filled center of activity, featuring 16,000+ square feet of contemporary interpretation of an old mining shed, with the design guided by the use of rugged, timeless materials; and a color palette that connects the building with its surroundings.

THE LODGE AT MARTIS CAMP Truckee, California This Silver LEED rated facility is a unique community recreation building in a master planned community adjacent to Lake Tahoe, California. It expands the offering of amenities to this community and acts as the focal gathering place for all age groups. It was awarded the Grand Gold Nugget Award 2010 for the best community center design by the PCBC. It was also awarded the Community Center of the Year by the Contractors Association of Tahoe.

TEAM INFORMATION JON C BERNHARD, AIA SENIOR PARTNER | LEAD DESIGNER Mr. Bernhard has served as the principal architect and designer on a broad range of diverse projects, ranging from public and private recreational facilities, master planned communities, park developments, specialty retail, commercial developments, hospitality, and unique, luxury custom homes. As the principal design architect on many of the firm’s most significant, award winning custom homes, he has an uncommonly empathetic relationship with people dreaming of their new custom design. For both nationally and internationally based projects, Mr. Bernhard has been retained to design successive projects for clients looking forward to a repeat of the prior design experience. For an architect, there is no greater testimony to one’s success than a record of this kind of repeat work. His ability to serve his clients at the highest level continues to be an inspiration to the entire firm. His diverse portfolio and attention to detail provided opportunities to offer specialized design and consultation services, including travels to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for design consultation and construction administration for the Environmental Rowda. Hospitality projects include two Marriott Hotels, a series of Residential Resort Towers in Mexico, Villas in Riyadh, KSA, several Golf Clubhouses in Cabo San Lucas, and throughout Arizona.
BRYAN WOODRUFF, AIA SENIOR ARCHITECT | PROJECT MANAGER Mr. Woodruff has over 20 years experience as a Project Manager and Architect on some of the firm’s largest architectural projects. He is a skilled designer, technical detailer, and highly proficient project manager. He has extensive experience in residential, multi-family, office, mixed-use, hospitality, and both private and public clubhouse projects. Bryan coordinates and oversees many large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams who perform as subconsultants to the firm in the design of several large-scale projects. He is dedicated to the details that make buildings go together, while minimizing construction issues. His excellent communication skills add to the smooth implementation of projects.
SCOTT GRAHAM, AIA, NCARB SENIOR ARCHITECT | DESIGN SUPPORT Mr. Graham in a Registered Architect with over 13 years experience on high-end residential, mixed-use and light commercial design services. Working on home designs for some of Western America’s most prominent figures has honed an acute familiarity with navigating the intimate relationships between ambitious clientele, project consultants, and the construction team. This has cultivated a broad education in maintaining high design through all project phases, from schematic design through permitting and construction administration closeout; balancing client priorities with budgetary restraint, and an extensive knowledge of both ground-up and remodel construction methods.Doug is currently licensed in California and Oregon, member of the Council of Landscape Architects Review Board, and partner with Pinnacle Design.
AUSTIN BAXTER CAD/TECHNOLOGY | DESIGN SUPPORT Mr. Baxter has been with SWABACK for over 5 years working on some of the Firm’s most intricate projects from concept to construction, Mr. Baxter has actively designed a range of projects involving golf clubhouses, residential, recreation facilities and hospitality. This diverse exposure enables an approach that can be applied to all scales of design. With a specialization in technology, Mr. Baxter utilizes his skillset to create presentations from dramatic renderings to animated fly-throughs. In sync with the advancement of technology, deeper exploration of proposed designs creates a bettering understanding of the scale and experience of proposed spaces. These skills allow clients to experience a project firsthand, even before groundbreaking.

SENIOR CAD/TECHNOLOGY | DESIGN SUPPORT Mr. Ly has worked at SWABACK since 2005 and has extensive experience ranging from golf clubhouses, large scale planning projects, to large and small custom buildings, both commercial and residential. Mr. Ly has extensive involvement in all phases from schematic design through construction in the majority of the Firm’s projects. Mr Ly’s strongest asset is his project management and organizational skills. His project involvement has allowed him to develop and keep in place successful project management systems including schedules and project time management/ budgeting. Proof of his zealous day-to-day coordination with consultants such as civil, structural, MEP, landscape, lighting and automation, as well as owner’s representatives and the contractor, shows in the successful end-product of the projects in which he has been involved.
