The Ferry Service The ferry service has been conceived to provide a faster convenient and competitively priced means of transport between the communities of Saurashtra and South Gujarat. The principal focus of attention is on a RoRo ferry service for vehicles of all types, but especially trucks and cars. Passengers will be carried on either RoRo vessels or dedicated passenger ferries.

Challenges – The Sea State The Gulf of Cambay is a large expanse of sea with coastal conditions varying considerably around the gulf.

In the upper gulf, around Dahej and to the west, the tidal range tends to be larger with strong currents, although the sea is somewhat protected and the waves are lower. In the lower gulf, around Surat and to the east, the tidal range and currents are smaller, but the sea is rougher.

Ferry Developments in Gujarat, India

Tide Levels The tidal range in the Gulf of Cambay is similar to that in parts of the the UK, at about 10m. Tide Levels to Chart Datum HHT
