Handicraft

Do you enjoy working on creative craft projects? Perhaps you’re looking to meet new friends? Well, with SwanCare’s Handicraft Group you can do both! Coordinator and retirement living resident, Wendy Paull, says art is a great way for residents to express themselves while staying social and having fun, “You can usually find us sitting around a table, sharing a laugh. Some of us like to do our own creative projects, others collaborate, there is no pressure; you do as you please.”

The Handicraft Group meet every Monday afternoon to get crafty and experiment with new styles, “We’re always looking for new ideas on what we can make next. We learn a lot from each other and if someone gets stuck, we do our best to help them, although there’s no guarantee we’ll know how!” She laughed.

Their annual Mother’s Day and Christmas stalls are a staple for the group, with funds raised going towards supporting the residential aged care centres at SwanCare, “It’s a great opportunity for us to show off our creations while helping the community,” Wendy said. The group are always open to new members joining and are currently on the lookout for a new Coordinator and Treasurer, “It has been a joy coordinating the group for the past 13 years, and whoever steps up to take mine and Fran’s places, we know will love it. And they are not expected to do it all alone, we’re here to help. It’s a team effort,” Wendy said.

If you’re looking for a new activity this season or are interested in becoming the Coordinator or Treasurer of the Handicraft Group, come on down and see what it’s all about it!

Bentley Park Residents’ Council

Our two Advanced Care Planning sessions have now been completed with great attendance from residents. Follow up meetings will be held next year. Unfortunately, we could not get a speaker on wills, but we are working on finding someone.

The speaker at our next meeting on the 20th of June will be representatives for VEOLA, our waste collectors, and they will outline what happens to our red, yellow and green bins and the future of waste. Council members will be located in The Club on the second Friday of each month, available to answer your queries or assist you with any communication problems. This moth you can meet us on June 9th from 9:30am to 11:00am. Please call in and say hello, your input helps us all.

For those residents who have mobility scooters (gophers) or electric wheelchairs, please put the 15th of August in your diary as we will be having speakers discussing all the latest rules covering use of these on roads and footpaths, if your scooter is considered safe, as well as safe driving tips. This meeting will be an important meeting for all residents with mobility scooters and there will be several of the latest models on display for anyone getting close to owning one.

Care Christian Fellowship

Join us as we study the bible, worship, and pray together. Also, we have a different speaker every week. It’s close to home and enjoy a cuppa on us afterwards. The Church is interdenominational so anyone can come along. There is no pressure to give money, unless you want to.
