SwanCare Centres Auxiliary

We meet on Mondays in the Activity Room on the ground floor of The Club, please feel free to come down and have a cuppa and a chat. We make various craft items, all ideas and skill levels are welcome.

Heading further into winter, we’re experiencing the odd day when play has either been curtailed or abandoned altogether. Thankfully, they have been few and far between. We are blessed with many stoic bowlers who are willing to brave the wet and the wind and keep playing. The wind being the bane of the bowlers life.

For our meeting in July we have a speaker from Stroke Safe. All residents welcome.

When: 12:30pm - 3:00pm Mondays Where: Activity Room, Leisure Precinct Contact: Wendy Paull on 9470 1966

That being said, the club membership continues to improve; we now have 80 members, even after the sad loss of one social member.

Yoga Club Come down and try your hand at Yoga! Residents are encouraged to bring their own mat, however, there are a few spare in the wellness room. Requirements: residents need to be able to get up and down off the floor unaided. When: 6:00pm Tuesdays Where: The Club, Leisure Precinct Contact: Gailene Wester on 0488 019 349

The next six weeks or so will be the greatest test of our mettle, but I’m confident our more stoic members will be seen out on the green whenever the weather permits. As always, we welcome new members and the “just looking” to come and try a “roll up” with us. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:00pm with a “Happy Hour” after the game on Wednesdays. There are no special functions on the programme for July at this stage. Cheers and happy bowling. When: 1:00pm Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays Where: Pavilion, Leisure Precinct Bowling Green Contact: Chris Simms on 0419 963 395

Indoor Carpet Bowls

Our May fashion Parade was a success! Thank you to all the committee who did a great job as I was enjoying my holiday in Brisbane. Don’t forget 14th July we have a Luncheon outing to Chidlow Tavern. Names and meal choices will be taken at June Meeting. Stay warm and Covid Safe. When: 1:30pm Tuesday 26th July Where: Auditorium, Admin Building Contact: Sandra Holmes on 0459 981 822

Qigong Group Come along and have a go at Qigong! Residents of all physical abilities are welcome. For those who don’t know what Qigong is, it is similar to Tai Chi where practitioners focus on posture, movement, breathing and meditation. When: 9:00am Fridays Where: Swan Centre, Leisure Precinct Contact: Doreen Boss on 6250 0551

New members are always welcome. Never played? Give it a go, it’s fun! When: Meet and chat from 12:45pm to start promptly at 1:00pm Wednesdays Where: Auditorium, Admin Building Contact: Beryl Moule on 9355 1810

Bentley Park Residents’ Council The July Residents’ Meeting will have a presentation from the Asset Management and Maintenance Team. You will have an opportunity to meet the new team leader, Antonino Abad, and the members of the maintenance staff will introduce themselves. To facilitate the meeting, we would like residents to provide questions on notice. Please give your questions to any Councillor. When: 9:30am Tuesday 19th July Where: Auditorium, Admin Building Contact: Ellen Clair (Chairperson) on 6250 0597 Joan Hutchinson (Deputy) on 6250 0852 Council members: Roger Freeman (Board Rep), Margaret Jones (Secretary), Bill Waterer, Tom Swallow, Lyn Swallow, Val Kostic, Carole Collins, and Aileen Hooper.

SwanCare Allsorts Choir If you walk by the Auditorium on a Tuesday afternoon, you’ll hear the sweet harmonies of this friendly bunch! The SwanCare Allsorts Choir has been singing for 4 years sharing their songs with residents and at several other locations including Carousel Shopping Centre. It was tough to get the group off the ground, but once they found their groove nothing could stop them. “When the numbers weren’t what I wanted, I rang a friend of mine who was a choir master,” said Maureen Grickage, SwanCare Allsorts Choir Coordinator. “He said ‘stop having meetings and sing!’ and that’s exactly what we did!” Maureen was very clear when she said they’re more than just a choir. “We supported each other through the pandemic and when we couldn’t come together, we sometimes we just met for fellowship,” said Maureen. “This has continued on today where we now have tea, coffee, and chocolate biscuits at the last meeting of the month as a social celebration.” The Choir is currently in a very strong position for numbers, but Maureen encourages more people to come along and give it a go for a month to see if you would like to commit. “We currently have 23 members,” said Maureen. “There 9 men in our chorus, which is unheard of for a community choir. Our conductor and choir master is Bentley Park resident, Harry Williams and our wonderful Piano player who keeps us in time is Bentley Park resident, Laurie Hudson.” Some of you may be sitting there thinking, it’s not for me I can’t sing, but Maureen assures us that ability doesn’t matter that much. “Some come with experience and others don’t,” said Maureen. “The more you sing the more you improve. We will welcome anyone with enthusiasm who wants to come along.” The SwanCare Allsorts Choir have an event coming up on the 24th of July for the Bentley Park Social Committee. “It will be a great afternoon,” said Maureen. “The free event has afternoon tea provided and the format is more interactive encouraging the audience to sing along. We’d love to see you there!” Above all Maureen wants everyone to know how good singing makes you feel. “Singing is one of the best things to make you feel better. Whether you can sing or not it doesn’t matter, just sing along to your favourite song and let it all go!” If you are a SwanCare Bentley Park resident and would like to join or ask a few questions, get in touch with Maureen today.
