No time to siesta, it’s time to fiesta! Bentley Park Social Club presents Candela Latino Band in concert. All Bentley Park residents are welcome to join in the fun.

Wintertime seems to be kind to us with very few days being rained off, although low temperatures and accompanying cold winds have caused a slight reduction in attendance. One sunny day recently we saw all four rinks back in use.

In August, we’re heading to Albion Hotel, Cottesloe.

Our last gala day, the Keith Whithers shield (fours) was, as usual, fully patronised; the winners names have been added to the trophy shield. We also had a lunch excursion to Ravenswood Hotel on 30th June, which went well despite a hitch with one of the buses, thankfully rectified to reach the destination in time for lunch. Next gala day will be the Patrons Shield held on Wednesday 14th September (all things being equal).

We had a fun morning early in July when some of the staff joined us for our line dancing session. It’s always a good session when they come along. Good for staff and residents to get to know each other and to put a face to a name. Do come again soon. Remember to keep Saturday 20th of August free for the Social Dance with Adam Penn as DJ. Always a ‘specially good evening. When: 9:30am Mondays & 11:00am for the intermediate session Where: Auditorium, Admin Building Contact: Pam Hind on 0431 102 103 or 9470 4139 or pamelajh310@gmail.com Cost: $1.00 to cover morning tea and other expenses. Please book a seat as soon as possible as I need to let the restaurant and drivers know. When: 5:30pm Tuesday 9th & 16th August Where: Albion Hotel, Cottesloe

At this stage the AGM is scheduled for Thursday 15th September, pending the Patron, our CEO Graham Francis’s schedule permitting. We have no Gala Days scheduled for August.

Heart Foundation Walking Group If you are an early riser, you may see the Heart Foundation Walking Group striding it out around Bentley Park and Rowethorpe. The group walks three days a week, setting off at 7:30am on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. David Hall coordinates the group alongside his fellow walkers for the early morning ramble. “The initial idea was started through Dorothy (a fellow walker) and the Heart Foundation who started a walking initiative,” said David. “We thought it was a great idea to help people become more fit and healthy and defend against heart disease. Walking is great exercise and we’ve created great companionship with those who walk together regularly.” The group vary their route to make sure it doesn’t get stale for those who walk on all three scheduled days. “We don’t usually have a set route,” said David. “We mainly walk around Bentley Park village, Rowethorpe, and sometimes we venture to the oval on Hill View Terrace.” The group find 30 minutes of exercise by walking just under 3km. Wednesday certainly seems to be the favourite day for members. “Some people like to walk fast, and other people go a bit slower - we call them the talking group,” laughed David. “But no matter how fast or slow everyone walks, we all meet up again on Wednesdays at 8am for a hot beverage and a good chat. We talk about life and tell a few jokes.” Regardless of the weather they encourage residents to come and pace it out with the group! “Come occasionally or join the group full time,” David said. “We welcome all who want to get their exercise in.” If you are a SwanCare Bentley Park resident and would like to join in, or if you have a few questions, get in touch with David today. When: 7:30am Wednesday, Thursdays & Fridays Where: Wednesday & Thursday meet at Bentley Park Admin Building. Friday meet at Rowethorpe Terrace Café. Contact: Dorothy Walker on 6363 6664 (Rowethorpe) or David Hall on 6250 0566 (Bentley Park)

Do you feel isolated and are you worried about what life holds for you in the future? Significant vision loss is traumatic for anyone, particularly the older you are when it happens. It is very easy to sink into depression and think that life is over, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are people around you who are having the same problems. You are not alone! Why not come along to our support group and get to know others in the same boat. You might be surprised who you come across. If you know someone who might benefit from this group, please pass the information onto them as they may not be able to read it for themselves. When: 1:00pm Friday 26th August for coffee, lots of chat and plenty of laughter Where: Given upon enquiry below Contact: Jenny & Trevor Dawson on 6250 0427 or email jjdawson@bentleypark.com.au
