FIREBREAK ESSEX- PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING Ever fancied a career in the fire brigade? The Firebreak programme aims to promote a culture of safety, team work and citizenship by teaching a range of vital life skills whilst undertaking the various disciplines of the Fire Service.
The course provides a learning environment that combines practical skills and scenario based training, with classroom centred theory/ discussion workshops.
During the intensive week long fire station based course, students will gain confidence and develop vital life skills, while experiencing the techniques used by fire-fighters in their working lives.

The course offers the following opportunities to young people: • Supports children and young people to reach their full potential

FOR AGES 13 – 17 YEAR OLDS AND 18 – 25 YEAR OLDS
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TRAINING GET ONTO CONSTRUCTION TRADES & STONEWORK This training is designed to give participants a basic understanding of multiple trades within the construction industry which could lead to gaining further skills and qualifications. The stonework training is a creative taster course that offers skills on stonemasonry to design and build a piece of art from natural stone. Both the construction and stonework training programmes will be workshop and study based that will help you to gain: • Construction site requirements • Basic health and safety

• Basic understanding on various trades e.g. carpentry, bricklaying, joinery and painting and decoration etc.
• Confidence in carrying out own DIY • Creativity and developing fine arts

SEWING AND GARMENT MAKING Have you been inspired by the latest trend in home sewing, but are not sure where to start? Then this is the sewing course for you. Working in small groups, of no more than 10, you’ll learn everything you need to be able to make clothes (tops, skirts, dresses or trousers) from a bought pattern.

SECTOR BASED PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING Security, Childcare, Hospitality and Retail
Are you out of work, education or training and would like to get started in any of the above job sectors? We will give you the chance to take part in the selected training course with help from inspirational experts to learn within a group while developing your skills and confidence. The training will include:
• The basics of the selected trade
• Benefit from one-to-one support
• Help you think about what you’d like to do after the course finishes • Attendance/ accredited certificates and potentially a qualification. • Support to get a work experience

RESIDENT INVOLVEMENT TRAINING ESTATE MANAGEMENT/ RESIDENT INSPECTORS To train residents to be able to carry out full inspections to include, Health &Safety, repairs cleaning and also to report anti-social behaviour and any other issues seen to Estate Services standards.
Swan’s neighbourhood housing department will provide an overview of their role and responsibilities, as well as covering the role of the Local Authority and highways department in managing your estates. We will discuss practical ways that you can get involved in the management and monitoring of standards on your estates.

CUSTOMER INSIGHT, UNDERSTANDING PERFORMANCE INFORMATION & COMPLAINTS STANDARD We want to give residents an understanding of how performance and customer insight can be used to scrutinise services, and Swan’s complaints policy and procedure.
The course will cover the basics of performance management in housing and we will learn what we consider to be a complaint; how we handle these and the types we receive. We will discuss learning from complaints and the role of the housing ombudsman. We will also discuss how residents can become involved in the decision making process regarding hearing appeals and agreeing compensation or recommending alternative solutions to close complaints to our residents satisfaction.

EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY TRAINING The purpose of this course is to give residents an understanding of: • Swan’s approach to equality and diversity;

• Equalities legislation and national policy – The basic legislative and regulatory requirements; • Rights and responsibilities of Swan and Axis employees; and
• How we can all work together to promote equality, community cohesion and social, financial and digital inclusion.

REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE We want to give residents an understanding of the Repairs Standard and clearly identify who is responsible for what repairs in the home, and the time scales we adhere to. As listed in the tenant handbook, we will identify whose responsibility it is to carry out certain repairs to homes, and how Swan can assist.
We will also talk about our partnering contract with Axis, how this is monitored and how residents can get involved.

RESIDENT INVOLVEMENT TRAINING RESIDENT INVOLVEMENT We are committed to actively involving residents to assist their communities to develop and maximise their potential. We provide many opportunities for consultation and involvement. These range from formal arrangements set out in our governance structure (the framework for the way we run) to less formal events like information days, focus groups and service improvement reviews.
We can also give advice on the steps to take with getting your community involved and setting up a Residents Association and how we can support you with established groups. This training will cover:
