Welcome, Lulu Blue, and congratulations on making the front cover for this month’s Spellbound Magazine, the monthly edition. Thank you for taking the time to answer our behind-the-cover questions. To start, can you introduce yourself to the Spellbound Fairytale and Fantasy readers? Hi, my name is Lulu Blue. I was born in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales in Australia. However, I have lived in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory for the past 10 years. How did you get involved with modelling, and what do you love most about being a model? I was very shy and introverted during high school and in those days would never have dreamed of being in front of a camera. I first dabbled in modelling during 2011. I had my first office job out of high school and my colleague asked me if I would model some clothing for a charity fashion show. That was my first taste of the industry. I enjoy modelling as it allows me to utilise myself as a canvas for self-expression. It’s a creative outlet for me. What fuels your imagination and provides you with inspiration? I constantly feel inspired by my real-world context. Dialogue and interaction with other people inspire me, visual stimulus inspires me, sometimes even sporadic dreams inspire me. I was inspired to go forward with this particular theme when I saw the dress featured in the photoshoot on Etsy. It is by an artist and seamstress named Artemisia who no longer operates and that makes this dress all the more unique as it is one of a kind and will never be recreated. At the time, Artemisia made a living from making dresses as wearable art installations. This dress also has a lot of sentimental value as it contributed to me winning the Miss Ink Australia pageant in 2017. It is permanently displayed on a mannequin in my loungeroom. Let us into a secret, what is a beauty trick you do before a photoshoot? The one thing I can’t go without is my mattifying powder. I use one by a brand called Lily Lolo, which has a great range of natural cosmetics. It’s handy before the shoot, during and even afterwards to keep my complexion from getting too shiny. What led you to this genre, and who do you admire within the industry? Research led me to this genre. I admire people who I work closely with in the industry, such as my photographer David Turnbull and my makeup artist Kate Sergi because they are forces of unrelenting creativity. What has been your favourite shoot that you have done and why? I did an underwater shoot with David recently where he forgot his goggles and the chlorine in the pool messed with his vision. However, he didn’t let me know he was shooting blind and ‘following the blob’ until halfway through the photoshoot. I found this hilarious, particularly because we somehow got some amazing shots out of that session. It just goes to show how talented David is when he can still capture beauty and not be able to see. It’s like he has a sixth sense for it. What is the inspiration behind the Forest Daemon shoot and theme, is there a story behind the concept? The inspiration behind the Forest Daemon shoot and theme is the impeccable beauty of mother nature. For the Forest Daemon photoshoot, David and I agreed that it would look better if I went barefoot. I remember having to carefully step through the grass in the forest as there were prickly plants everywhere. I also recall that we found a large flat rock which reminded me of a sacrificial alter and we decided that would be the focal point for some of the posing. I remember there was a reasonable chance of rain on the day and at one point we did feel a few raindrops, but thankfully it subsided. There were also many butterflies fliting around us which unfortunately we were not able to capture photographically. You say that you had been sitting on the concept of the Forest Daemon for 3 years, what took the time for this to become a reality, did it take lots of development? It took 3 years to launch this concept because I kept asking the wrong creative people to be involved. I set up plans with various photographers and makeup artists who I thought were professionals, but they ended up being quite the opposite. Frankly they were flaky and inefficient with their time. It happened so often that I became discouraged and put this concept on the shelf for a number of years. I was also trying to execute this concept when Covid-19 first started to manifest and that had a considerable impact too. Your name Lulu Blue, features the colour, which we can see also matches your hair, does the colour blue have a significant meaning to you? My hair has been this colour for over 7 years. I have positive associations with it because it has brought me a lot of opportunities and an unbelievable amount of praise from random members of the public. We can see that as well as modelling you are also an educator and a freelance writer; can you tell us more about these professions? I have been a relief teacher for the past 5 years and have no intention of stopping anytime soon. I get a lot of job satisfaction and children say the darndest things. I am an internationally published freelance writer, but that has taken a backseat recently as there is a greater need for educators at the moment. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future? My next project is going to be a prohibition style photoshoot with a male model. It should be interesting as I’ve never shared the limelight with a model of the opposite gender before. My future goals are striving to get as many shoots published as possible and making it onto a few more covers would be nice too. Thank you for answering our behind-the-cover questions, Lulu. We are sure the readers of Spellbound will love learning more about you and the story behind the cover.

Celebrity Tarot Reader and Author Cardsy B Welcome, Cardsy B, and thank you for joining us for this interview feature of this month’s Spellbound Monthly Issue. Can you please introduce yourself to our readers, describing a little bit about yourself and your journey as an intuitive tarot reader and energy alchemist? My full name is Rebecca Szymczak—I’m also known as Cardsy B. I’m a writer, intuitive tarot reader, and healing catalyst. My work has been featured in Yahoo Finance, NBC, Shape, Bustle, and The Zoe Report. I transitioned out of my fashion career to dive deeper into my intuitive gifts after experiencing a dark night of the soul. I now use tarot to guide clients, including celebrities, C-suite executives, artists, and entrepreneurs, to their own inner knowing and healing abilities. In addition to creating my signature tarot deck, Badass Bitches Tarot, I’m also the host of the Hex and the City podcast and the author of The Saturn Diaries: A Modern Day Grimoire. You say that from a young age you were drawn to the metaphysical and received information in unconventional ways, are you able to share any examples of this? I was always drawn to the supernatural world. I used to save my allowance to buy books on occult, astrology as well as Tarot decks when I was in elementary school. As a kid I began to teach myself how to read Tarot by playing the Tarot version of card games like ‘WAR’ and ‘Go Fish’ by justifying why certain cards would win against others. You used to work in the fashion industry, could you explain how you transitioned into the field of Tarot reading? Before I launched my career in the metaphysical world as a tarot reader and author, I built my career in the fashion industry. I designed for brands like NIKE, DKNY, and served as the Global VP of Design and Creative Director of Playboy and also created my own line of luxury lingerie, BEX nyc. I began to lose the career success and financial security I’d obtained in an intense “dark night of the soul” that hit with my Saturn Return, an astrological milestone which occurs every 27-31 years when Saturn comes back to the same constellation it was when we were born. I lost everything that made me who I believed myself to be at that point in time. My best friend passed away from HIV related complications, I was pushed out of my big Global VP job, my marriage collapsed, and after a failed attempt at running my own line I also lost all of my money. This exposed deep seated struggles I had with addiction and depression that previously masked when everything in my career and marriage seemed to be going well. As a result I sought healing, and the first successful tool on my healing journey was my childhood love of Tarot. This led me to offer readings for friends and former colleagues, eventually create my own Bad@ss B*tches Tarot deck, create the Hex and The City podcast, and write my first book, The Saturn Diaries: A Modern Day Grimoire. What fuels your passion and what do you love most about working within this profession? I love getting to work with people from cross the globe from all walks of life in order to help clients and readers of The Saturn Diaries tap more deeply into their own intuition in fun, sexy and magical ways. What inspired you to create the badass bitches Tarot Cards and what was your inspiration for each of the designs you illustrated? Until 2018 I read with the same Tarot deck I had since I was a child. I would buy other Tarot decks but they never quite resonated. I was on a trip to Amsterdam with my best friend at one of my favorite metaphysical shops looking for a deck of all empowered women and I couldn’t find one. My best friend said ‘Why don’t you just create your own deck since you can illustrate from your fashion career?’ A few months later I took her suggestion and ran with it. I decided to create a deck where all 78 cards are inspired by iconic empowered women, ie Justice is inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsberg and the Hierophant is inspired by Oprah. How do you feel that Tarot readings may help people? I feel that Tarot readings help people trust their own inner guidance system. Many of my clients say they were feeling what I shared from the cards even though they didn’t admit it outloud to me or even to themselves. I also find Tarot helps people acknowledge and connect with the signs and synchronicities that the universe is always giving us.

What prompted you to create your podcast Hex and the City? I wanted to be able to share weekly energy updates as well as tips for working with Tarot and spellcraft. I also created a community called The Spellcraft Society with weekly meetings that share energy updates, tarot readings, spells and elixirs for the current astrological time we are moving through each week. Tell us about your book The Saturn Diaries, do you have a brief overview and what was your inspiration for creating the book? The Saturn Diaries is half memoir and half spellbook: Fashion bitch turned wellness witch, Cardsy B, shares her irresistibly witty and raw account of seemingly having, then losing, it all to redirect inward to find healing and purpose in unlocking her intuition. Before becoming Cardsy B, Rebecca Szymczak was a rebellious outcast from rural Pennsylvania, determined to live the quintessential Manhattan life, landing high-level fashion jobs, celebrity friends, and even her own lingerie line along the way. But by age thirty-one, an astrological transit-known as Saturn’s Return-gate-crashed her life, stripping away her self-identity and exposing a battle with depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, just beneath the glossy surface. As she began to rebuild her life, Cardsy revisited her childhood hobby of pulling tarot cards. In doing so, she reconnected with her intuition in powerful and often unexpected ways. The Saturn Diaries is the compelling record of that journey, involving everything, from a homemade Oprah-ator phone created to dial the universe to a solo trek through the Costa Rican Jungle to participate in an Ayahuasca ceremony. Part memoir and part spellbook, each chapter features a spell, elixir, or ritual. The Saturn Diaries - intensely moving and often hilarious - chronicles discovery and remembrance. It reveals the magic that occurs when you a cknowledge the seeker within and begin listening to your own inner guidance system. You created your own tarot cards and podcast and now published your own book, do you have any other upcoming ventures? I am currently hosting my weekly community, The Spellcraft Society, continuing to offer one on one readings and touring with The Saturn Diaries across the US, with stops in Canada and EU. I have started a second book, The Venus Codes that I plan to complete in 2024. Do you have any other exclusives or information you would like to share with us? I have a special 20% code for my website, including readings with me, for all Spellbound Magazine readers: Use code: SPELLBOUNDVIP at www.cardsyb.com at checkout :) Thank you for answering our interview questions, Cardsy B.
