Sally Morris Editor-in-chief Welcome to the Spellbound Fantasy Realms October Issue! It’s great to have you here in the full swing of the autumn season, and the month of Halloween! As October unfolds, the enchantment of fairy tales and fantasy realms intensifies, weaving an even more intricate tapestry of magic and mystery. The month brings with it a palpable sense of otherworldliness, as the veil between our world and the realms of imagination seems to grow thinner. The lengthening shadows and earlier twilights create the perfect canvas for tales of witches, goblins, and otherworldly creatures to come to life. October’s association with Halloween adds an extra layer of mystique to fairy tales and fantasy stories. This is a time when the ordinary world playfully embraces the extraordinary, with costumes and decorations transforming everyday spaces into magical realms. The forests, now ablaze with fiery autumn colours, become even more enticing settings for fantastical adventures. Every rustling leaf could be a fairy taking flight, every gnarled tree trunk a potential doorway to another world. The harvest moon, hanging low and large in the October sky, casts an ethereal glow that seems to illuminate hidden pathways to magical kingdoms. This is also a perfect time for storytelling traditions that blur the line between reality and fantasy. Ghost stories and urban legends take on new life, their narratives intertwining with the misty October evenings. The tradition of telling spooky tales around a campfire or during a sleepover reaches its peak, fostering a communal experience of shared imagination and wonder. For writers and readers alike, October provides rich inspiration for fantasy realms. The month’s atmosphere naturally lends itself to world-building, whether it’s crafting a witch’s cottage deep in an enchanted forest or imagining a grand ball in a fairy tale castle. The unique blend of beauty and eeriness that October brings can inspire new twists on classic fairy tales or entirely original fantasy narratives.
