Free talks, film and music at YMCA, Kingsway, Swansea. Fri 13 Jan 1pm Art’s Birthday. Celebrate Art’s Birthday as we present the UK film premiere of Old Age Should Burn And Rave At Close Of Day by Matt Hulse with Elizabeth Lawrence. Fri 27 Jan 1pm Artist Talk: Vetch Veg. Artist Owen Griffiths will discuss his latest project, Vetch Veg, where he has turned the former Swansea City ground into a community allotment. Fri 10 Feb 1pm Artist Talk: Welsh Artist of the Year 2011. Paul Emmanuel, discusses his work including his unique ‘painted fleeces’, and his exchange to China, organised by the Glynn Vivian. Sat 25 Feb 3.30pm Free:30 Sessions Present: Thistledown. Swansea band Thistledown bring their unique brand of alternative modern folk to the first 2012 Free:30 Session. Sat 10 Mar 2pm Film Bunker Presents: Between Two Rivers. New documentary feature film by Jacob Cartwright and Nick Jordan. The film centres on Cairo, Illinois, a historic rivertown with a dark and troubled past. Fri 30 Mar 1pm Glynn Vivian Commissions: Anthony Shapland film. Anthony Shapland will debut his interpretation of the Glynn Vivian, focusing on the unseen spaces of the gallery.

Saturday Morning Art Club Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Sat 7 & 14 Jan 10.30am – 12.30pm Age 4-6 Discovery Room, Swansea Central Library With artist Arwen Roberts. Experiment with colours and texture using paper collage to produce your imaginative creations. Sat 11 & 18 Feb 10.30am – 12.30pm Age 7-10 YMCA 1st Floor Studios, Oxford Street With artist Lucy Lilley. Create soft toys and puppets and make beautiful wall hangings using felts, fabrics, rags and textiles. Sat 10 & 17 Mar 10.30am – 12.30pm Age 11-14 YMCA 1st Floor Studios, Oxford Street With artist Tracy Harris. Are you a budding actor or scriptwriter? Use music, objects and images to write and perform an original piece of theatre.

Saturday Afternoon Adult Classes Create something wonderful in a supportive environment, learn new skills and make new friends too. Complete beginners welcome, open to anyone aged 16+. Workshops run from 1.30pm – 3.30pm. 55+ Join our Wednesday afternoon art class and try your hand at a range of techniques. Open to anyone aged over 55, no experience necessary, beginners welcome. For more information and to book, call 01792 516900. Workshops run from 1pm – 4pm at YMCA, Kingsway.

Wed 11, 18 & 25 Jan The Four Seasons – Relief Tiles With artist Sarah Tombs. The group will create their own plaster relief, cast from clay. Wed 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 Feb Sculpture Course With artist Jessica Callan. The group will explore sculptural techniques in clay and plaster.

Tues 14 Feb 11am – 4pm Age 7-16 Metamorphosis With artist Sara Holden. Learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and create a sculpture to celebrate it, using natural materials such as silk and cotton. Thurs 16 Feb 11am – 4pm Age 5-15 Something in the snow drift… With artist Louise Bird. Make a snowy textile sculpture that transforms into a figure then perform and parade! Fri 17 Feb 11am – 4pm Age 5-15 Shapeshifters With artist David Pitt. Using traditional tales and the creation of simple shadow puppets, explore themes of change in shape, form and light using your imagination. Children and adults will require a packed lunch for all day workshops. Children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
