Llyfr Cydymdeimlad Book of Condolence Ei Uchelder Brenhinol Dug Caeredin HRH The Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021

Louise Fleet, JP HM Lord-Lieutenant of West Glamorgan I was very saddened at the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh has been a magnificent and constant support to Her Majesty The Queen during the 69 years of her reign. Throughout his life, Prince Philip devoted himself to public service and to advancing many hundreds of causes and organisations. I am sure we will best remember him for the legacy he has left for young people, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme which he set up in 1956. Through taking part in this wonderful youth award scheme, millions of young people all over the world have been helped to achieve their potential and many more will continue to do so. His passing is an enormous loss to the country and we will remember his long life of public service and duty with respect, affection and gratitude. We send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and to the Royal Family Joanna Jenkins MBE JP DL High Sheriff of West Glamorgan 2021 / 2022 It is with great sadness that I learnt of the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh will long be remembered with great affection and respect for his work in support of The Queen following her Accession in 1952. He will also be particularly remembered for being Patron, President, or a member of over 750 organisations; and for founding the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme in 1956. Operating in more than 140 countries, the Award built upon four key elements of service, skills, physical recreation, and adventurous journey. It has offered encouragement and adventure to millions of young people who have gone on to develop self-reliance and optimism that much can be achieved at the same time as being enjoyed. Councillor Rob Stewart Leader of the City & County of Swansea My deepest sympathies go to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the sad news of the passing of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. His life was one of selfless service and duty to a nation in mourning.

Mrs Kate Cross: With heartfelt sympathy deepest condolences, thoughts and love to Her Majesty, the Queen at this very sad time. Words cannot express the love and gratitude I feel for our Royal family and how privileged we are to have them rule over us. I was very fortunate to meet both The Duke of Edinburgh and The Queen on a visit to the Cockle factory in Crofty, Gower, back in 1999 and it was with some nervousness that I realised, as the Duke and The Queen progressed up the line meeting and greeting the small crowd that had gathered to see them, that the Duke was going to stop to talk to me. He competently put me at my ease and made a memorable remark about how well we all looked because of the fact that we ate our cockles liberally sprinkled with vinegar. I always remember that visit with great fondness and have some lovely photographs. I also saw The Duke ride past with The Queen on her horse, Burmese, at the Silver Jubilee celebration of The Trooping of the Colour and was standing in The Mall with my grandparents. We were also there in London by Westminster bridge when the flotilla sailed past on that wet and miserable day for the Diamond Jubilee. But it was still an awesome event and I was so proud to be a part of it. The Duke of Edinburgh was a true gentleman, it is a very sad time. Deepest sympathies, thoughts and wishes. Sarah Mullen: I had the pleasure of waving at the Duke of Edinburgh as a small child in rural Scotland. We had been potato stamping in the local library and were covered in paint from head to toe as the Queen and the Duke drove past on their way to Balmoral - what must he have thought of our small, motley, paint-spattered band of librarians, mums, children and babies waiving uncertainly at the side of the otherwise deserted road! Despite our appearance the Queen and the Duke graciously smiled and waved at us as if we were in our Sunday best. Maria Thomas: Deepest sympathy to the Queen and the Royal family during this very sad time. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time. He was a well respected man and will be sorely missed. You should all be very proud of the legacy that will continue long into the future. elvira philippart: such a lose .lived a full life sad for those that remain Peter Price: I was devastated to hear of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip. A loyal companion of 73 years to the Queen, he clearly loved his family as much he did his countrymen and supported every single one of them, with stories of him even acting as a mechanic for his daughter-in-law Diana. The amount he did for young people in this country will never be understated, having had the opportunity to complete a Duke Of Edinburgh award I learned many skills thanks to his scheme. He touched so many people in this country. May he rest in peace Gwyn Davies (formerly City Archives and Swansea Library): My thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty the Queen on her great loss. I remember seeing the Duke of Edinburgh on several occasions, at the Brangwyn Hall for the University degrees, then again on visits to the Guildhall. I remember helping to put on a large display to mark a visit which traced the history of previous Royal visits. This exhibition was shown to the Duke of Edinburgh and HM The Queen in the George Hall, of Swansea Guildhall. It was later moved for public display in the Council foyer.
