INTRODUCTION Welcome to the 2017 Environmental Events Swansea booklet in its new A5 format. This year’s booklet provides details of well over 200 events taking place in and around Swansea from April to December. These include guided walks and cycle rides, a wide range of talks, workshops and training courses about wildlife and environmental issues, and lots of children’s activities in amazing natural settings. Most of the events are FREE or at low cost so everyone can get involved. Look out for the special festivals and major events, such as the Wales Nature Week and Bike Week in June, the Beach Sculpture Festival in July, the Gower Centennial Show and Gower Cycling Festival in August and the annual Green Fayre in November. For details of over 40 local organisations and projects, please refer to the Further Information section at the back of the booklet. Throughout the year, further information on activities and events will be posted on websites and social media. If you have relevant events that you wish to be included in the next edition or promoted online, please get in touch (contact details below). This booklet is produced by the City and County of Swansea’s Nature Conservation Team (contact details below) with funding from the Welsh Government Single Revenue Grant. Please note that information on events run by other organisations is published in good faith and the City and County of Swansea cannot be held responsible for inaccuracies.

Best Start Swansea In Swansea, there is a big campaign to give children the best start in life. Getting outside and exploring the natural environment from an early age helps children to learn and develop lots of important skills and better understand the world around them. It is also a great way to have fun and keep active and healthy. There are a number of regular children’s clubs in the area which enable children to interact with nature. For example, Seedlings is a weekly pre-school activity group run by Forest School SNPT; Cwm Clydach Kites and Dippers is a monthly RSPB Group for 8–18yr olds; and Gower Society Youth is a regular activity club for young people and their parents. There are also many one-off activities for children and families including the Beach Sculpture Festival sessions, the Llys Nini Trails, Seashore Safaris and BikeAbility’s Tots on Tyres.
