Here, at LLETS we can help you make an informed choice which will allow you to reach your true potential and satisfy career aspirations.
WELCOME
As part of the Education Inclusion section of the City & County of Swansea Education Directorate, we are making it our number one priority to ensure that individuals receive an excellent service. LLETS encompasses two services – namely Lifelong Learning and Employment Training. Lifelong Learning provides accessible learning opportunities in community based settings for post-16 adult learners. Employment Training provides vocational training via the Welsh Government Traineeship and Apprenticeship programmes. Employment Training supports over 2000 individuals per annum and works closely with over 400 local and national employers. HSBC, TATA Steel and Swansea Council’s Corporate Building Services and Liberty Stadium are just a few employers that work closely with us. We offer a number of training programmes which are tailored around a multitude of vocational areas. Why not try one of our Traineeships, Apprenticeships or work tasters. Whatever your requirements, we will do our utmost to assist you. If we cannot offer a certain course we will signpost you to another provider who can. So, wherever you are at the crossroads we will make sure you reach your required destination!

Traineeship What is a Traineeship? A Traineeship is for young people aged 16-17 in Wales; although some individuals aged 18 may be eligible who have left school or college. It is designed to give you the skills you need to progress into a job or further learning at a higher level such as an Apprenticeship or Further Education. All Traineeships are subject to a referral by Careers Wales. Where can it get you? A Traineeship will give you the support, skills and qualifications you need to progress into employment, an Apprenticeship or to go into learning at a higher level. Also, the learning development undertaken will help to impress potential employers. What will it involve? Traineeships have three different levels to make sure that you get the support and encouragement you need to progress: Engagement, Level 1 and Bridge to Employment. Engagement This is for you if you are not sure what you want to do for a career or if you have certain barriers which prevent you from immediately taking part in employment or other learning.
Level 1 If you know what career route you want to follow and are ready and able to undertake full-time learning then you can access this level directly. Level 1 could also include work placements, community projects and training with your provider while you do an NVQ or other qualifications in the subject you have chosen. Bridge To Employment If you are ready for full-time employment, have completed the Level 1 option and are still eligible for this programme, you can progress to the Bridge to Employment option. This will include level 2 training relevant to your chosen career.
TRAINEESHIP
It will prepare you for the world of work or full-time learning. It might include work placements, community projects, or training at the premises of your place of learning to help get you ready. It can also help when you have been offered a job which is dependant on a work trial or pre-employment period.
How many hours a week will I do? It depends on what type of training you do, but you will need to attend between 12 and 21 hours per week for the engagement strand, and up to 30 hours per week for the Level 1 and Bridge to Employment strands. However, part time learning is available to fit your needs. How much will I get paid? If you start on the Engagement option you will be paid an allowance of £30. Once you progress to other levels you should be paid a minimum of £50 a week, reduced for part-time attendance. You may be eligible to claim travel expenses over £5 a week. You may also be able to claim childcare costs and other support. If you require further information please contact LLETS on 01792 482680 or Careers Wales on 01792 644444. Apprenticeship What is an Apprenticeship? An Apprenticeship is a practical way of gaining nationally recognised qualifications and job related skills, whilst working in a real life work environment. Off the job training required is gained through day release with an appropriate training provider. Apprenticeships are available to those looking for employment and for those already in employment who wish to further their careers.
APPRENTICESHIPS
There are three levels of Apprenticeships available for those aged 16 and over. All apprentices work towards a recognised Welsh Apprenticeship framework. 1. Foundation Apprenticeships (FA) (equivalent to five good GCSE passes) Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as an NVQ Level 2, Essential Skills Wales and, in some cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification such as a BTEC. These provide the skills apprentices need for their chosen career and allow entry to an Apprenticeship. 2. Apprenticeship (A) (equivalent to two A-level passes) Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 3, Essential Skills Wales and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge based certificate such as a BTEC. To start this programme, apprentices should ideally have five GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed a Foundation Apprenticeship. 3. Higher Apprenticeships (HA) Higher Apprenticeships work towards work-based learning qualifications such as NVQ Level 4 or 5 Essential Skills Wales and, in some cases, a knowledge-based qualification such as a Foundation degree. Funding The Lifelong Learning & Employment Training Service (LLETS) is an approved Training Provider and is able to access funding via the Welsh Government and European Social Fund to support the cost of training and assessing of Apprenticeships in Wales. As an apprentice you would not be expected to pay for any of the learning which forms part of the Apprenticeship framework. Benefits to Businesses With our current economic climate proving difficult, well trained and effective workforces are essential in order for businesses to flourish. At LLETS we have the expertise and experience to deliver high quality training and to supply businesses with the staff they need. Apprenticeships provide employees with hands-on training , national qualifications and broader transferrable essential skills (e.g Communication, ICT, Application of Number, Problem solving, etc). Apprenticeships are flexible and designed by Industry Sectors to meet the needs of Employers and training programmes are adaptable to meet specific business needs.

Workways The prospect of finding a new job can be extremely daunting as there is a fierce level of competition for the small number of job opportunities available today. This struggle is added to for many who are lacking in confidence, direction and the skills they feel are necessary to enter the workplace. The Workways team have proved that with the right kind of support, it is possible for people to overcome these barriers and successfully make the transition back into employment. The Workways Project is funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government and offers support by helping people to increase their confidence and employability skills and by providing a gateway to opportunities such as training, volunteering, work related experience and employment. If you are of working age, in receipt of certain benefits, working less than 16 hours a week or not claiming benefits at all, the Workways team may be able to help you too.
WORKWAYS
Please telephone 01792 637112 for more information or to make an appointment with one of the advisors. This project has been made possible by the EU’s Convergence European Social Fund through the Welsh Government and is led by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, in partnership with the other Local Authorities.
