Good News ‘Sound Bites’!
Management Caroline Richards Caroline completed her Management Level 3 NVQ with LLETS in September 2012. At the time, she was a Team Leader at the Fraud Division in HSBC. After completing her NVQ, Caroline attended an interview for the position of Fraud Team Manager. The interview went very well, and Caroline was successful in getting the job. Says Caroline, ‘Completing the Management qualification definitely helped me get the Team Manager position, I was asked questions about Risk Management and Health and Safety Issues, topics that were prevalent throughout my course. ‘I strongly recommend the course to anyone looking to progress in their career. My tutor, Anna Matthews, was very supportive, and I am now hoping to progress to the Level 5 Qualification!’. Natalie Hudson Natalie Hudson recently became the first learner at the Lifelong Learning & Employment Training Service (LLETS) to achieve the full Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship Framework in Management. She first began a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Business Administration at LLETS, and quickly progressed onto the new Higher Apprenticeship in Management. Natalie said that, ‘I intended to boost my career prospects, and the Management NVQ was easy to fit around work. I could work at my own pace and have regular meetings with my assessor who was very encouraging!’

Children’s Care, Learning and Development Rebecca Parkhouse Rebecca is currently enrolled on the A – Children’s Care, Learning & Development Level 3 course. She is also employed at Seaview Flying Start. ‘I previously did a History Degree, so this is completely different. The course works really well with the practical side of working life. My assessor has been brilliant, she provides great support and makes regular visits to my work place!’. Kellie Rowe ‘My work placement is at Blaenymaes Primary School. The Level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development is great. The support and encouragement from my assessor has been excellent, and I’ve been introduced to important policies such as health and safety that I had no prior knowledge of.’.
Health and Social Care Debbie Killa Debbie is the Day Services Manager at two Dementia Services within the City and County of Swansea. She is currently enrolled on the Level 5 - Flexible Learning – Health and Social Care course. ‘This course has been very interesting and beneficial for my professional development. The assignments have brought to my attention the appropriate policies, procedures and standards that we need to adhere to as Care Standards Inspectorates of Wales (CSIW). The support from LLETS staff has been fantastic, my assessor is always there if I need her!’.
Business Administration Tony Hughes Tony is on a Level 1 Business Administration Traineeship Programme, and also on a work placement in the LLETS ICT Lab. ‘I am really enjoying my Traineeship. My assessor and all the staff at the LLETS ICT Lab have been really helpful and supportive since I started. It’s such a great placement that I don’t want to leave!’.

Kirsty Tomkins Kirsty is the Learner Service Business and Administration Officer at LLETS. She is also currently studying for her Level 2 FA – Business Administration. ‘The FA – Business Admin has been very rewarding so far. I am able to fit my studies around being in full time employment. I am also really looking forward to going onto the Level 3 in Business Administration and progressing in my career at LLETS!’. Tracy Simons Tracey is the Vocational Skills Business and Administration Officer at LLETS. She is also currently studying for her Level 3 A – Business Administration. ‘The Level 3 Programme fits in very well with my day to day work activities. It has helped me focus more on my duties, and given me an insight into the organisation of auditing methods. I have also received excellent support from both my ELO and my Assessor. They have both been very flexible in their approach to my studies!’.
Horticulture, Land Based Skills & Environmental Conservation Cy Lear Cy Lear is currently attending the FA Diploma – Work Based Environmental Conservation course, and he is also attending a work placement at Conifers from Hell in Birchgrove. ‘I am having great support from the staff at LLETS, and the Level 2 Diploma fits in really well with my work placement. I have also completed a chainsaw handling course paid for by myself, but organised by LLETS that has been very beneficial to my progress.’. Jason White Jason is on the Traineeship Practical Horticulture Skills Programme. ‘This programme is keeping me very focussed. I am looking forward to completing the Level 1. I am so glad that I decided to do this course, because it’s what I wanted to do from the start!’.

Hospitality and Catering “Having my training through LLETS has definitely helped me in my job as a mobile cook. I’ve found that my supervisor sends me to schools where there are issues, and now I am able to resolve these with my new cookery skills and ideas. Customer Service and Retail ‘I have received great support from both my Assessor and my ELO. They are always on hand if I’ve got any problems, or I need guidance. Hairdressing ‘I have recently completed my Level 2 in Hairdressing within 18 months, and really enjoyed the course. I personally feel that my confidence has grown since progressing from a Junior to Junior Stylist at my Salon placement. I had great support from my tutor and the other members of staff at the LLETS Hairdressing team. I am now looking forward to starting the Level 3 course in April!’. I was so pleased with the support I received, that I decided to continue with my Levels 2 and 3 in Hairdressing. I enjoyed my time at LLETS. The tutors, assessors and staff were always very helpful.
